- Police searching for missing teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife are appealing for expert volunteers to help with a “massive search” on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation on June 17.
On Friday, the Guardia Civil appealed for volunteer associations, such as firefighters, and individual volunteers who were experts in rugged terrain to assist in a “busqueda masiva”, or massive search, to take place on Saturday.
The Spanish police force said the search, which will begin at 9am in the village of Masca, near to his last-known location, would be coordinated to take in a steep rocky area, including ravines, trails and paths.
The announcement came as searches for the apprentice bricklayer entered a 12th day.
Mr Slater attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and his last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island - which was about an 11 hour walk from his accommodation.
On Friday, Mr Slater’s friend Brad Hargreaves told ITV’s This Morning he had been on a video call with him before his disappearance when he heard him go off the road.
He said: “He was on the phone walking down a road and he’d gone over a little bit - not a big drop - but a tiny little drop and he was going down, and he said ‘I’ll ring ya back, I’ll ring ya back’ because I think someone else was ringing him.”
He confirmed he could see his friend’s feet “sliding” down the hill and could hear he was walking on gravel.
But, Mr Hargreaves said he and his friend were both laughing at that point.
He added: “He didn’t seem concerned on the phone until we knew how far away he was.”
He told the programme he still had hope for Mr Slater and was “praying” for him to come home.

I love how the media keep talking about social media and the conspiracy theories but then do the exact same thing. Why do they think they are any different?

I went to Greece and am certain I witnessed trafficking on a flight with the baby's screams ignored by flight staff calling for ger mummy in her apparent mummys arms. It horrified me and onlookers and our complaints went ignored so we directly asked the so called mum and sad who couldn't gave been the parents with the 2 years old screaming and reaching out in the air calling out for her mummy in fits of tears. The parents,' were rude and hostile to us complaining insisting they were mum and dad but she didn't settle with them. I even recorded a bit. She looked Greek and they looked Eastern European. That was traumatic to watch but rhe airline staff wouldn't act upon it.
It's possible the trafficking as Greece is full of posters at airports like Rhodes and Santorini about missing babies and toddlers.

As bad as it is what they did, they were all teenagers. It's easy to succumb to group mentality and doing things to fit in at that age. Tom himself is no angel, he mugged an old woman amongst other crimes (rumoured to be the reason for the attack). Also Jay wasn't the main perpetrator; "Jay Slater, who was 16 at the time of the incident, was said by witnesses to be 'on the periphery' of the attack". We don't know if Jay himself used a weapon or not.

This is a drug deal gone wrong. The two men were not at that rave, they met Jay that morning in a bar and again at the end of the night when the rave was finished. What does that tell you? He went and met them for drugs to sell at the rave and they went there at 4am to collect the money and the unsold drugs and they took him when he didn't have them. What other explanation is there for meeting in the morning and again in the early hours after the rave? The rumour that he lost the drugs and was taken for that reason seems a lot more likely than him being lost and dehydrated within only 15 mins of being spotted walking towards the park and making that call to Lucy. He's never going to be found, he's in the water.

The two men couldn´t kill him and take his corpse to the sea... there is no time... Where did they kill him? At the Airbnb? Impossible. Guardia Civil searched the apartment....and we also have the witness and the two phone. It is true that one cannot explain what he did with those two men... but it is clear that they did not kill him.

I live near Masca and I am tired of the rubbish around this story. Firstly I hear crap about how the temp. deops to 1 degree at night, minimum at this time of year is approx. 17 degrees. I find it amazing how much he used his phone from 8am with only 1% battery life remaining. I have seen the helicopter up this morning and that costs £2000 per hour.

Sorry but there are thousands of people who go missing every year under mysterious circumstances but we don’t get to hear about them much so why is the media obsessed with this case? I live in Spain and I can tell you if someone goes missing they do an appeal to the public. There have been many cases here where the parents will be at the press conference and family appealing to the public. I live in mainland Spain and it certainly is the case here
I don’t care what happens to him after finding out the type of person he is.
He rang his girlfriend at 8am in the morning after leaving a nearby airbnb. He had been taken there by two complete strangers in the early hours following a party. What I find strange is how could he be thirsty so early in the morning shortly after leaving the airbnb. Surely there was taps there or bottled water. He supposedly missed the bus but instead of waiting for the next one decided to walk the 10kms through rough terrain dressed only in shorts and teeshirt, a phone with 1% battery power and zero water. It simply does not add up. Who in their right mind drives off with two complete strangers without telling his "friends" to the other side of Tenerife. How come they did not offer him a lift back knowing he missed the bus??? Who are these two"strangers". There is more to this story than meets the eye.

He called Lucy at 8.30 and the last sighting was of him walking towards the park by the woman who also lived in the air b&b. Not a chance he could be lost and dehydrated in 15 minutes, he would have barely entered the park by half past 8 and could easily have just turned around and gone back the way he came. It's all lies he was never there and the witness who drove past him could easily be a friend or associate of these two men so neither Lucy or this person can be considered credible witnesses. He was never there.
How could he tell Lucy he had missed the bus when he alledgelly called her at 8 hrs,when bus time was at 10 according to the lady eye witness.

We know which house he went to. Let's say he walked off road at possibly 2-3mph, he was dehydrated so couldn't possibly have walked more than 10miles. With half the area being water that's less than 40mile² area to search that's not very overgrown. A single person searching over the time and distance would have found him. A drone would have found him.

At today's press conference, Spanish detectives made it crystal clear that the two men have been spoken to and they are "not in any way relevant to the case".
Your question "did they pass Jay on the way back to the Airport?" is really, really silly if you stop and think about it. Jay left their house on Monday morning. The two men left Tenerife on Tuesday.
British detectives have a great reputation .....get the same ones that helped the mccanns

Can I ask what the evidence is supporting any of these theories of foul play? This is the first I’m hearing of it, I don’t understand why people find it so implausible that a young man, possibly under the influence a lot of the weekend might make bad decisions? That people totally unprepared to hike in a large, remote, rugged terrain area, in a hot climate, particularly the morning after said weekend of partying might well get lost, into difficulty, injure themselves and not make it out?
The report of the call about being lost, no water and 1% battery was his girlfriend at home if I’m not mistaken? Why would she lie about that, why would he, and is she supposed to be involved in the conspiracy to cover up a murder?
Where has this 17k bag of drugs info come from? Going off with strangers to the other side (not quite) of the island is strange but seem entirely likely to me he made some friends, went back for some afters, maybe drug motivated what have you, then the next morning they’re less willing to help get him back by car so he tries to go himself.
The idea that he would miss a bus (at 8 in the morning, surely the first bus not the last) and then try to walk all the way back to the other side of the island suggests he had no idea what he was doing, or quite where he was anyway.
Maybe there’s genuine sources of information backing up this foul play aspect but I haven’t seen any thing other than this speculation.
If it’s so clear that a middle aged, specifically fitness conscious, doctor could get into difficulty in a similar situation and die, why is it so hard to believe that a young, less prepared man could?

Convicted of violent disorder in August 2023, when he was aged 18. He is now 19. His codefendants were found guilty of witness intimidation, attempted robbery and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
Throughout a trial at Preston Crown Court, all eight laughed and joked in a way the judge said showed disrespect. The judge said if the group had been convicted of the more serious charge of section 18 wounding, they would all have gone to youth custody.

His Mum said she has it he left it in his accommodation. She said that is how she knows he hasn’t left Tenerife as you can’t leave without a passport. I am not sure if the police have checked she has it I would have thought so.

she is. Her statement makes no sense. She said he called at 8.30 and then 5 mins later said 8am. His phone was at 1% and he was able to send a snapshot and tell her he was injured, while she advised him on what to do next. According to her the phone dies as they were talking. Oddly, his phones last ping was at 8.50am and turned off. She expects us to believe that call lasted for over 20 mins on 1%.

The strangest part of this story is why two guys in their 30s took a 19 yr old boy back to their accommodation. Why are the friends not addressing this and shutting the speculation down? I want to know which model phone, running on a UK service plan, can make a video call when it is down to one percent battery, up in some remote mountain location with no phone masts, whilst laughing off extortionate international roaming tariff charges; because I want one one, it sounds like an amazing bit of kit. Most phones couldn't pull that off with the battery fully charged.

If the drug sale scenario is true, those two black men might have been sent to the club to lure Jay away so that the drug dealers could handle him by morning. Maybe that was the plan, to get Jay to a place where those associates met up with him, and took care of business. The two black men are possibly regulars to the island and work for those associates that Jay was dealing with.

Why would his mother use that 40 k donations to fund the continued search of the wilderness, presumeably she's accepted he's lying dead on the mountain. When I visited Tenerife in 2019, we met merchants from Morocco, that get transported to Tenerife by supply ships. They even have a van that is kept on the island thatvis loaded up with merchandise to sell to the shops and tourist. These merchants than return back to the ship to return to Morocco before nightfall. I am certain that the drug pushers are doing the same. They come by ship to drop off, and leave with the ship after their business is done. The two men with the British accent are possibly regulars that visit the island and are involved with the assoscites that Jay and Lucy might have been involved with. If the rumors are true, that's possibly how those two black men are involved but keep a low profile as to not be caught associating with the drug mules.
