    In this thought-provoking video, Father Josiah Trenham addresses the claim that Scripture alone is sufficient for Christian faith, without the need for the Church. He examines the dangers of isolating the Bible from Church tradition and teaches why both are essential for a complete and authentic Christian life. Discover why the Church and Scripture must work together to preserve true faith and practice.

    This is very helpful. Jesus has always been with the Father and BECAME flesh to serve the people. I once heard a Muslim (proudly) say: "Mohammed would never do that!", referring to the fact that Jesus died at the cross. He saw this as the death of Jesus and a humiliation, overlooking the fact that it was the death of Jesus' human existence and the ultimate sacrifice to bring redemption and eternal life to mankind.

    When a priest speaks of the Islam I always remember Priest Daniel Sysoev, who accepted a martyrdom and was killed right in the church because he had not bowed to muslims, he spoke openly, he baptized muslims by dozens. He qualifies as a martyr in all respects, he was killed directly due to his service as a priest and a preacher, inside the church during carrying out priestly obediences. He is not recognized as a saint exclusively due to political correctness and a fear of confessing true religion by the Russian Church officials.

    If any normal person listened to this being talked about as a mystery, they would see that as a copout answer. The real mystery is the human incapacity to understand our own limited nature. If we Christians ask ourselves why we believe, it is true that there is no logical answer, no rational explanation. Except that the presence of God, and the truth and the reality of God, is palpable to us. This is the Holy Spirit's revelation. It's not merely knowledge, but experience. It can't be explained in human terms, but it can be understood in the human heart, our nous, the spiritual hunch. Much like the conscience is an inexplicable "voice" or feeling, it is the same with our nous which hears God and confesses the revealed truth. The nous must be nurtured and developed, through humility and selflessness and honest yearning for the truth.

    Protestant, here. Learning about orthodoxy. It’s common for Protestants to say icons violate the second commandment. What does the orthodox say in response to this?

    • @Lord_Have_MercyX3
      @Lord_Have_MercyX3 2 дні тому +9

      The second commandment was regarding idol worship. Iconography is not idolatry. Anyone that claims this would be saying that Christ himself isn’t worthy to be depicted and venerated. When He Himself most definitely had an image once incarnated, and if we had cameras at that time, there would be photos of Jesus. Don’t you think those photos would be venerated ie kissed etc. So when we depict Christ or one of His saints, and we kiss the icon thereof, we give honor and respect to whomever is depicted.

      The Shroud “of Turin”, (actually stolen from the Hagia Sophia by the Doge’s blasphemous thugs in 1204), IS a photograph of Christ, but the “flash” was made of Uncreated Light.

      If you're coming from a protestant background, then you probably align closely with sola scriptura. In the old testament, God instructed the temple to be built with holy imagery (seraphim, angels, gold, etc...). Does that mean God broke His own commandment? of course not. Also, Israel bowed down and prostrate before the ark of the covenant. Was this considered idolatry in the old testament? of course not. Further, there were synagogues filled with holy imagery that have been dated to 1st and 2nd century B.C. Further, read the 7th ecumenical council. And finally, icons and Holy images and relics have been venerated since the beginning of the Church (we even have icons that Saint Luke wrote). You won't get an exhaustive explanation on a YT comment, but this will at least give you a starting point to learn. Also, watch the 7 part icon documentary on UA-cam.

    Muslims believe in the virgin birth of Jesus. That he had no earthly father. Yet they can’t believe that God would have a pre-incarnate Son, because God has no wife 🤦‍♀️

    • @johnobeid67
      @johnobeid67 2 дні тому

      I’m sorry, but no. To be Christian, you must affirm the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed. This affirms the orthodox Christian teaching that Christ and the Holy Ghost are consubstantial with the Father, and that Christ is “God from God, Light from Light and True God from True God”. Unless you believe this, you are not a Christian and cannot be saved.

      No brother, if you don't believe that Jesus is God then you're not believing in God. It's a matter of faith, and anyone can believe in what they want, but one cannot be Christian without believing in the Christian God.
