ALL of this drug nonsense is a waste of the court and the jury's time. He has been entirely forth-right with acknowledging every single aspect of these. Being a drug addict doesn't forgive "ms. heard" from physically assaulting him, and it also doesn't prove any of her psychotic claims that Johnny ever hit her.
Are you under the impression she is under trial for abuse? You do understand this is a defamation trial... Him being a drug addict is totally relevant to their defense. This is like the most basic tactic in cross-examination. I don't think you have a solid grasp of how trials work. You might wanna do a bit more research into the subject.
It is a strange question indeed . You described Paul Bettany as a great friend to him but then followed by a sudden unnecessary defamation not only to Johnny but to Paul as well. I could've sworn that the question was only to incriminate him, if it's not too obvious
Drugs have nothing to do with this case. They are clutching at straws here, to try and paint him in a bad light, yet he just answers openly and honestly, which they clearly aren't expecting. Shows more character and dignity than she ever will.
Very true....and since when has Alcohol been glassed as a drug ??? The Queen is partial to a glass of Gin & Tonic, Is she now a drug addict 😂🤪 this really is just a classic case of character assassination, which is failing miserably 😎
They’re asking the same questions over and over about his drug use to see if he loses his temper. To Heard’s team that’s proof Johnny is a physical abuser. Pathetic on their part.
You're 100% correct It's like the prosecution was with Kyle rittenhouse, using pathetic tricks because they were desperate but ! No doubt that johnnys Lawyer keeps reminding him of their dirty tactics and the most important thing for him to do is ride through the storm every time they try it
i love how it always seems that whenever depp is just straight forward and gives them an honest answer, its as if its not the answer they were expecting and panic to piece together a convincing argument
Alcohol is classified as a drug. Coke and alcohol go together like peas and carrots. The coke keeps you awake so you can drink more. That's not the same as having a beer with a friend. Not judging him for it just stating the facts.
Johnny is definitely referring to being a "southern gentleman" in the sense that you are, generally, gentlemanly toward others. You can be a southern gentleman and also drink too much or abuse drugs. I, for one, believe he is probably a genuine, down to earth guy who enjoys people and the wide array of differences we have.
I love how Amber's defense team is having Depp, under oath, answer questions about whether or not he's done drugs with other famous people. What the hell is the point of asking of Paul Bettany has used drugs, what does that achieve?
Her lawyers are banking on JD being a liar, like Amber told them he is, which he isn't. That's why all these questions seem like a joke, unrelated and repetitive. They just want him to lie so Amber looks honest. And side note, it makes me happy to see how deflated Amber is. She was so sure that this wouldn't happen, and here she is, listless in court and looking like she just got caught shoplifting from the ten-cent store.
This. So much this, Holly Universe. I think she has actually misled her own lawyers, telling them lies (Not surprisingly, really). Which leads to their preparations are really bad, and they are now shuffling papers around to try to wing it on the go. -And failing miserably.
Johnny is washing off all the dirt he got in touch with in his life. I think this is really healthy for him. Like a big relief. After this he will take care much better for himself.
This case is a perfect demo of how lawyers operate when they HAVE no case i.e. character assassination. Must admit though it is somewhat refreshing to see a man taking the role of assassinee, it's usually a woman bwing accused of prostituting herself etc. in order to 'justify' her rape. I think Amber Heard is well aware of this. There's a moment in those tapes where she says something like "You're the man Johnny, who's gonna believe you??" 🤔 I really hope Johnny wins.
What is this whole southern gentleman bull? Are YOU a "southern gentleman"? Is Amber Heard a "southern lady" or whatever the term is for women? Who among us is perfect? Who will cast the first stone? This whole character assassination is so desperate, if anything you're just endearing people even more to Johnny's cause by trying to argue that because he's not perfect he should be automatically assumed to be a villain and guilty of anything he's accused of
I believe he does live up to the manners and courtesy of a gentleman, he has always been known to be such in the UK and in France. Although a true gentleman may well have belted the batch.
Bizarre and totally unnecessary… you saw him taking a pause to think of a way to not incriminate Bettany. Only reason I can hypothetically think of if there was a case they both did drugs and Depp became violent 🤷🏻♂️
I love how her lawyers basically have nothing so they think that bringing up his drug use will somehow turn people against him. It's 2022, everyone has their vices, nobody is going to fall for that crap.
They have to make him look bad in one way or another. There's no way she will win this trial if they don't do it because they have no evidence of anything he's been charged for.
@@zaneplatt3533 Then you don't understand how relevance works. All of this is extremely relevant to their defense. Its to impeach credibility and cast reasonable doubt on the OP-ED being what caused his career downfall.
I don't understand the way this trial is being handled. Isn't it all about how Depp is the one that's abused, they dealt with it, provided evidence through images, witness' and tapes. Yet they keep diving into Depp's past, drug use, relationships with friends, family and ex's. His opinion on drugs and other things.. Random youth experiences that holds no relevance whatsoever at the abuse at hand? Like, what..? I've never seen a trial like this before.
It's fairly common. It's just that this is high profile. Drug use is often used to discredit people in court, it's pretty effective to get a conviction, because jurors typically have a lot of preconceived notions of anyone who does or has done drugs. If he had not been a famous celebrity who is kind of expected to have done drugs, this tactic could have been effective.
A defamation case is all about one person saying another person is lying, in this case it’s JD saying Amber lied on his name. If you can bring to light how a person could not be the most honest (which they’re trying to do with JD) you can discredit their claim that other person (Amber) is lying. That’s why it’s been pretty much all gloves off when it comes to bringing up JD’s past of drugs/partying/etc.
This is so degrading and humilliating, what is the need in exposing a person's weakness in such matter. They are trying to destroy his image since they can not prove he attacked that broad. She should go to jail and be banned from Hollywood. Besides she also does drugs, so she nor her defense can question other people's morals.
@Video Games I've partaken in that realm before when I was younger and would continue if not for my job and turned out just fine and as a matter of fact do better than most so I agree with you.
Why dragging his friends into this. Paul bettany doesn't even seem like someone who does drugs. This is so distateful. Amber dragging all these people through the dirt just to try to win this case. She looks just like every crazy liar I've ever dated
And like Robert Downey Jr. has a past too involving jail, drugs, whatever kinds of crazy things he did. And then his life completely turned around. I never knew Paul Bettany was ever involved in anything like that until this clip. He just doesn't seem like the type. That's why I mentioned RDJ. People change. So I agree with Johnny too. Strange question. Seems like Amber's lawyer is grasping at straws.
This has been almost as funny as the Rittenhouse trial. Where do they find these lawyers? Is there some sort of website where you can pick out the bottom of the barrel?
It reminds me of the rittenhouse trial The cheap, dirty tactics the prosecution used on Kyle clearly showed they were desperate and had nothing credible against him to convince the jury
Floundering cross: "Do you do drugs?" Johnny: "for the 42069th time, yes" Judge told them they're limited on time, if defense wants to waste all of theirs with such pointless questions *shrug
The limited on time comments shouldn't be taken at face value. The attourney just doesn't want to give Depp the chance to put context and his yes/no answers. That's all.
I’d be careful about bring or disparaging Paul Bettany’s name if it doesn’t support the defence. I don’t think it mattered in that line of questioning who/what Depp did drugs with
Breaking news: Johnny Depp was a drug addict and alcoholic. 😑 I’m pretty sure the public have known this for decades. I remember reading about his addiction 10 years ago
honestly, this is wonderful. This is the best they have. She's a violent psychopath, he angrily slams cabinet doors and does drugs with his friends. The longer it goes on, the worse it gets for Heard.

Any lawyer watching this and a couple of other specific moments from the trial would be cringing for the rest of the day. Doesn't AH still have the money from the divorce? A legal team is not where you want to be skimping when losing means 50 million.
Nope she doesn't have the money. The money was supposed to be donated over a period of time. Originally Johnny would send money to Amber which then would be donated, however Amber did some stuff (it's somewhere in his direct, i think), then Johnny decided to donate the money directly in Ambers name.
Absolutely, especially when they don’t get their reference numbers right 3, even 4 times in a row during cross examination. The male litigator still has some nerve to be condescending toward Johnny - about time limits on answers and other gravy. Amber received US$7 million from their divorce and stated publicly she’d donate all to 2 charities. JD paid in instalments directly to those charities in Amber’s name. It’s insane this outraged her. Even if AH’s 2022 smear campaign succeeds in persuading the jury of JD’s drug use, evidence that Johnny ever hit her is absent. We’re all hoping Johnny gets his life back when this is over.
Fascinating! I mean it's amazing how media outlets can drag this out, monetizing every little moment of it, no matter how inconsequential or uninteresting they may be.
Maybe Johnny or his legal team talked about that with him, also if there is evidence that they did do it togheter... why lie about it? It only makes you deceptive.
This constant implication that addicts/former addicts are automatically abusive is just disgusting. If Amber somehow wins this it'll set a really horrible precedent for how addicts are treated.
Well when you make a cocktail like he does, some do get violent. I'm not saying he got violent, because I wasn't there to witness that. Just saying it is possible. @@pricklypear7934 everyone reacts to everything differently is what I'm saying. Some people are violent and have angry outbursts while sober. He's got a job to do for his client! Just like Depp's attorneys do their damnedest to make AH look bad at ever single turn. Bet that doesn't bother you, though.
if i was datng amber, I would be on drugs too
just say drugs, alcohol is one, her lawyers are pathetic indeed and as an ex-addict, im gettin second hand annoyance as much as Depp is, because it's basically just painting 'you do drugs - must be a bad person' image which we all know just isn't true and that a lot of drug abusers use them because of past trauma.
So its just disgusting for me and other ex-addicts, im sure, to see them try use that against someone, its so commendable that he is sober now, especially with all this, id be relapsed in no time probably with that much stress and hatred that was first flung at him when this first started.
edit: spelling correction, not his lawyers as i said incorrectly, i meant hers
they have to bring that up...their whole strategy is to try and make him look as an "agressive" drug addict to convince the jury that he did abuse amber although there isn't a single proof of it. If you take that out of the ecuation, they have no other way to make a case that amber wasn't lying (difamating him).
They are in COURT and his drug and alcohol use is IMPORTANT as hers would be.
They're lost. What was that question? No relevance. She's got nothing on him. That cross examination was embarrassing
my guess is they're trying to equate Depp being a 'drug addict' to being an abusive husband. and imo all they've proved is regardless of what he took or if he's drunk he's not a 'crazy mfer' who beats his wife
You mean embarrassing for the lawyer, right?
@@shahjalal664 yes, that is what I meant correct. Embarrassing for the lawyers.

@@richardremick1639 The hushed "where's he going?" comment from him definitely was the cherry on top.
ALL of this drug nonsense is a waste of the court and the jury's time. He has been entirely forth-right with acknowledging every single aspect of these. I dont justify drugs but I wouldn't be surprised if her abuse drove him more into drugs too
Are you under the impression she is under trial for abuse? You do understand this is a defamation trial... Him being a drug addict is totally relevant to their defense. This is like the most basic tactic in cross-examination. I don't think you have a solid grasp of how trials work. You might wanna do a bit more research into the subject.
@@nex8000 Still not a great line of reasoning though, hes been a druggie for ages yet he didnt get dropped from movies until ambers hit piece came out
It is a strange question indeed .

No doubt that johnnys Lawyer keeps reminding him of their dirty tactics and the most important thing for him to do is ride through the storm every time they try it

@@ngoddess9684 if the abuse was so bad, why did johnny stay? Its a pretty ridiculous statement to make don't you think?
i love how it always seems that whenever depp is just straight forward and gives them an honest answer, its as if its not the answer they were expecting and panic to piece together a convincing argument
Love how he threw alcohol into his list of drugs just to pad the list as if drinking with a friend isn't the most normal thing in the world
Alcohol is classified as a drug. Coke and alcohol go together like peas and carrots. The coke keeps you awake so you can drink more. That's not the same as having a beer with a friend. Not judging him for it just stating the facts.
Lawyer: So you do drugs?
Depp: Yes.
Lawyer: The defense rests your honor.
Hell, I'd say that drinking at least a bit too much is a significant *part* of the stereotypical 'southern gentleman'.
The better question is can you even be a “southern gentleman” sober?
I am impressed with Johnny Depp's honesty, transparency, and humble attitude, even though it's sometimes humiliating.
I love how Amber's defense team is having Depp, under oath, answer questions about whether or not he's done drugs with other famous people. What the hell is the point of asking of Paul Bettany has used drugs, what does that achieve?
If you had said no, I'm sure they would have brought up evidence
@Nuby probably text message
We understand he has done "some" drugs!!
Ask real questions, like..." how awesome was it to do blow with Keith Richards?"

There's a moment in those tapes where she says something like "You're the man Johnny, who's gonna believe you??" 🤔
I really hope Johnny wins.

It’s the desperation of Amber’s legal team for me lol
They are trying to defame Johny. They are desperate because they know they lost. Actors doing drugs in no great revelation.
@@zefft.f4010 But they have both used drugs, together..
Trying to destroy lives as a job, this is what it is.

And like Robert Downey Jr. has a past too involving jail, drugs, whatever kinds of crazy things he did. And then his life completely turned around.
Originally Johnny would send money to Amber which then would be donated, however
Amber did some stuff (it's somewhere in his direct, i think), then Johnny decided to donate the money directly in Ambers name.
