    J. None left the group summer of 2021 and signed up for five years in the Navy. He is currently the new frontman for Navy Band Northwest. J. None just slips back in with ease to his old spot with the group when he is home to Florida on leave. He said when he left that it wouldn't be forever and that he would be back. VoicePlay is always up to a challenge when they are told that they can't do something, a Cappella. Then they do it. Geoff did all the fun stuff. The arrangement, Creative Design, and Costuming. The big surprise at the end with #VIOLAYNE! The cherry on top of the Sunday.

@@bobcieslinski Seeing as they haven't taken in Omar Cardona or DeeJay Young as permanent members I'm thinking that they expect J. None to return once his military stint if over. Anyway, DeeJay is doing wonderfully as part of the Hamilton cast. vioLayne strikes again! Layne also plays the violin in their video Warriors, joined by J. None. Always a joy to see.

Lois is 100% correct. I will add that he misses singing with Voiceplay on the record and before he went home for leave during Christmas he was super excited for this project although, he wouldnt tell me which song they were doing. Even as one of his friends, he makes me wait to see what he does until the rest of the world knows. He does have his own UA-cam channel and socials, you should check it out. The darkness and fullness of Geoff's subharmonics lately is incredible. Normally, subharmonics are also full of positive harmonics, so they have a buzz to them... Geoff has been working on darkening them, I believe, to remove some of those positive harmonics and it just sounds so amazing.

I vaguely remember the original, it was very popular. This is an amazing cover, the arrangement as spectacular as VoicePlay's always are, and the perfomance just wonderful. But then. they never fail to please. If no one has mentioned it, Eli is pronounced to rhyme with jelly, or belly. It's short for Eliezer, a Jewish name. From what I've heard, Layne originally sang the guitar solo but Geoff suggested trying the violin, and I think it was a good choice. As you say they build to a crescendo then bring us back down to a peaceful ending. Wonderful.

So delighted that you decided to react to this one! I think it's stunning, and - well - when vioLayne steps up I lose it. (if you haven't seen Warriors, he plays AND beatboxes throughout.) Appreciate your careful appraisal of the details! (If you have time, it'd be fun to hear your reaction to their newest, the Beach Boy classic "In My Room". It couldn't be more different than this one, it's like a warm hug of a song. I'm fascinated with their expressive range...)

Geoff did the arrangement including Layne's guitar solo toward the end where Metallica did it. As it got closer to doing the video he asked Layne if he could do it on the violin. WOWSA. It has been 3 years since Layne did Warriors and that long since we fans got to hear him again. He is so good with it. After I heard this, I went and listened to Metallica's version and was impressed with how true VP was to the original. I love this. A lot of us are really hoping that J None comes back when his stint with the US Navy is done - he's got a little more than 3 yrs. The Navy wanted him for that vocal talent. I was impressed with the power of the crescendo and its subsiding with a minor swell and to the final quiet end. I honestly never thought that Metallica could or would do something like this. I am so glad that VP did this. They are up to 1.24 mill at the moment.

Hey BJ! Is his was a killer song and arrangement from VP. Metallica’s version is awesome too but to take that and out it to voices and still retain the essence of thr song but be unique. Well I think only Voiceplay could pull that off and they sure did.

This cover is outstanding! When James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich wrote and composed this piece in 1992, who would have imagined that 30 years later, by the magic of the internet, artists from the whole world would appropriate the song to create their own version, thus making it universal. The great Elton John, who knows a bit about making universal love songs and ballads, said it's one of the most beautiful song ever written. I suppose you already know it but he made a cover of with Miley Cyrus.

J.None has three more years in the Navy-we are counting the days and hoping he comes back to Voiceplay when he’s done. Meanwhile, on his own channel, there’s a video of him singing the National Anthem-just straight, smooth, beautiful tone (so many singers feel the need to riff all over the place, but J-who can riff with the best of them-didn’t). It’s one of the best versions I’ve heard-worth checking out. I think the channel is @itsjnone.
If it’s been several days since the song dropped, you can usually scroll down in the comments and see one that has a bunch of blue time signatures. There are a couple people-usually RTSBass-who will actually tell you what the low notes are and how they were produced. It’s really interesting.
As I understand it the arrangement originally called for someone to handle the guitar solo in this piece vocally. Not long before recording date, Geoff asked Layne to see what he could do with his violin, and the rest is history. If they recorded any practice sessions, I’d love to hear the vocal version, but TBH, even if it was absolutely genius, I’m thinking the violin version has incredible impact-took the whole piece up another level. If Layne ever felt like doing violin music on his own channel I’d be there for it. He’s pretty amazing.
Anyway, I’m so glad you got to this. I was afraid you might not. Now for a complete change of pace you should hear the newest one, In My Room (Beach Boys).

As others have recommended, you really need to check out Warriors. Layne plays the violin throughout and J also jumps in for a little bit.
Not a big metal fan, and this is become one of my all-time favorites of theirs. 🤷🏼‍♀️
And then they followed it up with Beach Boys! I am very fond of old-school R&B and Motown and J just has that soul tone to his voice. Then they did the Beach Boys with DeeJay.
