- Big thanks to @johnpickk7526 for a lot of the help with testing and who first got me thinking about this!
Hey everyone,
Todays video is a bit different as I believe I have finally found the 'secret' of the RFUS intro tone from Nirvana's 'In Utero', watch the video and see for yourself! Be sure to stick around at the end for some extra demos :)
Thanks for watching! - Розваги
This is one of the few, if not the only one, that plays Radio Friendly Unit Shifter very accurately to the original song.
I bought a Polychorus back around 2006-2007 (big box). Of course being a Nirvana fan was a big factor but this is absolutely the best Chorus pedal I've ever used. It's a big footprint but it's got a permanent home on my board.
Nice! I’ve owned the smaller XO version and have a big box currently but will probably sell it. I just much prefer how the original units / Dandy Horse clone sound compared to the reissues but awesome pedal, I’m glad it works for you!
I had an original PolyChorus and it used to pickup radio stations in my amp and good old 60 cycle hum as it’s an electric effect 110 AC here in USA..
My next one has to be in true bypass.
@@foofghtr Yep, I pick up radio from time to time. I was never quite sure which piece of my gear was doing it. It's funny at jam sessions when in between songs I can hear the score of a baseball game. It's rare but it does happen, it's never an issue though.
Earnie Bailey was Kurt’s guitar tech who also worked on all of his effects during In Utero.
I’d ask him the specs and what he’s done to them.
He wanted to build Kurt a pedal board, but Kurt preferred them taped to the floor.
mustache mans back lets goooo sick vid
Oh, hell yes! You the man for sharing this! Cheers!
Awesome stuff, really enjoyed the vid! Those echoflangers sound incredible
Thanks a lot! Yeah I’d 100% recommend ordering a dandy horse. They are far superior to the EHX reissues and 1/4 of the price of the real vintage ones haha! I know a guy based in Australia who builds them, message me if you’re interested!
@@wastewoodrockers5526 is this Baskah? I know him! We’ve talked online here and there I think. But yes I’m very close to making the investment
@@alexrcowan yeah! Ah that’s awesome he’s a great guy! I’d definitely recommend the purchase haha
Amazing 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Doesn’t the blend switch remove the dry signal, or am I missing something?
Hey! Yeah you’re right the ‘Blend’ switch off is zero dry signal, however this isn’t how it was done either. With the blend off you loose a lot of treble, and there’s no ‘chorusing’ sound. You can hear on the original studio recording that the blend is clearly on because the chorusing is still there as well as all the high end. Hope this helps!
Does anyone have a printable file for the artwork on the Echoflanger dandy clone?? I'm guessing these are printed with a laserjet on clear sticker sheets?? Thanks!
I don’t know anyone selling them individually unfortunately but if you reach out to @baskahofficial he may be able to help you
Could you maybe get closer to the mic next time? I had to turn my headphones up all the way to hear what you were saying. Great video though!
i agree
Kurt’s Amplifier in the studio for In Utero was a 135 watt Fender Twin Reverb 1977-1982.
It wasn’t working correctly and was missing tubes but Earnie fixed it and got it back to 100% stock.
Some of these had JBL speakers and some Oxford Speakers.
The original 65 Fender Twin is 85 watts and used Jensen speakers.
You’re thinking of the Quad Reverb (same as a twin but with a 4 x 12 speaker configuration). It had 3 of the 4 output tubes missing or damaged. That amp was used for the distorted tracks. There was also a Randall head and one other amp assumed to be a Marshall clone built by Earnie with extensive mods. Probably used for the clean parts. All of this has been confirmed by Steve and Earnie themselves. Appreciate the comment!
what was the distortion you used?
SansAmp, settings were:
First three DIP switches up, the rest down
Both drive controls 3/4 of the way up
High control all the way up
Parts list? I’ve seen the bill of materials on the lectric fx website, and it’s kind of a hassle. Just wanted to ask incase you assembled a parts list your self (with links and stuff like that)
Yes you wouldn’t want to be building one of these with zero experience. As I said in the video, I bought this one from Baskah. He is a great guy who will build it for you at a reasonable price. That’s what I recommend if you’re looking for one.
@@wastewoodrockers5526how would you recommend going about asking him?
Nevermind he told me to email him about it.
@@THE-CRT Were you able to get a parts list you could pass along?
@@djefferson5669 nah
is there a cheaper alternative to a poly chorus?
Yes! The pedal in this video (Dandy Horse) is a faithful clone of the original Polychorus/Echoflanger (both sounded identical only difference is the name). It’s not cheap by any means but much cheaper than a real Polychorus.
@@wastewoodrockers5526 It is actually quite cheap to make one, i sell them for £230
For the price these guys are asking for a clone, you might as well save up and get a real one. Why spend almost $400 on a “clone”? And the “clone” is definitely OFF sound wise. Garbage.
@@davesansoniii9117 The clones sound the exact same and you could make one yourself easily for way less lol
@@davesansoniii9117 You clearly don’t own either and have no clue what you’re talking about. Firstly, these are around 400 AUD, not American dollars. You’re talking upwards of 1000 AUD for a real one. There’s a whole host of reasons to get this clone over a vintage unit; reliability, cost, true bypass, availability etc… Second off, they sound the exact same as the real thing. I’d know because I have compared both and actually spent more than 5 minutes doing research. If you don’t like it that’s fine, go watch someone else’s videos.
hey bro can i give u 60 bux for the polyflange
do you know how much they're worth lol
@@Vxupthat's the joke.
it was not idk how much there worth
