She has nearly total creative freedom with her agency--really, the only thing Cube does in the creative process is tell her if an idea is TOO provocative. But yes, that clip also details that Soyeon indeed viewed Marilyn Monroe as the source of inspiration behind the album. As you said, people and history have only seen her as a blonde bombshell, and Soyeon points out that Marilyn was actually a very intelligent woman.
