It shouldn't be possible to control the ball the way he does. Everyone knows how hard it is to assess how to touch the ball with the foot when the ground's really bad. Bergkamp never failed to do it with absolute mastery even on a cold rainy night in Stoke. Dennis Bergkamp sort of played football the same way David Gilmour plays a guitar solo. Just masterclass with an unprecedented feeling and touch.

This guy was special because I was lucky enough to witness Bergkamp. He was so gifted and unpredictable with the ball at his feet. He was always 10 steps ahead of his opponent. Yet he had a fear of flying but there is/was and possibly will not be another player in the history who is so technical,so elegant and so perfect with the ball. The goals he scored were always wonderful goals, many of them were unbelievable which cannot be repeated by anyone and yes, I agree with the fact that he was probably the finest technique of any other dutch player
