Thanks for the video, very informative. I made the decision to move from the FIT deemed export to the SEG as well. I have a 2011 installed 4KW array. Last year we added another 4KW array and a 13.5KWH Tesla Powerwall. I was missing any payments for the new solar array and only getting 4p for the 50% deemed export, so the figures were very small in comparison to what I could expect by adding in the new array and the increase in export tariff. I have now moved to the octopus SEG which is paying 15p (just awaiting for the switch over to complete - it's taken about a month so far). Winter is the right time to make the change as we will not be exporting much if anything, so any loss should be minimal. I do wish I had found your video before making the decision as I made my choice made on gut instinct, rather than the excellent excel spreadsheet you have created. subscribed to the channel to see what else you put up and review your existing videos. cheers John

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch, comment on this video and the kind words.
A 2011 FIT array - wow that's a great legacy FIT! Yes, it pained me to see all my unused solar generation from my new array going back to the grid for no financial reward, especially in the summer when my generation way exceeds demand from the home and battery.
Octopus Flux is well worth looking at for the Spring/Summer to take advantage of the higher export payment rate (although we will need to see if it changes come April 24). I made this more recent video which may be helpful when choosing a tariff depending on the time of year: ua-cam.com/video/61w5JEY3xz0/v-deo.html
Thank you for following the channel and coming along for the journey 🙂

Great video, we have two systems on our roof a 4k feed in tariff from 2011 and a new 4.4k battery system, we have just moved to Octopus energy and are thinking of moving the export tariff from the feed in tariff system, thanks for the video👍

Thanks for such a comprehensive video. We have just added another 4kw and 9.2kw battery to our existing 3.8kw array installed in 2014. Like you, we were wondering whether to give up our fit export payments and switch to octopus. You have convinced us to do just that. Our little diesel skoda fabia averages over 60mpg, so we have no plans to change it. We have a combi gas boiler, so no water to heat. We have a gadget which transfers spare solar to our towel rails and a small storage heater but they only work well during the warm months! In the last few days we have been exporting nearly 40kwh per day. I know the weather is great but that adds up to a lot of cash at 15p per kwh, as as opposed to the export on just our old system. Thanks again

Hi Chris - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
That sounds very similar to our additional install. As you say with no EV you'll have an abundance of kWh to export. I would definitely look at Flux as an export option rather than octopus outgoing - payments during the day vary by region but are around 20p during the day and 33p per kWh 4-7pm - I recorded this video here which you may want to check out: ua-cam.com/video/429gWuzDr4E/v-deo.html
You're probably already aware but you don't need to switch your FIT payments to Octopus too. I've chosen to keep mine with EDF for simplicity and actually from an export point of view they have been spot on since 2015.

@Everything Home, thanks for the link to the other video. It certainly looks like the flux tariff will suit us. I have only just signed up to octopus (sorry, it was before I saw your referral offer), so have to wait to apply for a smart meter, export mpan etc. I do intend to keep my fit payments with my existing company but thanks for mentioning it.

this is exactly what I'm looking for -thanks! About to buy out my 'solar lease' so finally getting hold of my 2011 FIT for 13 more years, and added more solar recently. I'll have a play with the spreadsheet. Also this unlocks options like octopus flux - have you experimented with that?

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
Yes, I'm on flux at the moment and once import is factored in made £54 in the last week alone. It's working really well. I looked at the numbers in this video before jumping onto Flux ua-cam.com/video/429gWuzDr4E/v-deo.html
I'll be putting out a video in the next month or so recapping the quarter on Flux.

Thanks, Gary Does Solar sent me here! I have a legacy FiT with Ecotricity and my import is with Octopus but I don't have a smart meter (yet) - I've tried to speak to Octopus about switching my FiT to them but they seemed a bit clueless and were trying to push me to a SEG tariff, which clearly shouldn't be the case. Eventually they sent me a link to a Google Forms sheet that allows me to transfer my FiT, but their customer service is a little indirect (unlike Ecotricity that have a dedicated team) so I'm hesitant to do this at the moment - I think it would be useful to move to a smart meter and have the option to move to a smart tariff but am wary that they will mess something up in the admin and I'll lose my FiT - or they will take my 50% deemed export and start measuring it! At the moment my export is pretty low as I already have HW diversion and recently added a 4.8kWh battery...just wondering if you have a smart meter AND retained the deemed export or if they are measuring it on your FiT?

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  Рік тому +1

      Hi Umski,
Thanks. I definitely wouldn't give up the FIT generation/deemed export payment. You DO NOT have to switch your FIT over to Octopus at all. Mine is still with EDF, although I am about to give up my deemed export (for the reasons in the video) but the FIT generation will continue to be with EDF. My export payments will be with Octopus when this happens. Just to be clear from what I understand from what you've said I don't suggest you should do this unless you run the numbers and are happy to take the risks.
Re a smart meter - our old solar array was installed in 2015, electric smart meter in 2017 - we've had no problems claiming back FIT generation and deemed export payments via EDF.
All the best. If you’ve not already, please do like this video and stay tuned for some more content.

@@everythinghome thanks, yes not intending to give up the FiT export but was thinking it would make sense to consolidate all my import and export to Octopus - the catch being that they seem clueless about the FiT hence staying with Ecotricity (for now at least) - so from what you've said it could sense to switch to a smart meter with no risk of getting measured export as Octopus would have nothing to do with that since my generation meter reading will still be used by Ecotricity. *If* in the future I add more PV (unlikely for now) or an EV (been considering a used Outlander as a stepping stone) then it may make sense to consolidate everything with Octopus (I also have my Ripple wind turbine coming online later this year with Octopus so seems to make sense - happy to share a referral code if interested 😁)

If the FIT is working where it is, I see little point in rocking the boat... there is nothing to be gained.
Even when I had mine fitted there were rumours of this happening but nothing ever came of it. Plus I can't see them changing the agreement that was guaranteed for 20/25yrs.
Ripple - I looked at this briefly but decided against - there's only so much I need to invest in managing my energy bills but I understand a number of people are signed up.
      All the best

Many thanks for this highly informative video; I've liked and subscribed!
I'd really appreciate your advice: I have one PV array with a 2011 FIT contract (EDF) and had a second PV array with a battery installed recently. A recent smart meter records the total export amalgamated from both arrays. I'm with Octopus for my electricity supply(no gas in the house). I want to keep the generous FIT generation payment, give up the FIT deemed 50% export payment and move all my export(as measured by my smart meter) to an Octopus smart tariff, probably "Outgoing". Is this possible? If I understood correctly, you did something similar. If so, please let me know how. Octopus has not yet given me an answer after trying for three weeks. Many thanks for considering this!

    • @everythinghome
      @everythinghome  Рік тому +1

Hi Dieter - thanks for taking the time to watch and the kind words.
Yes I've given up my FIT deemed export payment and kept the FIT generation payment. I've chosen to keep this payment with EDF my original FIT provider as there is no advantage to moving it to octopus energy and it just works so I didn't want to rock the boat.
If once you've decided this is right for you and the numbers stack up (you can download the calculator if you need some estimates/run some scenarios www.buymeacoffee.com/EverythingHome/e/117404.) you can inform your current FIT provider of this intention. Once they've updates the register then octopus should be able to set you up on their side for export payments.
      Hope that helps,
      Shan

Hi, thanks for the very informative video. It was very helpful as, like you, I am on the FIT tariff (although one of the earlier higher rates), have an electric car and am getting the Givenergy battery (which I think you have?).
Once the battery is installed I’ll change over to a smart meter and consider moving over to Octopus (I’ll certainly use your referral link if I do).
On a totally different note, I know it’s a silly question, but as a bit of a geek, I liked the look of your energy monitor you showed around 10 minutes into the video and wondered if you could let me know where you got it from please? Thanks again, take care. Peter

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful.
Yes you're right, we have an 8.2 kWh battery. It'll certainly go well with your older FIT and allow you to mop up that excess solar. Thank you - that would be great and will be helpful towards a new mic🎙.
Ah yes - that is really useful - it's a cheap fire tablet running the GivEnergy app via FullyKiosk (which is free). I used it before for the octopus watch app and Tado app and if of interest I put this together for how you can replicate it: ua-cam.com/video/MTApiF7mPEU/v-deo.html
All the best and hope your battery install goes well 👍
