The idea to lighten the borders and labels for non-Swiss states was a pretty neat idea! I like that.
Yeah! It works perfectly!
I disagree. It made the labels on smaller states - such as the successor states after the end of the house of Zähringen at 0:48 - completely illegible, even with the map full-screen.
Will you finish your 30 years war series? The first two paths were awesome
@@kgbgb3663 Nah I think you're just a hater
@@Okaz_ I'd have to agree
If you missed the community posts, this Switzerland video is just a small part of a larger video about the Holy Roman Empire. It won't be finished until early 2023, so this will probably be the final video for this year. Thanks for your continued support!

Hello 👋
You're so great man
This is incredible on its own . Can't wait for the HRE video!
HRE video? i've seen danzig HD mapper's video on the matter but from you? oughta be impressive.
@@clouds-rb9xt I believe Danzig's video is actually traced from other videos (especially my 2017 Western Europe video). So it's not particularly original, and it has all the mistakes and simplifications that the videos he traced from have.
This new HRE video will be entirely original - no tracing. I'm researching essentially every town to make sure nothing is missed, and recording all the events in a fully-sourced spreadsheet, which will be made available to the public once the project is finished. I'm hoping the HRE video will be a step-up from anything I've done previously, which is why it's taking such a long time.
Neutral content
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
Aren't you one of the guys on the evan thwaites video?
Neutral canton
Anti-semitic content
Canton that speak many languages, but not Cantonese
That's so awesome !!!
Rarely have I seen someone make a history of Switzerland, the first such detailed and wonderfully designed work I've seen on the internet, and looking forward to the more massive works to come!
Ollie Bye is a wonderful mapper, or whatever you call it, They never fail to give us perfect information about the empires, Kingdoms, nations growing and falling in the respective country/area. I love your videos mate. Keep going!
@ollie bye: as a Swiss, I greatly appreciate this. Impressively detailed, wow!
The only thing that I noticed is the border between Aargau und Zürich. The hook-like incursion of AG into ZH is actually the pre-1803 border. After Napoleon's withdrawal, the municipality of Dietikon joined the reformed Zürich away from the catholic Aargau.
... not that I expect an update with so many other countries that would have priority ;)
die grenze zwüsche aargau und züri si immerno bekriegt, wenn me spreiti vs dietike betrachtet xD
so isch lessig
@@Fnidnersame here bro 😴
Are the founding noble families still alive?
Really excited for your video on the HRE! Great job so far!
So glad you remastered this one, much love from Basel ❤
Can’t wait for the HRE Video!
amazing job as always ollie. I always appreciate all the detail you put into every video
I really, really like the new approach and style, amazing job!
Even after a minute of watching it's amazing, can't wait for the HRE video, it'll be amazing.
Good to see you back. Excited about your upcoming HRE video.
Man idk what it is, the style or even the music you choose but your maps are always my favorite
Absolutely magnificent! Great job, still hyped for that HRE video!
Very nice
It’s pretty amazing that you managed to not only correctly exclude Campione d’Italia, from the Canton of Ticino, you also included the joining of Saiento and Cavajone into the Val Bernina of the Grisons in 1863 (and another border correction in the same canton in 1870, probably in the Tschlin municipality, but I am not sure). You even connected most of the cantons to their exclaves! If only this was done for Genève, Vaud and Fribourg as well… Nevertheless, what a brilliant video, thank you!
Hey, minor correction: The first federal charter is dated on August 1291, but we don't actually know when it was signed; it is mentioned that an older charter existed, and it was custom to date treaties back to when an assumed older copy was first signed, so we have actually no clue when exactly the document was signed.
Apart from this, the vid is spectacular in details and, as far as i can tell, accuracy (apart from some minor mistakes on the borders of the modern cantons)
Oh i love this dude's mapping so much. Please keep going on!
the new styles for color and labeling is just gorgeous
very easy on the eyes
Outstanding and amazing -- as always. Thank you!!
Very well made! Good job!
It's amazing to see you still doing hard work, years and years later.
Massive respects for making such a detailled video about Switzerland and the Holy Roman Empire! I can't even imagine how much time it must take for you to research 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺. Astonishing work, Ollie Bye! ❤
As Always. Good Job!
Your maps are getting so good man
Amazing new style for maps!
Also, amazing video, and I love Switzerland :>
Great video, great job, Ollie!
Excellent video!
Absolutely amazing. Thank you, I learned so much about the region I grew up in! :)
I swear you and geography and Space are the best timeline creators never give Up!!!
Thank you for making this.
This is so stunningly detailed
A new video yay and I saw your video from 6 years back, it kinda helped me because I’ve been struggling on art and now I know I might be. Able to improve and do some things with Capcut and those art apps you use anyway good job on 310k I still remember when you were congratulating your self on 10k and you’ve become a really good UA-camr, I how to be as good a you one day.
Great video! Love to Switzerland from Spain 🇪🇸❤️🇨🇭
2 small mistakes: Laufen District only joined Basle-Country in 1994. Until then, it was Berne as you merged Laufen District to BL already from 1816. Also, Münchenwiler is in Canton of Berne and not in Canton of Fribourg.
Great video.
Welcome back mein freund!
*Wilchumme, miin fründ!

Very epic!
hi :) good work!
Cannot wait for the HRE video, it will be so awesome.
Good job Ollie!
I loved it, thank you! I'm from Bangladesh. I am week about the Switzerland.I love your videos mate. Keep going!
Bet this took a while to make, well done :)
Superb!
Epic content.
Just Amazing !!!
Your videos are great
Cool video! During primary school my teacher would enthustiastically teach us about Swiss history. He even took us on an exciting field trip to the Rütliwiese, the place where our "founding fathers" proclaimed the confederacy. Those were fun days!
WHAT??? The founding fathers didnt proclaimed the confederacy!!!!
The fouding fathers of Switzerland and the Swiss Confederation, you dumbwat xD
@@augustin5611 that was the joke lmao
Not sure if you had a terrible teacher or you're beeing ironic, but the Rütliwiese has no relevance in swiss history before WW2...
Fascinating
I like ur timelapse maps of various political entities.much more informative than history books
Лайк за старания. Разбираться во всех этих земельных переделках, точно было сложным.
Cool !
Yet another masterpiece from Ollie Bye
I really like the style
Me: The music in this video sounds amazing
Also me: **wishing that I could get every single epic song used in any video**
Cool i love it 👍
Super awesome
Finally! Wc back
The region of Laufen was in Bern from 1815 to 1994
Good video must come with good music 👍🏻
As a New Zealander I find it quite funny that there used to be States named Chur and Milo
Well chure, Chur‘s the main city of the South-east but are u sure there‘s a place called Milo -Or did ya misread it for Milano?
@@karlosdeevs hmmm, I literally thought I saw Milo somewhere as plain as day but rewatching it I cant seem to find it, well, you know how it is with your brain playing tricks on you
@@monkeypie8701 yh true, happens to me every day.. it‘s how the data base first grasps the knowledge (not always cleanly on first touch).
Chur is still a city in Switzerland. Its the capital of the canton Graubünden
@@MMadesen of course it is, no one ever questioned it..
I loved it, thank you! I'm from Argentina but a part of my family is from Aargau, Switzerland.
❤️🇨🇭❤️
Your name says it all! Greetings from an Aargau born.
@@faraway7696 sorry, I just saw this comment. I moved to Europe, currently living in Piedmont, I'll try to visit Aargau this year. Greetings!
Nice. Even St Gall's regain of Ebringen and Norsingen (the two little territories in the north of the map) is included. Some corrections: Norsingen came under direct rule as a domain of St Gall in 1607, Ebringen in 1621. In 1806 the canton St Gall got the two villages as an extraterritorial domain and sold them one year later to Baden. Baden recognized the claims of the canton on the domain of Ebringen, as the canton beeing the successor of the abbey.
But both villages, although beeing a St Gall domain, remained part of Anterior Austria between 1607/21 and 1803/06. It was therefore more like a condominium of St Gall and Austria (and Baden and the canton in 1806). It was quite complicated. (Guess where I am from ;-) )
Sorry for the misspellings. The autocorrection was too fast...
Thanks for your explanation of that. I'll be able to make this correction for the Holy Roman Empire video coming out next year, although admittedly they'll scarcely be visible on that scale.
Impressive. I do wonder however: why wasn't the Sonderbund shown?
I guess it's because it lasted for less than a year
I would like this level of detail for a map of Northerrn Italy, from around the year 1100 to 1600
Great video! Just an inaccuracy I've noticed: You showed the Appenzell split in 1803, when in actuality, the canton already split in 1597. Also, the 1291 founding of the confederacy is more legendary than historical. Otherwise, the video is very informational
Sincerely, a history student from Switzerland.
Very cool
You missed the opportunity to include all of the Swiss invasions of Lichtenstein.
Neuchâtel used to be a territory of the House of Hohenzollern (The ruling house of Prussia) from the 18th century until 1848
Can you please do a video about the War in the Waikato?
Give this guy a medal
Vive le Comté de Montbéliard! un grand merci d'avoir représenté ma terre natale!
Epic should make a quick tutorial video on this
Awesome video!! The blue in france can be confused as water 💦
What sources have you used?
very small mistake: laufen was not properly marked as bern
The new UA-cam zoom update on mobile is very useful for reading all the names
Will you finish your 30 years war series? The first two paths were awesome
I'll make a new version from scratch after the HRE video is done.
What do you use to make the maps?
Could you do a video on the spread of black pepper
Finally!
Considering the way they grew it's a miracle Switzerland doesn't have worse borders.
He back bois
Ollie Bye posts are now almost as rare as wars involving Switzerland.
Greetings from Switzerland!
There's no country like ours! Nice choice of music btw
Sorry to be so picky, but wasn't Céligny part of Geneva since 1146?
Funny how the very place the Habsburgs originated from was also the first one to kick them out
We need a tut on how to do war animations like this
Good
The king is here!! The legend is upon us!!
Switzerland: The Land of Neutrality
Kafka asked once in his Journal, what is the size of Switzerland if deployed on a flat map, ie unfold ? So that you should have done, maybe it's greater than Italy.
can you do a tutorial on how to do the aniamtions
Great video but I miss the Sonderbund.
goated
I love you and your work
Not a fan of the color scheme, but other than that, great video!
