For those people that are worried about parallel, offset back, alley dock, etc., I have a little advice. I tested yesterday morning, passed first try. I honestly didn't think I was where I needed to be to pass. When practicing in the yard, I sucked at keeping that truck in the cones and felt like everyone else was getting it and I just couldn't. The day and night before I tested was absolutely the most stressful 36 hours of my life. I was so spun, my anxiety was causing me physical pain. Tried to get my instructor to postpone my testing date, but he said everyone in class had to test the same day. Morning of testing, got to DMV and calmed down. I realized that at that point, there was nothing left to worry about. I was as ready as I was gonna be and stressing about things would add zero benefit, only detriment. I breezed through ABS and Pre-Trip, because I'd studied and knew it well. Got out on the pad at DMV and nailed every skill, accruing zero points. That tractor trailer seemed to slip in, right where I needed it to go. Had a couple hiccups on the road, but ended up passing. I definitely feel a big sense of accomplishment, as anybody who sticks it out and persists will, not if but when they pass. I'm not gonna tell anybody not to stress or have anxiety about your road/skills test, it isn't realistic. Know your pre-trip and ABS front to back, go out there and just do your best. Even if you don't pass immediately, don't let your mind spin out of control because it isn't the end of the world. Just go back and work on whatever you need to. If I can do it, anybody can. Best of luck to everyone pursuing their CDL.
Thanks for the positive words....I test tomorrow and I am super nervous. I can perform on the yard but when it time to test and the clip board comes out I fold. I will take your energy tomorrow as my mindset and nail it.
Thanks for posting... I was doing great on parallels until the week of my test then i couldn't seem to get them for the life of me. This video helped refresh my memory... Got my CDL last Thursday!
Thank uuuuuuuuu!! Today I passed my test! All thanks to this video. I payed for a driving school but they didn't show me how to park. I literally parked for the first during the test, I was able to pull it off thanks to you!
For this exercise there is 5 steps. First keep your tractor and trailer straight.. Then align the trailer to the first cone about 3 feet away from trailer tire. Then make a hard right look for second landing gear leg on your mirror. After that hard left to straight the tractor and trailer. Once straight backup until you see 2nd cone edge. G.o.a.l. after is aligned. and straight.hard left until you see 2nd landing gear. Now hard right to straight the tractor and trailer. Once straight. Boom you inside the box. G.o.a.l to make any final adjustments. Remember those 5 steps Right+left+straight+left+right. Hope it will help you.
We was all Stressed for the road test I literally froze up😂 But knowing how to back up a Semi- tractor truck in 4 weeks is unrealistic esp. if your in a big class! And the instructors know that, so Thank God when i did freeze up they told me to turn left turn right until i got it in there! And half of the was Asshole but the help get them cdl's 🎉 3 years later 45 state cover i-40 ryder
Ahhh! I got my class B with tanker endorsement about a year ago I remember a lot about my pre trips so nothing to worry about there, I have also been driving for a while now probably about a month, and today was my second day practicing my maneuvers. I’ll be scheduling my road test for my class A soon.
I found the karate kid method works to remember parallel. 😄 For drivers side parallel you begin with Wax off to start backing. I kept going the wrong direction and not remembering which way to turn to finish. I was able to think about parallel parking in this way. The finishing move for drivers side parallel is Wax on. For passenger side parallel its opposite. May sound stupid, but it worked for me.
In my years of driving I have only had to parallel park once. They don’t even train or test for it where I live. Though it was the easiest back I’ve ever done. 90 degree or 45 degree is what I use every time. If you can do those to, you should be set!
Really hard to hear but it's a skill you only need to pass the test. Alley dock is waaaayyyy more common and wasn't even required on my KY test. Have to parallel maybe once every 3 months. Alley dock is daily.
Hmm, it's helpful having this drone's eye view, but that's not what we see from behind the wheel. It's difficult to gauge these angles and distances early enough to make corrections easily from the drivers seat.
In reverse: Cone between bumper and rear tandem... then hard left... see middle of landing gear in right convex mirror ... then hard right... see 2 cones and straighten tractor and trailer... go straight back... until white line between rear tandem wheels... then hard right.... until rear drive axle tire touches white line ... then hard left until in box... then pull forward and straighten out
When you say to turn your wheels ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT after your back wheels where the box, do you mean turn it back one wheel turn so that you take back the one left town or all the way into the wheels lock
My question is: When you have to hit that "3 foot" section on the 90 degree alley docking, and only have 2 GOAL, what is the best way to not be short or go over? I was told it is 10 point against you if you do. I was also told that you can not walk it out with your feet to know the distance and if you do that when you get back in the truck it might be a fail. Any help on this please!
I think it really depends on the type of work you’re looking for. At the company I work for we offload the truck and have to position ourself to line up towards or near the back door of fast food restaurants. The parking lots and restaurants are not always built to be semi truck friendly. Knowing how to maneuver in tight spaces can definitely come in handy.
When I take my CDL. If am doing one of the parking testing and I look out the window to see the external position of my truck, does that count as looks? I wont change seat or step out of the truck.
I teach that when I have the center cone in my right mirror. Keeping it in site till my rear outside rt tire comes to the line ... STOP. turn the wheel left toward the box. Rear outside rt drive tire to the line ( not on it .not past it) turn rt. PASS
Seems like everyone just pulls a license out from under they azz after watching a youtube video lol I did my first offset back today, trainer yelled & screamed for not stopping before turning the wheel. Usually end up doing a pull up every time cause of it. That normal?
Turn the wheel all the way right, find the middle of the landing gear, straighten your wheels, get a 60 degree angle and follow it in the cones making small adjustments, turn left for wider, right for closer, get it in and straighten your tractor.
@@val_gatalski , it depends on numerous factors such as company type/size, if you drive a dump trailer for instance using class B, or if you're Owner-Operator... The money can be as good with class B, and you get to sleep in your bed pretty much every night...

For me, for some reason, this was the simplest manuever. Got blindside parallel on my test and nailed it ! Haven't done it since though, lol.
What’s more simple than straight line backing 😂🤣

Looking at the landing gear. Never knew, or was told that, I’m gonna try this in the yard today

Wrong . First off this is to the left so first is hard right then after backing it's hard left ( to the box) then hard right to straighten up .
Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Failed first test with this manuver hoping for better luck next time
When you say to turn your wheels ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT after your back wheels where the box, do you mean turn it back one wheel turn so that you take back the one left town or all the way into the wheels lock
I think he just means get to the point to straighten up.
I noticed it's is an old comment pls lmk if I'm wrong

I'm struggling with this right now and I test next week 😫
I like these videos. Great info and everything is explained in good detail but the sound is very quiet and can hard hear it.

Never even had to do this
When you say a full turn while turning do you mean just a full circle turn ? Or turn the wheel all the way till it stops?
Do you have these with just the tractor?
I can’t even parallel park my car
lol

Yooooo don’t give up you can do it

How did it went ?? My boyfriend is stressing out because of this maneuver he got everything except this He failed 2nd time now too 🙁

Turn the wheel all the way right, find the middle of the landing gear, straighten your wheels, get a 60 degree angle and follow it in the cones making small adjustments, turn left for wider, right for closer, get it in and straighten your tractor.
