- Police searching for missing teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife are appealing for expert volunteers to help with a “massive search” on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation on June 17.
On Friday, the Guardia Civil appealed for volunteer associations, such as firefighters, and individual volunteers who were experts in rugged terrain to assist in a “busqueda masiva”, or massive search, to take place on Saturday.
The Spanish police force said the search, which will begin at 9am in the village of Masca, near to his last-known location, would be coordinated to take in a steep rocky area, including ravines, trails and paths.
The announcement came as searches for the apprentice bricklayer entered a 12th day.
Mr Slater attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and his last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island - which was about an 11 hour walk from his accommodation.
On Friday, Mr Slater’s friend Brad Hargreaves told ITV’s This Morning he had been on a video call with him before his disappearance when he heard him go off the road.
He said: “He was on the phone walking down a road and he’d gone over a little bit - not a big drop - but a tiny little drop and he was going down, and he said ‘I’ll ring ya back, I’ll ring ya back’ because I think someone else was ringing him.”
He confirmed he could see his friend’s feet “sliding” down the hill and could hear he was walking on gravel.
But, Mr Hargreaves said he and his friend were both laughing at that point.
He added: “He didn’t seem concerned on the phone until we knew how far away he was.”
He told the programme he still had hope for Mr Slater and was “praying” for him to come home.

There's NO evidence whatsoever that he's involved in drugs!!! Don't jump to conclusions without all the facts. We don't know anything about the assault charge either, he could of been defending a friend or family member which got out of hand, especially if they were drunk.
Thankyou for separating the drug angle from the other outlandish theories and treating it as the very credible explanation it is. It’s not something that just happens in movies, it happens every day and involves everyday people like Jay and Lucy especially on party islands. Anyone who thinks the drug angle is far fetched is either ignorant or blinkered.

As bad as it is what they did, they were all teenagers. It's easy to succumb to group mentality and doing things to fit in at that age. Tom himself is no angel, he mugged an old woman amongst other crimes (rumoured to be the reason for the attack). Also Jay wasn't the main perpetrator; "Jay Slater, who was 16 at the time of the incident, was said by witnesses to be 'on the periphery' of the attack". We don't know if Jay himself used a weapon or not.
You only vanish for two reasons. Either yourself doesn't want to be found or someone else doesn't want you found....

I went to Greece and am certain I witnessed trafficking on a flight with the baby's screams ignored by flight staff calling for ger mummy in her apparent mummys arms. It horrified me and onlookers and our complaints went ignored so we directly asked the so called mum and sad who couldn't gave been the parents with the 2 years old screaming and reaching out in the air calling out for her mummy in fits of tears. The parents,' were rude and hostile to us complaining insisting they were mum and dad but she didn't settle with them. I even recorded a bit. She looked Greek and they looked Eastern European. That was traumatic to watch but rhe airline staff wouldn't act upon it.
It's possible the trafficking as Greece is full of posters at airports like Rhodes and Santorini about missing babies and toddlers.

I live near Masca and I am tired of the rubbish around this story. Firstly I hear crap about how the temp. deops to 1 degree at night, minimum at this time of year is approx. 17 degrees. I find it amazing how much he used his phone from 8am with only 1% battery life remaining. I have seen the helicopter up this morning and that costs £2000 per hour.

I’m sick of being bombarded with photos, news articles, TV discussions etc about this young man. Sorry but there are thousands of people who go missing every year under mysterious circumstances but we don’t get to hear about them much so why is the media obsessed with this case? He rang his girlfriend at 8am in the morning after leaving a nearby airbnb. He had been taken there by two complete strangers in the early hours following a party. What I find strange is how could he be thirsty so early in the morning shortly after leaving the airbnb. Surely there was taps there or bottled water. He supposedly missed the bus but instead of waiting for the next one decided to walk the 10kms through rough terrain dressed only in shorts and teeshirt, a phone with 1% battery power and zero water. It simply does not add up. Who in their right mind drives off with two complete strangers without telling his "friends" to the other side of Tenerife. How come they did not offer him a lift back knowing he missed the bus??? Who are these two"strangers". There is more to this story than meets the eye.

This is a drug deal gone wrong. The two men were not at that rave, they met Jay that morning in a bar and again at the end of the night when the rave was finished. What does that tell you? He went and met them for drugs to sell at the rave and they went there at 4am to collect the money and the unsold drugs and they took him when he didn't have them. What other explanation is there for meeting in the morning and again in the early hours after the rave? The rumour that he lost the drugs and was taken for that reason seems a lot more likely than him being lost and dehydrated within only 15 mins of being spotted walking towards the park and making that call to Lucy. He's never going to be found, he's in the water.

Guardia Civil searched the apartment....and we also have the witness and the two phone. It is true that one cannot explain what he did with those two men... but it is clear that they did not kill him.

she is. Her statement makes no sense. She said he called at 8.30 and then 5 mins later said 8am. His phone was at 1% and he was able to send a snapshot and tell her he was injured, while she advised him on what to do next. According to her the phone dies as they were talking. Oddly, his phones last ping was at 8.50am and turned off. She expects us to believe that call lasted for over 20 mins on 1%.

And Lucy configured it so that it benefits Jay's mother - not Lucy herself. In this situation it is obvious that Jay's mother (and Lucy) will need financial help to travel to Tenerife (in the case of the mother) and to prolong her stay in Tenerife (in the case of Lucy). And it is obvious, if someone is missing for over two days in baking heat, that funds will be required for medical care/medivac (best case scenario) or repatriating a body (worst case scenario). Lucy has set out all the known details of Jay's disappearance, and given people who wish to donate an avenue to do so. After that it's up to people to donate if they so wish.

The strangest part of this story is why two guys in their 30s took a 19 yr old boy back to their accommodation. Why are the friends not addressing this and shutting the speculation down? As for the fund, that's nobody's business, people aren't forced to contribute and the family can spend it as they see fit. Plenty of young people get into trouble and go on to live perfectly respectable lives so we need to stop the thug nonsense, the "victim" has a huge record of offending too, no angel and I'm not suggesting he deserved such a vicious beating. We know which house he went to. Let's say he walked off road at possibly 2-3mph, he was dehydrated so couldn't possibly have walked more than 10miles. With half the area being water that's less than 40mile² area to search that's not very overgrown. A single person searching over the time and distance would have found him. A drone would have found him.

At today's press conference, Spanish detectives made it crystal clear that the two men have been spoken to and they are "not in any way relevant to the case".
Your question "did they pass Jay on the way back to the Airport?" is really, really silly if you stop and think about it. Jay left their house on Monday morning. The two men left Tenerife on Tuesday.

His Mum said she has it he left it in his accommodation. She said that is how she knows he hasn’t left Tenerife as you can’t leave without a passport. I am not sure if the police have checked she has it I would have thought so.

Convicted of violent disorder in August 2023, when he was aged 18. He is now 19. His codefendants were found guilty of witness intimidation, attempted robbery and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
Throughout a trial at Preston Crown Court, all eight laughed and joked in a way the judge said showed disrespect. The judge said if the group had been convicted of the more serious charge of section 18 wounding, they would all have gone to youth custody.
Tom Hilton, who was 17 at the time of the attack, suffered a head injury so serious his skull was exposed, and wounds to his shoulders and legs in the attack close to the Old Paper Mill in Hermitage Street, Rishton, in August 2021.

She said his phone was on 1% and in that time he was able to give her a snapshot of his location, tell her he was injured, and she advised him on what to do next. She said the phone died while they were talking, yet his phone last pinged and was switched off at 8.50am. Are we expected to believe their conversation lasted for 20 mins to an hour on 1%? who is lying?

I live in Spain and I can tell you if someone goes missing they do an appeal to the public. There have been many cases here where the parents will be at the press conference and family appealing to the public. I live in mainland Spain and it certainly is the case here
The men were not British, per say. They were two black men with a British accent. Why would Jay go off with two total strangers, and then these men allow him to leave, and find his own way back to his traveling companions. If they wanted to harm Jay, they would have done it while Jay was in their company.
