VR is the ONLY way to go for flight simulator.
True can't go back
How true it is! And a Pimax crystal will be delivered any day now, so I'm hopeful for an improvement over my G2.
@@donc9751you should love the Crystal. The sweet spot is much larger and the resolution is as good as the Aero. As long as your computer can handle it you will have a serious upgrade.
I've been running the G2 since it launched. Thinking of upgrading to the new big screen VR set. Seems like it is leaps over the G2 and barely bigger than a pair of glasses
@srbarlow Thank you for the info! That's my concern as well. My PC (2 years old now) specs are i7-10700K, 32gb ram, 4080 and nvme drives.
Not top specs but I'm thinking even if it won't be able to max out settings and get high fps, even scaled down some it has to be way better than what I've been seeing thru my G2.
My cpu I think will be the limiting factor but I'll know soon enough.
It was great to hear your personal stories while in the military along with your actual experience flying the airplane being reviewed.
Agree! Thanks a lot!
Generally love your videos, but this one in particular was great. Thanks for sharing.
It's always such a pleasure to watch your videos Russ. Thanks for sharing not only the interesting topics you cover in your videos but also your vast experience from the aviation world with all of us!
Awesome job!!!! Great video......Bronco one of my favorites!!!! Thanks
OV-10 is a SUPER cool plane! Perfect for a rich couple. Plenty of space in the back for bags.
Loved hearing stories the stories of your time in West Germany. I was at Rhein Main {87-89}. Knew a couple people who were stationed @ Sembach.
Having a review by someone with experience in the actual aircraft take it to another level... Awesome, thanks for sharing with us.
It is a great addon, much superior to many payware in the market. Thanks to Ariebaba for this great Bronco.
Ive always thought this was a pretty cool plane. Who better to learn about it than from a former pilot of one!!!
Thanks for doing this review and for your great comparison between the real deal and this developers version of it! Thanks also for your service!
Hey Russ, kinda off topic. I recently upgraded to XP12 and after a few adjustments was running at around 32FPS. I loaded up Air Manager Beta, got all that working with a couple of touch screens(seperate networked computer) but I lost 10-12 FPM. I can uncheck the Air Plugin in the plugin manager and instantly get back the FPM's. Your thoughts? Thanks
great video and insight from a Bronco pilot! subbed as well..And Thank You for Your Service !
Hi Russ, great video as usual. Thanks for sharing stories about your aviation career. Always interesting.
Hi. Thank you for your amazing video and your service. I always wanted to fly this plane when I was young. but by the time I joined the Navy, they were transferred to the Marines. I wanted to also point out that your video was just the right length and touched all the important points to discuss about this MSFS add on with the added benefit of having you an actual "Bronco" pilot simulate a real typical flight. I too thanks the developers for doing a great job and hope they listen to your suggestions to make a great product awesome.
Russ, thanks for the thorough review, and special thanks for sharing some memories of your time serving in Germany.
Very nice tour of the aircraft and the town!
Russ, this was a fun trip down memory lane. Your picture suggests you've little changed since '80. I'm gobsmacked by the realism, true to experience, both inside the aircraft and outside. So real you've probably gotten some virtual noise complaints from villagers in Otterberg. We were just visiting Sembach three months ago and the flight line is as depicted. Thanks for this flashback; well done.
Hope you and Pam are well. Great to hear from you. I shared this video with Greg Brooks who found me on UA-cam. Never thought of sharing it with old squadron mates. Guess I felt a bit embarrassed that after a 23000+ hr flying career I still have fun playing with home flight simulation.
Love your post and history Russ. I visited Germany in 85 as a Grunt. (Australian Grunt) I wonder how close our paths may have crossed. I transferred to Aircraft Fitter (mechanic) and these were my best times. There's truly nothing like military aircraft. I did get the check UH-1H Collective, Cyclic and pedals for vibration more than once. When I see your vids I truly get the urge for MSFS, I just need my son to help me with that one.
Cheers Russ, stay safe.
That was a wonderful overview! Hopefully, the developer will include your suggestions as time goes on. Happily, you have a volume control in the sim.
Yes it is a noisy airplane but today with noise cancelling headsets it would be better I think
Awesome presentation !!! great video
Thanks much Sir, excellent rundown! Somewhat familiar with aircraft; Da Nang, Vietnam F-4C,D,E & HQ USAF Ramstein AB as command propulsion MSET person. Very impressive acft, watched them workout first hand at Da Nang, we appreciated what they did. Love flying in VR, what a view! Thanks again, nothing like real pilot review. Byway, was on board USAF Commander’s acft right after F4 mishap you talked about, we made two passes to review mishap.
Yes and actually as I recall one of the pilots failed to punch out but for some reason I didn’t mention that in the video.
When were you in Da Nang? My grandfather flew the Bronco in 1972
Tnx Russ, for another great Video
very INTERESTING THANK YOU
Nice video and stories. Curious about the power and condition levers, are there any detents or lift mechanisms for the shutoff, reverse positions to avoid engage by accident? For example, in the C208 Caravan, we have to lift the fingerlift in order to get into the beta range, and detents for feathering and cutoff too which are similar to those on the flaps.
I love these personal stories. Backed up by the visuals it almost feels if you were there to see it. The way you're just casually flying there, finding your way around VFR, it is almost as if you still do it on a daily basis. Great video.
A Good Presentation And Review . (8 )
Thank you for your service! Always look forward to your content.
Great video Russ! A few years after you arrived in Germany, I arrived at my first assignment as a FAC in Alaska. Flew the O-2 then the squadron (25 TASS) converted to OVs. Yes, I was one of those first assignment FACs you spoke of 😃 Everything you said about the FAC assignment was spot on. The best time I ever had in my 40 years of flying!
Great to hear from a fellow Bronco FAC! I really enjoyed sitting in the Bronco even if only in VR. Hope you were rewarded with a great aircraft assignment after your FAC assignment
My previous comment was deleted. You would be an excellent SME/test pilot for AzurPoly’s payware OV-10.
I’m on the beta test team
@@rbarlow Awesome. I’m not surprised. If anyone knows what’s going on in the world of MSFS it’s you! I’ll be beta testing for them as well. Really enjoy your channel Russ!
Cheers, Russ...FYI to the DCS fans: there's an OV-10 addon you can find on the DCS forums which is quite good. OV10 is a great bird and easy to fly.
I will try it. I found XP and MSFS enough challenge to keep running well but I know I would like DCS too.
An in my opinion, they never should have been retired. It would today make such a great COIN aircraft in the modern airspace.
If the B52’s are still flying I agree that with some avionics and engine upgrades they could still be effective…. as they are today with Cal Fire
I really enjoyed this video although came to it late! Would be great to see what you make of the new Azurpoly OV10 that’s about to be released.
I have a AZP OV-10 review premiering later today ua-cam.com/video/nG8sq0LYxZY/v-deo.html
Hopefully the devs will work on fixing the issues you mentioned to make it more realistic. It'd be great if every dev went as far as Blackbird and Flyingiron but this is pretty good for a free aircraft.
I neglected to say in the review that I had to decrease the pitch control sensitivity to about half to make it fly fairly accurately. The eve Atkin was way too touchy using my Honeycomb Bravo.
Immense pleasure to hear to your stories. Thanks for sharing! Quality content
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing your insight into this really cool aircraft. As a Marine I saw guys falling out the back of them as they came low and pulled up while guys fell out the back. I was told there was no need for a reserve chute. On a sim thought, didn't another developer AzurePoly have an OV-10 in dev? In the sneak peek they show the sponsions that you said were missing from this offering. Just a thought as I have been waiting for a Bronco to escape the corral. Thanks again Russ!
You can add the sponsons on the acft configuration file but it was not standard on the USAF livery included
I will be beta testing the AzurePoly version so watch for a review
@@rbarlow I will be watching for your review on the AzurePoly Bronco. If it has a prop and scratched up paint I’m interested
Nice Job Russ, thanks for taking the time. You're the first reviewer I've seen to correctly explain the Condition Levers. I'm a retired Marine with about 3,000 hours in the OV-10A and a Vietnam tour in the YOV-10D NOGS. The USN/USMC cockpit it just a little different. We had a smaller fire warning light but no fire bottles hence no Engine Fire Handle to pull. We didn't have VHF Com or VHF Nav. There was a Radar Altimeter in the place of the ILS head.
I appreciate that. I remember wgen I got assigned to the OV-10 feeling sorry for myself but in retrospect it was a great experience. Of course I was in Germany and not Vietnam. Thanks for your service in harms way... I had a cush job.
You must have been in the Delta VI Corp AO during your VN tour. The UASF's Broncos were primarily in the central II Corp AO and the I Corp AO. Thank you for your service.
Ever been to the Colman Army Air base?
Yes not far from Sembach in Gelnhausen…. Landed there a few times
I bet the developers never expected a real OV10 pilot to be trying out their efforts, very enlightening...................................................
Hi Russ will you be doing a video on yor laptop ?
As soon as I complete the video on my toaster which is well underway. Patience.
Really enjoyed hearing your personal stories about the OV-10. It is incredible that you can find the house you lived in and see the reclaimed airfield you flew out of. These are indeed remarkable times! Always great content, Russ. Thanks for sharing!
Finally had the time and opportunity to watch this video to the end. As others already said, having a chance to come along with you like this and share your memories was truly great. Must be so cool for you being able to almost "go back in time" like this and get the chance to experience all this even when only virtually 🙂
Another good video. I suspect the Developers will be delighted to watch this, and will act upon your comments to perfect an already good model.
Thanks Russ, great informative video. Always good to have someone who has really flown the aircraft to do the review.
Fantastic to get a real perspective of the actual aircraft and your life experiences too. Thanks for posting not too long at all!
HI Russ and greetings from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just an observation…and I’d appreciate your take on this, but it seams like there is way more attention to MSFS than XP12…at least from what I can see on UA-cam. As a retired full scale commercial pilot myself, I’ve “grown up” on XP given the ‘assumption’ that the flight modeling is more attentive to full scale realism vs pretty scenery. Therefore my question: Should I abandon my loyalty to XP and purchase and ‘fly’ MSFS to experience what it has to offer over XP? Appreciate your thoughts…and thank you for your contributions to our flight sim community. Best, Randy
At the start of the video I had the nagging suspicion that I knew that landscape, probably because of the Humbergturm on the horizon- twenty seconds in I said to myself, "That looks like the Möbel Martin by the A6/A63 interchange" and had no doubt.
Well, I just loved your video here. As a fan of Cold War history, the Ramstein/KL area, and the OV-10 this video lands in a very specific sweet spot for me. Hearing your commentary on the sim model vs your real life experience in things like startup procedures and aircraft handling was great and I really enjoyed hearing about the Bronco squadron at Sembach.
@@bergmanf glad you enjoyed it. I also did a review video on the AzurPoly OV-10 which is much better modeled and truer to the actual airplane. I helped beta test that airplane. If interested see:
