Dear Master Tamotsu, It is my greatest plarusre to learn some further metholdology of applying Qin-Na,. To my understanding the process of learning from the beginner , through intermediate and advanced goes along the way from wrist, elboq, alrm and body grips and their solutions . This methodology from beginner, intermediate and advance is really an asset. Many thanks for that an wish you good health. Paul, 66, retired instructor of Karate I

We all know or instinctively feel that our bodies are one biological machine that can be immobilized by strategically placed touch. I just marvel at the Chinese understanding of human anatomy and ability to study it from external point of view - without using expensive equipment. My son once just touched me with his extended finger in chest area without even realizing what he did - and my entire body collapsed to the floor as I lost consciousness for a split of a second. And he knew nothing about pressure points at that time. This is what I call human science at its best. Humble presentation - what a difference from bombastic style of presentations in western world where most just want to get their 15 minutes of fame (and some money along with it). Everyone in this video is so highly civilized it stuns me blind.
"Qin-na to the wrist is an important *first step* in practicing. Through these exercises, we can understand how the human body is structured." great explanation by Miyahira Tamotsu sensei. this is absolutely what most Aikidoka tends to not understand.. they think "hold my wrist" is a legitimate real position lol. this is why Aikido is the most bullied martial arts today. poor poor Morihei Ueshiba must be rolling in his grave...
"Hold my wrist" can happen, but not as you see in demonstrations. You can "force" your opponent to grab your wrist if you were to try and stab them with a knife. If they try to stop your attack by grabbing your wrist, then this applies.
I Look every Video since 2 years and i Must say i love this Master he is so Peacefull respectfull and he tells every technique so simple it enjoys to Look him.👍🏾👏🏾 Hope to Meet him one day … Biggest respect from Berlin germany ✌🏾

There are different types of power in kungfu; Push, Explosive, inch etc. What Tamo is using is what is called Penetrating power. To excecute it its not about strength per say but more about finess, and it delivered deeply through grace at the last moment. Watch his legs, it moves like a tai chi principle 🙏
Not about strength my eye. It's important to keep strong, hard hand and wrists so that you aren't weak and they won't break. Chin-na or Qin-na as spelled here is translated self defense but the expression is also to say grab and hold. It teaches us how easy it is to break the arm. This is one method. Very effective and smart, but training other methods along with it is really how to get to the point where you can have a good chance no matter what. Using shuai chiau (Chinese wrestling) makes it easy to apply the same strategy to the legs if you're rolling around with them, especially. This instructor gives us the real deal, but is also hinting toward the truth that if you think there's just one fool proof technique and that's all you need, you're thinking the wrong thing.
the starting point explanation makes sense. In a street fight the opportunities to use sophisticated techniques won't be so easy to capitalize upon but they do occur. But if one without hours and hours and hours and hours of practice tries to focus both their hands on a wrist technique, they will likely get pounded by the other fist or feet.
what he said is very true. the goal is to know the function and the anatomy of the body and joints. u can't just applied a single technique per se' in a real fight

the little finger in up position and the alignment of the arm to the back of the body... or to the vertical of the body "on the side" of the body... if the arm is anywhere other than the side of the body it doesnt work... if the arm is aligned to the shoulder blade and back the whole body gets locked... that is when a low energy twist that is vertically aligned to the arm going to the shoulder blade and back works...
I'd really like to see these techniques in live training with grapplers who use wrist and elbow control (I'm thinking of wrestlers and no gi BJJ players, especially). I see the principles and I know the positions work once you achieve them but.... I just really want to see it applied to someone in a competitive setting.
It's not really made for that. It's stuff that cops all over the world use on the job. In that environment it's very effective. For example, if it was tried on an experienced grappler that it would not work on, he would probably receive something like a taser or whatever cops do to subdue someone that joint locks don't work on. But the average Joe? Wrist manipulation really works.
@@blockmasterscott Also, if a kung fu master like the gentleman in the video applies those very techniques, even on grapplers, they will have a more chance of working than those applied by cops. On top of that, chin-na is usually studied within given styles of kung fu as part of a whole so if you apply a chin-na technique but for some reason it does not work then you have the striking options in your given kung fu style's arsenal. The master in this video is a complete martial artists with knowledge of several kung fu styles!
Yeah I've tried these joint manipulation things before when rolling at the gym. They're garbage. People don't stand still and let you twist their wrist and they arent being passive either. They're constantly moving and resisting. None of this crap works in a real life scenario.
The reason it works (sometimes) for cops is because usually no one is really "fighting" a cop i.e. trying to knock them out, but either grabbing their arm (perhaps to keep them from pulling out their gun/taser) or trying to pull away/resist arrest. When someone isn't compliant yet not really fighting you can do stuff like this. When people say "real fight" they usually imagine plucking punches out of the air and wrist locking them, which is indeed nonsense. If you want to be able to break someone's joints from a standing position... learn Judo.
@@maofas and that’s my point. Of course it’ll never work in the cage. But cops all over the world would not use joint manipulation if it didn’t work. It works in their environment.
This lesson teaches us that if a knife-wielding assailant kindly lends us his hand and gives us time to make some Kamasutra moves, we can beat him. Very realistic.
I can tell you exactly why/how 'his' technique works. My Master stated...'There are a million secrets in our art'. There are three here. The wise will know exactly what I am talking about! Train hard...train safe, but never wrap the locks on, using too much speed, or too much power...as you may well injure your training partner.

Very interesting... Thank you, greetings from Italy! :)
Wow, a lot of what he said about body positioning is what we do in Tai Chi, I just never realized it until I listened to his explanation.
