    Hello and welcome back to Spain, where today we're exploring the undiscovered North!
    The Renfe S121 is a dual-gauge / dual-voltage 4-car EMU which is used on routes which diverge from the highspeed network giving amazing flexibility to quite literally, go anywhere. We're in the northwest corner of Spain today travelling through some of rural Galicia's stunning scenery in one of my favourite parts of the country, so let's go!
    Date of Filming: 27/5/21
    Camera: GoPro Hero 10 Black
    Operator: Renfe (Spanish Railways)
    Departure: Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain
    Arrival: A Coruña, Galicia, Spain
    Cost: Turista / Second Class - €16.65 (£33.70, $42.57)

    Spain is truly a place to spend a lifetime exploring. I spent 3 weeks in this region back in January 2022 and it was my 5th visit to Spain after having lived the for 1 year some years ago. In January 2022 I took this same train route but started further afield in Vigo. The train station at Vigo is under a brand new modern shopping mall that is like 4 stories. Is an engineering marvel, incredibly new and clean. For visiting and exploring Spain here's how I would do it.
    Live or study in Barcelona in your 20s -- explore all of Catalonia
    Move to Madrid in your 30s -- explore the central region and make money in the capital
    Buy a nice property with farm land in Galicia or Basque country in your late 30s early-40s
    Buy a beach house in your late 40s early 50s and enjoy the South of Spain in your golden years with frequent visits back home to the North.
    Amazing country!

    Hello,
    The reason why this happens is related to the security system installed in the infrastructure. In the case of the Iberian gauge lines and in all the trains today that use the Iberian gauge lines, the security system currently present is what we call ASFA, which only works at speeds of up to 200 km/h. To exceed that speed, trains and infrastructure need to be equipped with ERTMS Level 1 or 2.
    Greetings!

  • @oscarmanteca8879
    @oscarmanteca8879 10 місяців тому +10

    The speed limit is 200 kph because of signaling system ASFA, reaching 250kph is only available under RTMS system, from Ourense to Santiago (iberian gauge) has been deployed just one month ago.

    • @tucuuk
      @tucuuk 10 місяців тому +6

      The ERTMS installation between Vigo and A Coruña was completed in August but there is still a lot of work to do to enable trains to reach 250km/h. Mainly around object/obstacle detection and separation of HS trains from freight and conventional passenger trains.

    As part of the Spanish gov anti-inflation measures, you can buy a ticket for unlimited Media Distancia trips such as this one between any pair of stations for 20€ per natural quarter, which oftenly is more than a single ticket but cheaper than a return ticket.
    If you take more than 16 trains using that ticket within the quarter, then you will have your 20€ back. It's uncertain if this measure will be continued during 2024, but the government seems to be happy about the increased ridertship.
