I sell at a cafe by me and I have had so much success. They take 15% and they will fix my display daily and I restock every 2 weeks or so. which can be so stressful on me but I am so blessed. I got really lucky, I crocheted at this cafe a couple times a week and the owner had approached me on selling. I have been here for a over a year. Also I did a local show during the summer and people were like OMG you sell at the cafe, omg I love your stuff. It felt amazing to be so well know for having great quality.
I was approached at a market by the owner of a consignment shop that wanted my items in store. It's been so great for my business for people to come across my work out and about and reach new people. There is a small weekly fee but I keep 100% of my sales. I can also use the shop as a pick up point for local orders. I would love to have items else where but everywhere else feels like a rough deal now 😂. Baby and kids sewing in Auckland, New Zealand for context ❤
I sell in a shop on consignment. I did a HUGE stock and brought them bins of inventory to put out as needed and it’s been an extra few hundred a month for me while I’m not doing shows. I haven’t had to restock in 2 months. But I’m going in at the end of this week to restock with a bunch of stuff for Christmas 😁
This is how I started out three years ago. First at a local gift shop specifically for small business crafters, then I was invited to do a three month rotation at a wine bar with “Etsy shelves”, lastly to a small business book store. I continue to sell at the gift shop and in late October did my first craft market that was pretty successful (in my eyes) thanks in part to Camryn and her tips and lots of support from family, friends and neighbors. Oh by the way I’m 67 years young.
I love your videos. ❤ It would be super HELPFUL if you could make a video on how you track your inventory on Square!? Im struggling with this organization part of my crochet business.
Thanks so much for this Camryn. Another brilliant and helpful video🥰. I do sell at a local gift shop and they charge the lowest consignment fee of any shops here “only” 25% Like you’ve said I have to put my prices up when I sell there or its just too big a hit on my profit margin. It’s been fun though and I have sold there really well. Plus it helps to create more brand awareness as not all my target customer market goes to fayres/craft markets.
I'm in Metro Vancouver, BC Canada & consignment is typically 60/40. We also have stores that charge "rental" & makers keep 100% of sales. They're around $400CAD/month; some art in big malls. You need to commit to 3 months & then it's month-to-month after that. There's a waitlist. I'm trying to decide whether it will be worth it.
Hi Camryn! Great video!! One question, when you sell something that isn’t your pattern (like the bobble trees) whether at a consignment shop, online or at a market, do you say where the pattern can be purchased?
I sell in two store locations for consignment. It’s been about two years. Here in Massachusetts, most places are a 60/40 split. I did have to turn down a recent offer for another store because they wanted 50/50 and it’s just not a fit for my crochet.
Super helpful video. I was concerned to do higher prices in a shop. I'm okay that the store take a % but a monthly rent if i make no sell it's not possible for me. How to know if it is still worth it to try?
I’ve never seen anyone actually in those stores. Unpleasant ‘salesperson’ glaring that you are taking them away from their cell phone scrolling by actually being a customer in the empty store isn’t fun either.
I was chosen by a shop that is opening in December to put my items in to sell. I had no problem with pricing, however I brought up concerns in regard to inventory. She stated in the agreement that if my item didn’t have a tag that she would try to call me and if I didn’t answer she would come up with a price and sell it. I said I would like the agreement to state that I will provide inventory info with prices so she could look it up easy if for some reason there is no tag. All I got was “I wont negotiate the contract, maybe you’re not a good fit” I was like woah, I just asked questions and stated an easy solution to something I was concerned about. Now she won’t meet with me to talk and I feel like I ruined my chance. Is this normal?
I would be interested to know if Sellers ever pay someone else to make products for them if the demand gets to high? That's something I would be interested in working out with someone but not sure it actually happens 😂
I'd be curious to hear if anyone has had success negotiating consignment percentages to be lower than initially offered by the store or if these rates are pretty set.
My local consignor won’t have me because ONE other woman there does crochet plushies. I tried bringing items like Scrunchies and jewelry but those items didn’t sell. The few plushies I was allowed to bring were the only thing that sold. Crazy to me
What about selling wholesale? Anybody else do that? I’ve sold my coffee cup cozies at local coffee shops and was able to sellout there. I did that a few years ago before the pandemic.
Lovely informative video Camryn 🩷 please do one about yarn companies offering you free yarn to try out and talk about on social media. Should you expect payment?

Omg, what an amazing journey! 🥰💖 Thank you for sharing!
I would love to see a video on how you would set up your area or your booth in a consignment shop! Just an idea. 😊
Me too.
Omg this video came just in time. I have been contemplating doing this vs craft fairs.
Yay, glad it helped! You got this! 💖✨
I just set up my 2 shelves at a shop and sold 2 leggy frogs while there. She only takes 15% so I'm happy 😊😊
Ahhh, that's awesome!! 🎉 And 15% is a great deal! 🥰💕
Thank you for sharing! 😊

Thanks for the love! 🥰🎀 More fun content is coming your way!

Camryn, can you make a sweatshirt that says: “it’s business baby”

Do you know how much you are going to charge for your course? I am so excited for it!

There’s definitely a weird vibe in ours for sure
Where I live in Arkansas I only have one consignment store, they want 50%, I said no!
Oh girl, I get it! Stick to craft shows or look for a shop that takes less. You got this, yarn babe! 💕✨
I have a question! How do you find shops and fairs

Oh girl, that’s so frustrating!! Keep looking-you’ll find the perfect spot! 💕✨ You got this!
@ thank you!! 💕

Oh and they take 30%

We love to have makers in our shop. And we keep our commissions low. Hope you see my email Camryn.
