This is something a implemented in my game this season. HCP has gone down from 19 to 11, definitely hitting more of those greens by just aiming to the center, not the flag. Highly recommend this type of approach. And thanks coach to putting it out loud and clear!

Most the stats I find are all really only looking at the top 10-20% of golfers, ie. the golfers who formally track a handicap and the ones who are serious enough to buy the tech. Kind of sets most people up for failure by comparison. What does it really look like?
Great vid and very important strategy. I used to pick approach clubs based on distance to pin/location on green: one for front, another for middle, and a different one again for back. As all stats will show, after agonizing over club choice my approach shot would typically fall short of green around 65% of time (and I play to 8 handicap). A few would go long over green if I were playing to back pin location. I now make things easier on myself and pick the club that will go to middle of green on an average, mediocre shot. Result: more GIRs more often - noticeably lower scores more frequently. Now, if I could just stop pulling short irons left ...
Great tips Coach, play smarter not harder. I tend score in the low 80's and at times into the 70's. However to do that, I have to be hyper focused for all 18 holes, play smart and putt well too.

Kinda ironic -- before watching this video, I was starting to break 80 more often after realizing (accepting?) I needed a longer club than I thought I did since I've gotten a bit older. Suddenly, I went from just a few GIRs/round to maybe a third or slightly more; a bit more focus on my putting and voila! 80 broken! Appreciate the video -- it reinforced my (slow) discovery!
I fully understand but and it's a massive but, because my shots into the green are usually a longer club than a wedge,9,8 irons the ball landing has to be Infront of the green to have any chance of holding said green 😢

I don't always aim at the flag for sure. I cheat towards the safer shot. That's almost always towards the center of the green. Some holes have enough slope that you want to be below the hole. Some holes have trouble behind or in front of the green, so you want to cheat/aim away from that trouble. Just last week I was playing pretty well and decided it would make sense for me to aim about midway between the flag and the right edge of the green. That would give me room to miss. Of course, that particular shot I hit it right where I aimed. That's golf I guess.
I haven’t broken 80 yet I make solid contact but I can’t hit a damn green to save my life. On the driving range I can hit it to my targets but on the course I don’t think I trust my aim. I’m a 17 handicap and my last round I hit 2 greens and scored 90. On the plus side my chipping has gotten a lot better😂
Record stats of your approach shots and see what percentages go left and right. If there is a predominance of misses to one side, then adjust your aim accordingly.

You also need to play the tees best suited to your capabilities. Most of we senior women don't have a chance in hell of breaking 80 esp as par 3's many times require us to use woods or even a driver to reach. I feel defeated before I start on many holes. The reason why the average male hcp is about 16 and for ladies, 30 - is distance, not short game. I average 30 - 32 putts per round and am a 24 hcp at age 76.

I usually go for middle of the green regardless of the pin placement unless the pin is exactly between 90-100 yds, then i go for the pin..

I do not know your composition of clubs in the bag, but if you are a short hitter with slow swing speed, you should play hybrids up to eight hybrid.

If you did read it, you might average 15yards but some greens are massive like double greens so that would be false

How far do you hit a) driver, b) 3 wood and c) pitching wedge?

it should be the 7 iron because its better to long than left and right in the bunkers. 8 brings bunkers into play.

At 90 with smattering of 80s, mostly high 80s. Lowest once at 81.
