Hello from Detroit Michigan brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures through the light of lanterns
Thanks for watching and being part of the adventure 👍
Awesome Video! It's interesting to see the two designs compete. The Rayo is attractive because of the larger pot and better light, but the Dietz wins on overall practicality. I'm afraid I'm going to be purchasing a lantern soon and I will blame you when the wife questions me. ;)
Thank you and definitely know what you mean about the wife questioning me also about how many lanterns I need 😂 but I am a hero during power failures 👍
I really enjoy your videos! Especially when I am at work I have my phone set up on my table as I frame artwork.
This is a great test!
Thanks Jay I had a lot of fun with this one 👍
Awesome test!
Thanks so much it’s definitely not the best way of heating up something but sure is a lot of fun 👍
Spectacular job Brother thank you for sharing
Thanks again I really appreciate it 👍
Ken's ultimate lantern "cook off" :D
Well, we've discussed this before, the obvious choice of lantern for one of these cookers would be a squat globe design, a No.2 size, like a D-Lite...the closer to the flame the pot is, the better. It's kind of funny how these companies just hasn't thought of it yet.
Always fun stuff, thanks for keeping the videos coming!
Yes that is why I built my own using a Dietz Air pilot model 👍
@@lotsatrains that’s right! Is the globe taller on the No.8 than the D-Lite?
@@Rayo_Rob_No.17 I think it’s about the same but a lot closer to the flame than the Rayo cooker and the Air pilot that I used wasn’t in very good condition anyway and was like an $8 flea market purchase so I went with it.
@@Rayo_Rob_No.17 the air pilot is just a little shorter than the D-lite globe
Shorter globe and larger burner would be the ideal setup. Fuel choice may be something you could experiment with too😉
Yes 👍 thanks 🙏
Yes that is a pretty good comparison between the Rayo cooker lantern & the Dietz millennium cooker lantern in the vid Ken!🙂👍 Ohhh I scored a Piper C.N.R. switch lantern about a week ago & in very good condition & the lantern burns beautifully too!👍👍 Planning to bring the switch lantern to camp this summer & it will be lantern time!🙂🙂
Thanks and nice find on that Piper lantern that is awesome 👏
@@lotsatrains You are welcome Ken! 🙂👍 Yes was a fantastic find on the 4 way switch lantern & yup now up to roughly 21 or 22 various lanterns in my collection!🙂🙂
@@Jefflantern483 wow the collection is growing nicely 👍
@@lotsatrains You betcha Ken! 🙂 Love my little lantern collection for sure!🙂
Awesome video, I would purchase Rayo for its size for more than one person.
Yes it’s pretty good for its size 👍
Can't wait for round 2 !
Thanks Steve 👍
Great review! Thanks
A big Thank you right back at you for watching 👍
Enjoying the videos!
Thank you 🙏
I ordered a Dietz Millennium just because of your video. Woody should give you a $%.
Any temperature difference can be contributed to the larger surface area of the Container
Yes very true and thank you because I never thought about that 👍
Seems kinda funny to be testing emergency cooking tools on top of a modern range in a modern kitchen. Seems like it should be a far more rustic setting.
Yes I agree but it was the only place that I had since it was too cold outside and in the garage 😂
Thanks for this video! I haven't seen the other one yet, but I will go there next.
I recently got one of the Dietz lanterns at a decent price on Ebay. It was supposed to be complete, but was missing the ring on top to hold the pot, darn it! The seller was nice and I determined she honestly didn't know, so I just dropped the issue. Do you know if spare parts can be bought anywhere? I can't find any retailers and no one seems to be parting with the ring.
All in all, I was relatively disappointed in the dietz. The lantern is naturally nice, but the pot and other pices, seemed cheap and chintzy. I will have to look for a Rayo, now. Thanks again!!!
I don’t know of any place to get a top ring for this unfortunately but you could probably make something up with a heavy gauge wire that would bend fairly easily and yes it isn’t that great in quality but kind of fun to use 👍
Hi Ken. New subscriber. I modified a Dietz Jupiter 2500 into a bonafide cooker. The 12 candle power makes it a better cooker. I have used it to cook lentils, rice, eggs, flap jacks, coffee. I posted a video of it today if you care to check it out.
Great job and definitely better than the new Rayo cooker lantern 👍
