Grrrrrreat review Ray! I'm sure you love the machine but the minor issues you talked about in this video.... I had not heard about previously. in a nutshell, awesome job and very honest review.
In easel if you want to subtract a shape from another, you set the shape to subtract to zero cut depth first then combine it. That will subtract the overlaid shape from the first once combined.
+Richard “BrainFizz” Morley yeah I noticed that too, but I think of that as a work around. I think a simple set of boolean shape operations would make far more sense and greatly simplify the design process.
+TabLeft Workshop agreed! :-) I do think now is the time to "get into" Easel though, inventables seem to be trying to increase its capability all the time, so learning as it grows -for me at least is easier than diving straight into V10.0 :-)
***** Yeah absolutely. I love the web based platform as a concept (i'm a web application developer) and I think they are getting really close to an extremely easy to use 80% solution for most folks needs, which I think the market is really missing.
I agree the difference in the two sizes is a problem in the instructions. AS much work as it would be I would prefer they do an entire setup of the larger machine etc... like you say a more comprehensive instruction. Very good review! I did not even notice the t handle in the instructions! LOL! Good point!
Thank you for this review. I'm glad you explained well the problems that you had and didn't just mention them. I want to get one someday soon, wasn't sure to get the stock spindle or not. But after what you described and a couple of other reviews, I think I will skip directly to the trim router. I figured that most people ordering one would have the tools in the toolkit, so I had no intention of getting that. And I will definitely do some kind of dust collection/control and the other improvements you mentioned.
Excellent review, I wish I'd seen this before I plunked down the money on the tool kit. I had pretty much the same conclusions about it. What did you use for the dust shroud? Is your' CPAP hose 6'? I'm going to order one and just thinking a 10' might work better if that is where 6' ends up.
Thanks! The dust skirt is some leather I had from another project. And I think the hose is 6' but I'll measure it when I get home and let you know (I got it from a family member and didn't think to ask)
If you haven't checked out Fusion 360 (+UniversalGCode Sender), I'd highly recommend it. I put that to the test yesterday (and uploaded a video on that as well), and really happy with the work flow from modelling -> CAM customisation/GCode output. I probably missed it - do you have a trim router model in mind?
Thanks I'll definitely check it out! As for the router I'm kinda leaning toward to dewalt 611 it's well reviewed and I've always like dewalt in general.
If anyone needs CPAP hoses let me know, I have a few and will start saving mine to give out. I like my ShopBot and have nothing to say about the X Carve. My choice is that I have lost some feeling in my hands and small parts are impossible to work with. Give some of the vectric software a try. Aspire is very expensive so if you are going to make a living with it I would avoid it.
I'm sorry, you may love the thing, but man, I am so tired about hearing about the x-carve. They've completely oversaturated the youtube woodworking channels. It's turned people from woodworkers into let's stare at this thing for a few hours.
Yeah that why I don't plan on uploading videos where you stare at the machine. It's a tool like any other and nobody want to stare at the same tool for an hour.
Nobody was comparing it to an 8-20k machine. This was just an account of what to expect from the purchase of a 1.5k machine. Like I said in the video I like and recommend the machine and think it's a good value for money.

Thanks! Yeah once they fix the instructions the user experience will be greatly improved. P.S. PM me an address and I'll get a sticker in the mail :)
That's the best review of the Xcarve yet. Thank you!
Thanks!
Awesome review Ray! Great detail, and I couldn't agree more with everything you mentioned. Can't wait to see what you make with it!
Thanks Zac!

you are taking about (X-Carve) $1500.00 Machine - ALL- your concerns would go away if you buy a $8000.00 to $20,000.00 machine. -----apple/oranges
