I have know that alot of farmers use old freezers for feed storage. I hadnt thought about the small beverage containers for water! Great idea! Thanks

Those are great ideas! I particularly love the idea of using the freezer for the feed. I like that it can be locked. Thanks for sharing.

+2leelou Preserves - So far both of these have worked well and no vermin have infiltrated the food :-) Hope all is well, take care! :-)

Those are great ideas, especially the thermos for the water. I was going to try the metal garbage cans for their feed, I didn't think rodents would have gotten into that. Well, right now I'm using rubbermaid totes and no rodents have invaded yet, guess I'll stick with what I'm doing! :)

+tooterr101 oldgeezer - I am so excited that I finally have a solution to freezing waterers (without having to run electric to the coop) - I just keep them on the inside wall and put the lids on them and so far, so good! The metal trash cans were no match for the night critters and I found out mice can still get into them - While the freezer is ugly right now, it works great so I will be painting it this Spring so it looks better in the yard. Stay Warm & Thanks for stopping by! :-)

+BacktoBasics Gal have you thought about paintings it with a 2 part epoxy?

No, I was actually thinking of trimming it out with 1 x 3's painted white and leaving the cream color since it sorta matches the coop color...I think that would help it not look like a freezer sitting in the yard anyway....LOL -

Thanks for your great ideas to make life easier and frugal. Is the freezer non working?

+Martha Michloney - They said it worked but it is pretty old (1989 or so they thought) it's really quite small. They said it burns a lot of energy so it costs quite a bit to operate which is why they were dumping it and buying a newer, more energy efficient freezer. I never plugged it in, I just wanted it to keep the critters out of the feed! Thanks for stopping by & Stay warm!

This is about your pemmican video. I would like to try real pemmican to see what it is like before
I spend the money on a food processor. Would have any to sell or know of someone that does?
Thank you for your time. David

I'm not sure of anyone who sells pemmican made from these ingredients. Maybe you could try and make a small batch and use a nut or coffee grinder or similar device you may have access to in order to try it? I'd want to try the product made with the same recipe because the commercially made pemmican doesn't taste anything like this does. I was surprised that it doesn't taste really greasy and did not upset my stomach - it actually has a pleasant, but unusual taste In my opinion. I hope this helps. LM not sure what else to suggest. :-)
