I always wished for this camera to come with in-built flash because carrying an external flash simply defeats the purpose of having a compact design, i wish its successor comes out with an in-built flash like ricoh gr digital
Just grab a Reflx Lab Mini Flash Gen2, they’re the smallest flash period & at only $50, you can’t go wrong. It will perform at least as good as a built-in flash & if you don’t like it, you’re only out $50
really impressed with the results you achieve using the flash in daylight, its definitely something that is a special look. getting it right does have its challenges. zen billings
How did you active the flash? Somehow my Ricoh GRII (i know that isn’t the one you’re using, but maybe you still have some tipps) doesn‘t trigger my Leica CF Flash, which works on basically everything from SLRs to my digital Sony. If I attach it to the Ricoh nothing happens and I can’t even get to the flash settings. Am I missing something?
Sold my Contax T2 (worried about motor failure, the price of film is too high) a couple of months ago and just bought this combo this week to have a smaller rig to compliment my R5. I was just trying to get a feel of what the flash was like and was so happy to hear you compare it to the T2. Fantastic photos and the contrast really does remind me of what I got out of the T2. Cheers!
Nice one! - Can you say something about the settings you used? You already mentioned that you don't use the auto settings, but how do you set the flash and the GR? Any tips? Cheers, jan
@@MIKESUNDAY thanks for the reply, the only thing that was worrying me is the power difference between the two units but I guess they are in the same zone. I work with video so this is not really my domain but I like this style a lot for event photography !
I had this flash and i could not get it to work right in small rooms. The flash was too bright and the camera would change the aperture to 5.6 and the whole backround would be dark. If i put it in aperture priority at 2.8 it would blow the exposure. I have the new reflx labs manual flash and you cannot adjust the flash power . I think the griiix is best without a flash.
I use it at M(1/4) strength and play with the aperature or Auto (and then adjust in post). It's not the best set up for small rooms though because the preview doesn't show what it'll look like with flash
Mike do you mind sharing the film setting that you use for the Ricoh GRIIIX? Tried messaging you from IG but couldn't. Cheers! Looking forward to Japan Vlog Part 3 if there's any
35mm is good if you're photographing friends, but I think for real street photography, where you can't predict what's going to happen next and you have absolutely no time to get the composition right, 35mm is too narrow.

man it would be such much more versatile with the built in ;(
Gr2 had one :(
This is exactly the reason why I bought the Gr2 instead of the GR3 in 2020.
This is why I’m keeping my GRDIv. Griii is great but grd beats it for colour and b&w, and also aspect ratios

Finally a video of the GRIIIX with good photos!
appreciate the kind words :)

great! feel free to ask any questions I think you'll like it

you can go to the flash setting and make the camera dimm the pictures more..
What do you think about this flash vs the Lightpix Flash Q20ii? Cool photos, I love the aesthetic.
yup both would work! think it's just about what you have available / fits your kit but you could easily get results like this with any flash

@@vanraz you can compensate with your settings... FWIW I tend to over expose my photos a bit in post (shooting raw) just have fun!
@@AsianEthics thanks! Will keep this in mind :)

@@MIKESUNDAY Yep, that's the other thing. The preview is dark and autofocus is worse.

Hey really that's super weird! Can you join my discord? Regardless I'll make a short with the full settings!
@@MIKESUNDAY Sure, will join your discord, thanks!
Hi, is it not possible to dial down the intensity on the flash? Or even change the white balance in it?
not easily!!! I would say it's not super flexible as a flash
@@MIKESUNDAY Oh, ok. Thanks for clarifying!

I can definitely see that! I do photograph people on the street not everyone pictured was a friend but yeah the 28mm is great for spontaneity
Cool video, do you mind sharing what the flash is? Thanks in advance

Pentax AF201FG Flash... quite old now but it gets the job done!
Cool video! Subscribed :D
Thank you!!
You take very nice photos.
I seen a photo of Vietnamese Banh Mi shop. Are you Vietnamese? Because I see you like Asian people.
