Big fan from India. It feels weird that one of my favorite channels has uploaded a video about Czech train when I'm spending my last day in Prague here :D
Definitely try it during your next visit. Tickets are cheap and visiting small towns is a good way to really see what the life is like in the country. North Bohemia is actually one of the poorest regions in Czechia, but it has got its own underrated beauty.

This is one of the most scenic railways you can take in Czechia. A lot of things to see during the journey. I am glad, you liked it. Too bad that the old station building in Karlovy Vary had to be demolished. It had a unique neo-romanesque architecture, typical for the region, but was in a terrible shape of disrepair. The new Interjet trains are very good. They brought significant improvement in quality of service. There will be new units titled "ComfortJet", which will come with a control car, thus alleviating the biggest weakness of the sets. The city of Most, you mention in the video, was completely demolished between the 1960s and 1980s and basicaly moved two kilometers sideways to make place for lignite mine. That church you are showing in your video is one of the few buildings, which survived the city's demolition. Btw.: "Rychlík" is spelled in English something like: "Reekhleek". The Czech letter "Ch" is spelled more like "Kh" in English or "X" or "J" in Spanish.
The problem with this line is that it takes a detour via Ústí, so by car or bus from Vary to Prague is at least an hour faster, even though there are traffic jams around Prague.

These better trains are all owned by our national railway company, private companes send 40+ years old scrap and be glad that you don't have more companies, you can't imagine that mess in tickets. In the past, it was simple, you just bought ticket from A to B and you didn't care about anything, now it's pretty complicated. If you ever catch a non-InterJet train in the Czech Republic, I'd actually recommend to just purchase a 2nd class ticket. Most older carriages have extremely comfortable 2nd class seating in 6- or 8-person compartments! 2nd class tickets cost next to nothing - especially if you are a student with an ISIC card :) I've went on numerous trips throughout the Czech Republic (Ústí n.L. > Karlovy Vary > Mariánské Lázně > Plzeň, Plzeň - Praha, Praha - Hradec Králové, Praha - České Budějovice and of course Ústí n.L. > Praha). Most of these were during summer with a so called Summer Ticket (or Jízdenka na léto) which costs 695 Kč, or about 28 euros, for 1 whole week of unlimited railway travel on ČD trains!
I travelled back in time to last Saturday at about 9:35 AM CET to be the first person to comment here 14:49 I think this video was recorded near Christmas, because it's 4:40 PM and the sky is very dark. For example, here in my location in Spain (Which it's farther east than Galicia, but not farther east like Barcelona, and the Canary Islands are at one timezone to the left of Mainland Spain (One hour less than ours)), the earliest time when the sun sets is 5:45 PM near Christmas
Thanks for a very interesting video about a line I have never traveled on! I have only very limited experience of Czech trains (mostly the Railjets which run Prague-Brno-Vienna-Graz.) I found the comfort good. I particularly like the very detailed information screens. Regarding the Infopoint, on both Austrian and Czech Railjets it is where the conductor sits when not checking tickets. (ERT table 1110 shows five intermediate stops between Karlovy Vary and Usti Nad Leben, so there was no doubt a lot of ticket checking to do!)
Cheb reminded me of a nice local and internationaL train from Marktredwitz (D) to Hof (D) via Cheb. Suggestion? Sorry, I don't do twitter nor instagram.
Czech trains going to Germany and Austria are good, but trains to Poland are totaly killed now because of "some event" which is happening in the east. Sometimes you buy 1st class ticket and there is no 1st class wagon even when it should be there, or you have to move to other train for no reason on border and it's full of Ukrainians who very often don't even understand what seat reservation is. It's always important to find a train which has nothing to do with Ukraine, not going to Ukrainian border or something. I know our problems are ridiculous compared to war which they have, but you know, I want my seat and silence when I am going 8 hours in train. 😀 I was going to Vienna only once and it was pretty good train and Austrians are silent the same as Czechs in train, which I like. It's always hell when there are some adidas people who are playing some shit from their phones and you have to listen it for several hours.
In Latvia we are not currently impressed with new Škoda EMUs. Sure they only started operating last month, but they are braking a bit to often for a new train.
@@nagymarosznik if that was sarcasm, it was really subtle. "Heated depot" for 16x 109m long trains. Lol. Assuming hangar ceiling is 5m high that's 30k+ cubic metres of volume. With barely enough space to move between trains. That's 250 average flats and unlike said flats, such hangar would have multiple massive gates. Heating bill would be enormous. Not to mention it doesn't solve a problem of trains braking down. Or the fact that technical requirements specify ability to work at temps below -20°C. Haven't seen documents for this purchase, but when Riga orders new units for city public transport, they request for workability within range -40...+40.

I could highly recommend the secondary railway line from Karlovy Vary dolní nádraží (lower station) via the mountains to Johanngeorgenstadt (boder station from Czechia to Germany). This non-electrified railway line is very scenic rising up to 1,000 meters above sea level. It will be operated by CD untill Johanngeorgenstadt with a maximum speed of 60 km per hr. In Johanngeorgenstadt, you can change to the German regional trains to Zwickau (Saxony). Both railway lines are served by DMU's. Please note that there are two stations in Karlovy Vary: Karlovy Vary dolní nádraží (lower station) which is more close to downtown, serving the secondary railway lines to Johanngeorgenstadt and Marianske Lazne - and Karlovy Vary horní nádraží (upper station) which is more distant from downtown, serving the mainline to Chomutov - Usti nad labem as far as to Cheb.
Great video, beautifully designed train - but the routing via Usti is really strange as Karlovy Vary is just some 130kms from Prague if you were traveling by car or bus via D6 motorway. I guess that many people who need to travel the full length of that trip will rather use the RegioJet oder Flixbus services.
True, bus is much faster here but it's good that it's possible to go by such a nice train as well.. even if it's 200+ kms instead of 130 kms. Also not everyone is from Prague. From many places it's better to take the train en-route.
It just goes to show that trains in the Netherlands are glorified trams. Taking a bicycle is complicated and/or expensive, and I get the distinct impression that some passenger wish that children simply did not exist. It's nice to see that operators take care of cyclists and parents with children.
I see how this must be frustrating. That being said, given almost all dutchies arrive at the train station by bike, having 8 bike spaces on a train would be like having none at all 😀

@@NonstopEurotrip they were made to be as flexible as possible. You can easily add extra capacity. Usually it's not needed but on the busiest trains, especially during the K. Vary film festival I've seen them connect even 2-3 extra coaches. +The direction switch in Ústí is very fast thanks to the track alignment and using a different loco for the other part of the route
Great trip. Bit curious, why the route is going north first until Usti and then going south to Prague, rather than directly east? Or there isn't direct rail from Vary to Prague?
There are just some regional railways directly east that are 60 km/h or so. Technically it would be possible with a diesel locomotive. But it's certainly better to use the major routes with speeds around 120-160 km/h even if that means going extra kilometers.
When it's ČD (national company), it's mostly clean, when it's regiojet (private company) it's mostly dirty because they have no place where they could clean it, their base in Prague is now under reconstruction which is a problem.
4:04 That doesn't look like a very direct route; at around 80kmh average speed it's not too fast either. I suppose the train just follows river valleys the whole route?
ČD has some rented Vectrons such as this one but they already purchased their own that are on the way. The unit is ČD but the door says ÖBB because the door control is an ÖBB pattern inherited from their Railjets.
Well, there is, but it's a single track, non electrified line where only local trains at speeds of up to 60km/h💨💨 run. It would take you at least 4h30min (k. Vary, Bečov nad Teplou, Lubenec, Rakovník, Prague). Then you can also take the southern route through Cheb and Pilsen which takes just as long as this. (The new train schedules reduced the travel time of this northern route and increased the travel time of the southern route)
Might I suggest you invest in a European Rail Timetable? It has the answer to this sort of Question for every country in Europe. I am looking at the map of Czech Republic on page 490 of the Winter 23/24 edition. The timetable for the route taken is on page 491, table 1110.
Highest speed is between 120-160 km/h, but only on short sections of the track between Ústí and Prague. Trainsets with tilting cabins are allowed higher speeds. Maximum allowed speed for trainsets without tilting cabins is 120 km/h. Average speed is around 80-100 km/h. Some curvy sections can be even a bit slower.

Low-platform railcars have some practical limitations in long-distance, intercity settings (weaker construction and crash-test performance etc.). Alternatives in the form of ramps or lifts are seen as better alternative in these trainsets.
Did I just see this right? Family zone AWAY from the wheelchair accessible seats? If that's the case, PRAISE THE RAILS AND MAY ALL OTHER TRAIN OPERATORS LEARN FROM THIS!!! As a sound sensitive, autistic wheelchair user, traveling my train is always sensory hell because of families being put right by wheelchair area, and in my case, children are some of the worst sensory overload triggers because of how they move and the frequency of their voice regardless of them talking or screaming. I know I'm far from alone with being a wheelchair user and just wanting to travel in peace and quiet, though of course not all wheelchair users have the same issues that I do, just many do have issues with people (often kids) not leaving their wheelchair alone and whatnot. For me it causes pain if people bump into my chair or mess with the spokes of the wheels, for someone else who might have issues with spasticity, sudden bumps and vibration may set off spasms which can be both inconvenient, tiring and painful for the individual. So yeah, sounds like a dream train if family zone is well away from wheelchair accessible space, and would also be the first time I see it!
I appreciate you trying to pronounce the "Ř" and not saying "R" like so many other people!

Great idea!
I am very surprised they did not include a driving car after the success of the railjet sets.
Yes. Especially when the train goes in Ústí n.L. it's deadpan.
So am I to be honest! But I believe the next version of the sets will actually
@@NonstopEurotrip Yes, the new set of wagons is again with the end control car. They have already been produced and are now being tested.
Really enjoy travelling with you vicariously. Thanks for the great videos! Regards from Wales 🏴
Thanks for watching!
Much better than here in Germany.
Great trip. Bit curious, why the route is going north first until Usti and then going south to Prague, rather than directly east? Or there isn't direct rail from Vary to Prague?
There is no direct line between the cities, so you either have to go north via Ústí, or south via Plzeň
There are just some regional railways directly east that are 60 km/h or so. Technically it would be possible with a diesel locomotive. But it's certainly better to use the major routes with speeds around 120-160 km/h even if that means going extra kilometers.
Mainly to serve Ustí
Are train windows usually clean enough for good filming?
Depends on the weather tbh
When it's ČD (national company), it's mostly clean, when it's regiojet (private company) it's mostly dirty because they have no place where they could clean it, their base in Prague is now under reconstruction which is a problem.
Will you Go to Slovakia again please or to High Tatras tram or rack rail
Video already on the channel 😆
4:04 That doesn't look like a very direct route; at around 80kmh average speed it's not too fast either. I suppose the train just follows river valleys the whole route?
Pretty much yes, plus it's meant to connect Ustí to Prague and Cheb
The door on the train said ÖBB, and the main country for the Vectron loco was Germany. Is this really an ÖBB train rented out to CD?
ČD has some rented Vectrons such as this one but they already purchased their own that are on the way. The unit is ČD but the door says ÖBB because the door control is an ÖBB pattern inherited from their Railjets.
Interesting!
Is there a direct route between Karlovy Vary and Praha?
Yes, there's a southern route, but it's not as scenic 👍🏻
The timetable for the route taken is on page 491, table 1110.
yes. It's a Flixbus, runs every 30 minutes or so, is 2 hours faster and costs half as much.. :D
Can you please review the new class 701 swr train please
Not my thing, sorry!

@@Zuuu40 boring train and routes 😉
@@NonstopEurotrip 😂😂
Very European station - you can buy milk in Danish (Mælk)!
Oh yeah 🤣
did you say what the highest speed the train reached was? did I miss it, what was it?
Highest speed is between 120-160 km/h, but only on short sections of the track between Ústí and Prague. Trainsets with tilting cabins are allowed higher speeds. Maximum allowed speed for trainsets without tilting cabins is 120 km/h. Average speed is around 80-100 km/h. Some curvy sections can be even a bit slower.
160km/h, but set is capable of 200
Looking great and an astonishingly huge improvement compared to 1990s when the entire network was devastated by the 40 years of Russian looting,.
Yes, it's quite the transformation!

It's poor in this day and age that step free access for those with mobility issues is not available on some new modern European Trains.
Yes, but I guess they have their reasons. Platform ramps or lifts are available though

Ikr, how crazy is this?! Seriously though I'm glad they put a little more thought into the layout 🙏🏻
