@@grmpEqweerYeah, exactly. Any group can have bad people in it, but minority groups are statistically going to experience more targeting from bad people than anyone else. For instance, the "correctionary" type of SA doesn't really exist as a threat for hetero cis people.
I recently had to come to terms with the fact that an incident that happened to me years ago was a form of SA. The only person responsible is the individual who did it. Not an entire group of people, and especially not those who had nothing to do with it.

"Female prisoners incarcerated with sex offenders" is such a revealing statement. It implies JKR thinks, on some level, cis women can't be sex offenders or SA other women, that women's prisons are not already SA hellholes due to the social nature of prisons that house either gender, and that the sexual trauma prisoners undergo in men's prisons matters less solely because they were born male. She doesn't care about women, she doesn't care about men, she just cares about hating trans people.
Any time someone asks the BS "So you think trans women who have SAd women should be put in the general population of women's prisons?" my immediate though is... "why the f*** are you talking about prisons all of a sudden?" My second thought is "do you think cis women who have SAd women should be put in the general population of women's prisons?"

Not to mention it is more often than not the Guards who do the sexual assaults/rapes........
Well put!!
Let's STOP acting like XYs aren't the majority of offenders on either gender, cut the crap
Just to state the obvious : many restaurants use genderless single bathrooms and it works greats ; no one complains (if kept clean) or even notices. That said, I do not support the paranoia and unfounded fears behind wanting to stop trans women from going to the women's bathroom where they should be safer. The lack of empathy or sympathy is stark, but still there is a simple solution: single person bathrooms.
Indeed. One- seaters, with a full door. No urinals-or a urinal next to every toilet.
I mean, every single home bathroom is genderless.
The implication that trans people commit crimes at higher rates than cis people is the main issue here. You're more likely to be assaulted by cis people in either bathroom, just by the raw numbers. And I'd wager a guess that even _per capita_ they commit less crimes simply because they're terrified of transphobia or going to jail and being put in a jail of the wrong gender and being assaulted themselves
`Trans women` say they feel safer because they would be away from men. So why should women accept `trans women` (men) into their spaces? This is not a battle you keyboard warriors are going to win, especially with such feeble excuses.

We always worry about the bathroom issue or lockerroom issue without confronting the elephant in the room. Why are bathroom so exposed? I mean, why isn't there a common area with sinks and mirrors and then private bathroom stalls with an actual door and 4 complete walls? Why is it that we accept bathrooms with dividers where anybody can hear your grunting and things plopping into the toilet bowl from the stall next to you?
Likewise with locker rooms, why aren't there private shower stalls and small private changing booths areas for people to undress? Why do we accept having to expose ourselves to other people in a common space just because we are all the same sex? Ask yourself that.
The Alamo Drafthouse has bathrooms which you've described. It's so easy.
I think it was mostly based on another fear, that people would use those spaces for other purposes than what it is intended to: live sleeping, or having intercourse.
That being said, making laws and building public spaces according to some people's unreasonable fears is never a good idea.
Furthermore, instead of making sure nobody can catch a nap in a public space (hostile architecture) why not make living spaces more accessible to the destitute? Because even if it's exactly what Jesus would want, we all know the conservatives only adore the false idol that money represents.
I ask myself that kind of question often, as you can see.
In London gyms and pools, we have mostly open plan locker rooms with just a few cubicles, and in my experience, most women use the open plan. We like the chit chat and having a laugh, and feeling free to be naked with ladies of all ages and sizes. Somebody getting their d*ck out would ruin that. My local pool has a separate gender neutral changing room and it's very nice. That's a great solution.
Most incidents do not even occur in public bathrooms anyway. Since perpetrators tend to know their victims, the vast majority occur in domestic settings. People using public restrooms just want to finish their business and get out.
I agree with you on your main point (many people would benefit from that, not only trans people) but when it comes to the realisation of your suggestion, I think the problem is that it’s not space- nor cost-efficient to build bath-/dressing rooms like that.

Except JKR personally funds a rape crisis centre for women who only want a female counsellor or support group. Which they cannot get at the other centre in her city, because the CEO said rape survivors need re educating and shouldn't even be told the sex of anyone if they ask, then sacked someone who respectfully disagreed and was too cowardly to show up in court to defend their words. Lost thankfully, but still in post. Meanwhile JKR puts her money and time where her mouth is and supports rape survivors.
25% of women have been raped at least in the US. There are a lot of us.

Heck, I'm a trans person who was SAed by a man in locker room. It's literally the story they use to scaremonger about girls like me, except he didn't need to transition in order to get away with it. Turns out SA is about opportunity, not attraction: he was the star basketball player and I was a fat autistic boy who practically lived in the music department and was terrified of people finding out I was gay. I had no idea how transphobic the Labour Party is. damn.
Its the uk and theyd probably do anything for more votes
The labour party purged the left. They're just right wing now. Their leadership are transphobes and the new PM is complicit in the genocide in Palestine. He managed the latter while leader of the opposition. I hate this stupid, grey little island so much.
Not the Labour Party, but some of the people in it, who are unfortunately in charge.
@berniethekiwidragon4382 thank you for bringing that to my attention I shouldn't have made it a blanket statement.
The current administration of the labour party is...demoralisingly transphobic, yes. If I'm being totally honest with myself, I genuinely believe that Starmer is simply enough of a slimy political opportunist to throw them under the bus for extra votes more than anything. Which is a condemnation, not a defence, but does at least mean if there's enough popular support he'll fold like soggy paper because he has no actual values behind...anything he does.
They are, at least, likely to be non-supportive of trans rights though, whereas the prominent hatemongers of the conservative party were talking like they were going to criminalise anything so much as resembling cross dressing.
Worth noting those people have a long history of bold, hateful statements with very little follow through.
But I'd still prefer labour's scorn and apathy towards trans rights over the conservatives active attempts to rally pitchfork wielding mobs.

I always end up thinking to my self, Im sure the statistics would show something like 99.9% of assaults committed in bathrooms are done by cisgender people, clearly its cis people who should be banned from using public bathrooms.
Its also silly to think that someone willing and capable of assaulting someone else in a bathroom would be deterred or hindered by any discrimatory law. A person who wants to assault people in bathrooms doesn't need to pretend to be a different gender to be capable of committing those acts.

I never understood why this conflation of personality with gender came into play..
@lannynavitka
Because males and females are varied. There doesn't have to be a different gender label for every personality type. There are women who are tomboys and men who are effeminate but it doesn't mean they're any less female or male. Gender and personality keep getting conflated.

Something else that would be useful to bring up in this discussion: a large majority of trans and gender-diverse people are themselves survivors of rape and sexual assault, and a disturbingly large number are also the survivors of just regular-old assault and even murder attempts. (What other identity's public disclosure similarly increases one's chances of being murdered? I can't think of any that are even close.) The statistics on one-in-four women (last I heard...perhaps it is actually higher than that, very sadly) being survivors of rape and sexual assault is an ongoing horror story; but trans and gender-diverse people--though their numbers are tiny in terms of total population--have a much higher percentage than that. Of the trans and gender diverse people I know locally, around 60% of us are survivors.
Saying anyone who is pro-trans and pro-gender-diverse people simply existing and living their lives is an offense to rape survivors is, itself, an offense to rape survivors, because WE ARE ALSO SURVIVORS.
I'm a transwoman living in the UK and it's frightening to step out my front door to work everyday. I've had abuse almost everyday from verbal, to physical (including being spat on) to out right threats on my life. And a lot of the cause is the highly publicised words from the likes of JKR.

I find the "TraNs WoMEn iN WomEN's bAThROoM iS DaNgERoUs" bit really whack, I mean just like transphobic rhetoric in general, but this one is especially confusing. According to Rowling's logic, they're endangered too because they're women in men's bathroom (I won't talk about the misandry, but it's here) but she does not seem to care about them, I guess they don't count for her...
Probably anything happens to trans men it's "their fault" for "choosing" to be men in her eyes.
Transmen existing ruins their narrative.
