Kalij pheasant | Sattal | Uttarakhand | May 2024

The kalij pheasant is closely related to the silver pheasant, and the two are known to hybridize. There are nine recognized subspecies of the kalij pheasant found across the forests of the Himalayas and parts of southeast Asia. While females are largely brownish across subspecies, males are fairly variable.
