Ign has to be the biggest reason why I stopped trusting any "professional" review on a game from others like Metacritic, pcgamer, polygon, ect and only rely now on credible youtube channels built upon reviewing games.

Great video. I just found out about this sonic-ign stuff just yesterday (i somehow missed that) and i was shocked by these guys arguments. I played the first Sonic game about 4 years ago for the first time and i liked it. Im 23 btw so this should mean i have a bad taste in video games. These arguments dont work. Are they now gonna compare the latest Tekken game with the original arcade Street Fighter? A part of me wanted to believe that these "grown men" are just joking but this is clearly not the case. It again reminds me why i dont trust so called "game journalists". The reviews of your average joe with 500 views are more trustworty. Again great video.
Looking back, this video makes me remember an era when Sonic was the butt of all jokes in gaming in the mid-late 2000's. Really, saying you were a Sonic fan was considered a cardinal sin on the internet back then. It was just surprising to me that IGN was still stuck in that mindset even in 2016.
I've been a sonic fan and Mario fan since all my life, I've asked people if they are familiar with sonic, they said yes or no, those who are EITHER like or dislike the character but they say they respect the games progression and the games become greater by the years. These 4 "men" should rethink what they said, because what they said was completely inaccurate and stupid, they probably never even played a single sonic game in their life. Even if sonic had a bad reputation with games during the years, people still say that there are GREAT games he's had that even impressed Mario fans as well. If he wasn't great video character, he wouldnt have the chances to go up against another video game character, and that is Mario. In fact have been a several crossovers for the years. A more legitimate comparison is Sonic 3 & Knuckles vs Super Mario World both of which are my favorites of the franchises, but I certainly favor S3&K. If you look at their size and complexity however they are very comparable.

Also Sonic was defined as different from Mario by adding slopes and physics to the math. Mario World is still enirely blocks and straight lines just like Mario 1, 2, and 3. Mario succeeded by following the same standard and adding a twist. Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are all completely different beasts.
I finally figured it out, you see if you replace every time they say sonic with IGN, replace all mentions of the Sonic games with controversial IGN reviews, then you'll see it odly fits So okay, when I was waiting for the Sonic Mania Review, I was expected the 2nd good IGN review, wait oops, there never was a first, actually IGN was NEVER good, like compare IGN to -Insert (Almost)Non-Biased Reviewer here- and I think you can see who's better, and I didn't ever give a name... can't wait for IGN Mania, or IGN 2020, because my favorite part of the Sonic Unleashed Review was when they said Roxas was a trash character.
Green Hills Zone is a mistranslation the japanese version says Green Hill Zone plus fun fact Emerald Hill was ment to be Green Hill but it was later changed to emerald hill

4:00-4:26 1st, you missed the sonic rush series on the DS. 2nd, It's kind of debatable now whether or not Adventure and Adventure 2 have aged well. 3rd, Peoples opinion on Heroes, Unleashed, and Lost World are very mixed (People either love them or hate them). Other than that, I completely agree.

As a HUGEEEE sonic fan in the 2010s, this is extremely frustrating. For stupid people, the problem isn’t that they don’t know much about sonic. That’s COMPLETELY okay and valid. Not everyone needs to be a fan to criticise its material. What’s the PROBLEM is, if you don’t know much about the thing you are gonna criticise, you either do your research or you don’t cover it at all. Good criticism is judging the material based on what it is, bad criticism is projecting your biases onto the material. OF COURSE a critic can have their own personal beef with the material, that’s OKAY. But even in those situations a good critic will put those aside and critique the material like how they would for their audience, cause they know that their critiques are very important and they can sway their audience with what they say.

Yes, this is so true. What sucks is that SEGA usually listens to game journalists such as IGN and internet critics over actual sonic fans. This is why so many games during the 2010 were light on story, and had lighthearted tones, and only had Sonic be the only playable character, because game journalists critized prior games for being to "edgy", and being to gimmicky. The success of Sonic Generations would also result in plenty of games moving forward to use nostalgic pandering. The worst part is that none of these big name reviewers never really cared about the franchise to begin with, and weren't concerned about the consequences of their actions. While I do think Sega is definitely responsible for how those games turned out in the 2010s, I definitely think some of the journalists carry a decent fraction of that blame. They had a massive impact on the series, but at what cost?
I chose sonic because he just seems like more of a heroic character. He has personality! When I was little I just saw more of that then in a nintendo character who just says "yahoo" ever so often. I mean at least a "OH YEAH!" sounds a little more hyped. I tried Mario games. They're fun but it's the same thing over again. Sonic has been in a hole for a bit but they keep trying!! With that came games like Sonic Gen. Sonic just appeals to me more.

Great video. I just found out about this sonic-ign stuff just yesterday (i somehow missed that) and i was shocked by these guys arguments. I played the first Sonic game about 4 years ago for the first time and i liked it. Im 23 btw so this should mean i have a bad taste in video games.

Looking back, this video makes me remember an era when Sonic was the butt of all jokes in gaming in the mid-late 2000's. Really, saying you were a Sonic fan was considered a cardinal sin on the internet back then. It was just surprising to me that IGN was still stuck in that mindset even in 2016.

I've been a sonic fan and Mario fan since all my life, I've asked people if they are familiar with sonic, they said yes or no, those who are EITHER like or dislike the character but they say they respect the games progression and the games become greater by the years. These 4 "men" should rethink what they said, because what they said was completely inaccurate and stupid, they probably never even played a single sonic game in their life. Even if sonic had a bad reputation with games during the years, people still say that there are GREAT games he's had that even impressed Mario fans as well. If he wasn't great video character, he wouldnt have the chances to go up against another video game character, and that is Mario. In fact have been a several crossovers for the years. Also Sonic was defined as different from Mario by adding slopes and physics to the math. Mario World is still enirely blocks and straight lines just like Mario 1, 2, and 3. Mario succeeded by following the same standard and adding a twist. Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are all completely different beasts.
I finally figured it out, you see if you replace every time they say sonic with IGN, replace all mentions of the Sonic games with controversial IGN reviews, then you'll see it odly fits

Green Hills Zone is a mistranslation the japanese version says Green Hill Zone plus fun fact Emerald Hill was ment to be Green Hill but it was later changed to emerald hill

4:00-4:26 1st, you missed the sonic rush series on the DS. 2nd, It's kind of debatable now whether or not Adventure and Adventure 2 have aged well. 3rd, Peoples opinion on Heroes, Unleashed, and Lost World are very mixed (People either love them or hate them). Other than that, I completely agree.

As a HUGEEEE sonic fan in the 2010s, this is extremely frustrating. For stupid people, the problem isn’t that they don’t know much about sonic. That’s COMPLETELY okay and valid. Not everyone needs to be a fan to criticise its material. What’s the PROBLEM is, if you don’t know much about the thing you are gonna criticise, you either do your research or you don’t cover it at all. Good criticism is judging the material based on what it is, bad criticism is projecting your biases onto the material. OF COURSE a critic can have their own personal beef with the material, that’s OKAY. But even in those situations a good critic will put those aside and critique the material like how they would for their audience, cause they know that their critiques are very important and they can sway their audience with what they say.

Yes, this is so true. What sucks is that SEGA usually listens to game journalists such as IGN and internet critics over actual sonic fans. This is why so many games during the 2010 were light on story, and had lighthearted tones, and only had Sonic be the only playable character, because game journalists critized prior games for being to "edgy", and being to gimmicky. The success of Sonic Generations would also result in plenty of games moving forward to use nostalgic pandering. The worst part is that none of these big name reviewers never really cared about the franchise to begin with, and weren't concerned about the consequences of their actions. While I do think Sega is definitely responsible for how those games turned out in the 2010s, I definitely think some of the journalists carry a decent fraction of that blame. They had a massive impact on the series, but at what cost?

I chose sonic because he just seems like more of a heroic character. He has personality! When I was little I just saw more of that then in a nintendo character who just says "yahoo" ever so often. I mean at least a "OH YEAH!" sounds a little more hyped. I tried Mario games. They're fun but it's the same thing over again. Sonic has been in a hole for a bit but they keep trying!! With that came games like Sonic Gen. Sonic just appeals to me more.
