Holy shit I didn't even consider that, this could legitimately become a standard for pickup reviews and tone chasers who want to "optimize" their tone. There's no better way to do it currently other than switching pickups (hassle) or having more than 1 of the same guitar with different pickups (expensive hassle); even if this guitar only sounded "okay," it would serve as a unique tool to A/B test different pickups in different configurations. I really hope we see more stuff like this, maybe wooden modules? Who knows

The sixties was the lead guitar era. Dan Armstrong had clear plastic guitars with changeable pickups.
Jazz musicians used the basses. If more guitar players were playing loud and using feedback,
having a guitar with more acoustic action and magnetic resonance would be what's out there now.
I would think of that as taking Jimi Hendrix into the pre-amp and master amp (1977) and digital era.

I think your spot on. Key is that it's really easy to do and only takes seconds. Plus most people like "normal" looking/ regular guitars not some weird material made to look futuristic. In the past when making innovative guitars the manufacturers have made these sort of futuristic guitars and it's just not what the people want. So this is dead set easy & quick to use, looks fantastic, a quality instrument without being super expensive and its like owning a bunch of guitars all at once. It ticks every box so i agree this will sell like hotcakes then everyone will jump on board and if the customers enjoy it as much as Phillip did, then it WILL take over the market.... Cheers.

When you switch out the pickups, it kind of sounds like when your reloading a weapon.
What's really interesting that you said how changing pickups you play differently because the sound and what we perceive is different so we play different. I find this is the case with me too when I go from one guitar to another with different pickups.

I think sometimes we're not aware of how much we are listening to our sound and making little adjustments to our playing to get it to sound how we want. I mean if you think about it it makes sense but we often don't think about it.
I remember a while back I practiced a riff unplugged for a little while, then when I turned on the amp I noticed a bunch of stuff in my playing that I needed to clean up because it sounds different. I mean that's an extreme example but it's the same principle.

Absolutely, without a doubt, by far THE best execution of a guitar with modular pickups I have ever seen. The deal breaker for me is the slim neck. I've had gorgeous Strats, 335 style, etc., guitars I cannot bond with due to the skinny neck, and sold. Give me a chunky to fat neck option and I'll start saving for this today. This is perfect One-Guitar-That-Does-It-All for me, and I'd be an early adopter but for that slim neck.

Active pickups were a game changer for me at first. They are great but i kinda went back to more traditional paf style pu's. They both have their time and place though. Totally know what you mean how it changes the way you play! Rock on!

It's a cool idea, and would be perfect for many, but I prefer that instruments that sound different also look and feel different, with different scale lengths and construction and all, because it all adds up to what makes a particular instrument do what it does the way that it does it. Super cool, though, I hope they sell a million of them!

I can hear the tonewood guys already.... But man, gotta admit this is a tremendous idea and what looks like extremely well-thought out execution. Game changer? And now, obviously, we know how Phil is going to do his every pickup test series :D

I am definitely buying one of these guitars. But I am waiting on Thoman to release their version. As soon as a Harley Benton version exist, I am definitely getting one.

A music store in Lincoln, NE had something like this, in 1984, to demo varioius pickups. But it looked more like the original Les Paul "LOG". different pickupswere mounted on wooden blocks that could be mounted from the rear, just like this guitar but with much less "finess".
