Easy answer for there only being teen dragons. Torch is passing the title to the next generation, there's no reason for the larger/older dragons to be there.
@@albertschoise8091 cause they are a 5 year old trying to be edgy and cool and failing in both of them but winning in failing to anger people and failing to annoy people and succeeding in being a 5 year old
That actually makes so much sense, for some reason I hadn’t even considered that the dragon lord could specify which dragons he wanted to call, I just assumed it would have to be all of them. That also explains why he’s never been called before, there would never have been a reason to call a young dragon to do anything before now.
"I don't know why he hoards plushies! More importantly, I don't care..." This!! Things like this are why I have so much respect for Firebrand. No matter how strange something is somebody has, as long as they're not hurting anybody, who cares!!?
Ponies not knowing much about dragons is totally believable. Look at how long it took humans to fully understand gorillas. First we thought they were made up, then we thought they were basically primitive humans, then we thought they were something akin to Sasquatch, until we finally came to view them as the animals we all know. That took several hundred years, and even today, there are still a boatload of misconceptions about them which persist. Ergo, ponies not understanding dragons even after a millennium has passed is well within the realm of possibility.
Except the dragons have a civilization just across the sea from Equestria. This along with Equestria not having up to date info on Griffonstone (and not knowing the Storm King was conquering lands) kinda point to Equestria sucking at diplomacy and foreign intelligence.
In that case, my real-world comparison switches to how long it took for nations like China and Japan to open their borders to the West and begin regular trade and relations, rendering the East an exotic land of mystery for a long time. Or perhaps we can look to how the United States tried remaining isolationist before finally taking its place on the global stage in WWII. (Yes, America abandoned isolationism during WWI, but tried going back to it when the conflict ended. Only after the second time did it finally stick.) Sometimes it's just really difficult to start up diplomatic relations between two different cultures, which can result in many misconceptions and mysteries.
In the case of the dragons they are already migrate over Equestria and a serious threat One would think in Canterlot there would be massive interest in learning more about them. It would be like if aliens decided to fly massive fleets through our solar system, learning more about them would rational become a top priority even if the aliens don't seem to a immediate threat.
Chinese immigrants established self-contained neighborhoods in Western societies - so-called Chinatowns - for a very long time, even before China's border was officially opened to the West. Little was done by native Westerners to understand the Chinese, though. They were just considered the "Yellow Peril" who had to be contained lest they overrun civilization. Stereotyping was prevalent, and clear separation was made between these Chinatowns and the rest of the world. Ergo, this serves as an example of how proximity does not always accompany ability or desire to understand. Some people don't want to understand that which is different; they just want to stay away from it. I'm tempted to comment further on the idea of the government studying alien fleets flying through the solar system, but that would bring me into conspiracy theory territory, and that would be off-topic.
I just go with it's a kind of generational thing. That all the larger dragons are adults who had their chance at the Scepter when Torch won it, this is now to see who will lead the next generation of dragons.

What I took from this episode is, "Damn, Spike can LIFT!" Seriously, we see him carrying an unconscious Ember, a dragon probably twice his weight when she's NOT in full armor; we see him moving a boulder heavy enough to pin down Garble; and we see him save Rarity, who again, is probably something like twice his weight. Seriously, is that strength innate to dragons, or is Spike doing some serious push-ups off-screen?
Everyone keeps talking about how Josh didn't say the taking too seriously quote at the end. It's most likely cuz he's traumatized by the fact that Vivid just revealed that he was having sexual relations with a changling
Also Josh what about the fact that Ember is his daughter which fathers are usually protective of, this is also my theory for why he didn’t want Ember to participate for fear of her getting hurt
its either cause 12. dad do a protec or 2.. maybe he understands that the same blood line shouldnt remain in charge, like in a manarchy, since his position seems to be a bit like a presidency or prime minister position
You know, something people are forgetting is that there is at least one other female dragon competing for the title of Dragon Lord. And I also agree, there's a certain amount of fatherly protectiveness, which is tied to Torch's view that being big, strong, and tough is the ultimate expression of being a dragon. My personal theory is that Torch won his title of Dragon Lord by being the biggest, toughest, and strongest dragon. Hence, he thinks that's what matter most. Because it did to him. Also, he's up there high on the list of "Reasonable Authority Figures", for both letting Spike bow out, then letting Spike choose to compete, and for passing his title to Ember with very little complaint or hesitation. Heck, it really was just one reasonable argument and a few moments thought to understand why Ember earned the title, and how that could be good for the future of dragons. ...Torch is now one of my favorite dragons in Equestria, pretty much tied with Spike and Ember.
If you look at chivalry as it was originally (all the way back to even the Holy Roman Empire), it was more about being a good soldier than anything else. I think people often confuse chivalry with a sense of moral decency; or the modern take on being either gentlemanly or ladylike (which themselves were originally something different). But the point still stands. At his best, Spike is the moral grounding of the main cast. He’s able to call them out on their bull and admit when he himself makes a mistake. But that’s a rant for when y’all get to the episode where Thorax and Ember meet. And no. We will _never_ forget the name Ember. You _will_ remember her name.
Not only that, but her concern for everypony else in the reception hall caused her to limit her power. And this is not speculation. A Royal Problem revealed that Celestia has vast reserves of power, even greater than Nightmare Moon, but she doesn't use it because to do so puts her subjects at risk. (I am, of course, referring to Daybreaker/Nightmare Star/insert appropriate fan name here).
Also he voices another character from a different show, ninjago, CN's longest running lego show and cartoon in general if im not mistaken. He's a great character there but i guess he doesnt count as he's not from the mlp universe

In my opinion, while dragons in the series do get a bad reputation, Garble, in trying to be the stereotype to end all stereotypes, actually surpasses the terrible dragon stigmas to become a full on sociopath, and he needs to be banished to Tartarus for everyone's safety.
By the way, kudos for tackling this episode! Your Spike Trilogy also inspired me to review this over on Equestria Amino. Or rather, I set up a poll of Spike episodes, and this one won.

6:13-6:27 *(jaw drops wide open in shock)* DANG, Vivid has an AMAZING singing voice! I wonder why he hasn't written any songs for Josh's reviews? He could totally do that!
If Spike was a basketball player, this episode would be his career high. As a Spike fan, I've been praying that he for once had a great episode and now he's finally got one. In my personal headcanon when Spike grows up into a teen dragon and gets secret training from Ember to defend himself, he finally squares off against Garble and kicks his ass. But for now, him constantly giving Garble the slip works too.
Justin Sims it's like the biggest thing ever do you know you've never seen something so massive it's just this is a huge huge huge just can't even imagine it's just so huge. It's wonderful it's beautiful elephant dong
I thought the thing about why there were only younger dragons was the Dragonlord intentionally didn't summon the older ones. Possibly because they were too big and strong and might take his throne somewhere he didn't want (like he'd rigged it in Ember's favor or something), or possibly Dragons have sort a reverse of Human government elegebility rules where a dragon can't hold office if they are TOO old. Perhaps by that point most dragons have settled down with their hordes and don't want to rule.
Munch KING In a sense, the dragon lord has their own horde to call their own: other dragons who have yet to fully mature and establish their own hordes. Hordes may or may not be tangible to someone, but it's worth having to them.
Or too big. Just look at that scepter when Torch was holding it. It's tiny like a splinter! Whereas Amber and Spike hold it like a staff... It's just practical. Dragon Lord must be able to hold it and Torch was losing that ability. And adult dragons would likely be as big soon enough after gaining it so... it's just the young ones.
Spike doesn't deserve the shit he gets from the writers. He's amazing. If men in power learned from Spike's example, we wouldn't be going through the horseapples we have now. *rant redacted*
_That just raises even more questions!_ My thoughts whenever I see something that makes me rethink being in this fandom. Such as a dragon painting Celestia in lingerie, for example.
4:23 In the show's defense, it's been shown that the dragons haven't exactly been extending the ol' olive branch. I merely repeat what I said back in the review of Dragon Quest: Part of the problem is likely xenophobia brought on by fear of what they consider a threat. Once again, I ain't sayin' they're right in doing so. Merely that there's a method to the ignorance; less an excuse and more an explanation. As for where Celestia got the egg...that's actually a legitimate question. Something I'm amazed Twilight didn't think of doing in Dragon Quest or NOW.
Still to this day I wish they dedicate an episode to Spike where he gets over his crush for Rarity. It's still a good lesson for young (and older) minds to learn. Crushes are called that because you feel crushed when it's over.
I have to say one thing: when I first saw this episode, I saw in Ember the personality of Cinder, from The Legend of Spyro Trilogy. And, speaking of Spyro, do we need to bring him to the former Dragon Lord just to show how a tiny dragon, like Spyro, could overcome his adventures despite his size?
Its pretty obvious that the heir needed to be young enough to ensure a long reign before retirement, so he only called all the adolescent and younger dragons. Also Changelings don't need to feed on love after they have been purified, a changeling's natural diet is nectar, flowers and insects.
Man, I've actually thought about this before, and I always thought Josh would absolutely DESPISE DWK. I mean, he's drunk and high in every video he makes, says "fuck" every other word, and makes constant pony sex jokes. He seems like the anti-Scorcher in a lot of ways. Good to see you have an open enough mind to enjoy someone's content whose practically the opposite to your own lol.
joshscorcher He's just got the kind of "I don't give a fuck" edge I feel like we've been missing in this community ever since Drowning in Horseshoes "left the fandom."
Seeing this in my subscription box made me so happy! This is still my all time favorite episode of the show even removing my obvious bias. Also, I'll find a way to utilize "that wasn't a joke, it was a fact" just you wait
I believe every time we've seen the changelings before their transformation only continued to show chrysalis as incompetent. A canterlot wedding: there introduced in an invasion that did need to happen. They kidnapped cadence an alicorn that's talent IS love magic. Her alone could have been used to help feed them for a long time. But nope throw her in a hole to be forgotten. A times they are a changeling: the Crystal Empire radiates love and light thanks the the crystal heart so why couldn't they try and feed off that? I don't think there's ever a token mention as to why they don't even try. To were and back again: 1) they didn't kidnap Starlight during her trip because they "didn't think she was worth taking?" She is as powerful as twilight and very charismatic when she wants to be. You are stupid. 2) sharing love instead of holding it should only really mean they won't be hungry anymore so you now have a potential army that doesn't need to constantly feed to attack the world. It's like the jemhadar in Ds9 were it was said if they no longer needed the drug only ment they had no other tethere to hold back the onslaught. All chrysalis needed to do was play alone. It's not like she's bad at deception.
My theory as to why Josh skipped a bunch of episodes just to do this particular one: Josh: "Oh shit! Trilogy Time on my main channel just ended up bashing Spike when it was supposed to be a celebration of him! I've gotta do something to remind people that I like him and this show! Uh...uh...I'll do a review of Gauntlet of Fire on on FOB Equestria early. Yeah, that should be enough.
OC:"Twilight..one,your the element of MAGIC...TWO,YOUR A FREAKING ALICORN WITH GOD POWERS."Twilight:"*blink* Oh yeah!" JUST BLAST GARBLE TO THE MOON INSTEAD OF BACKING AWAY FROM HIM!!! I mean, you could even trap him in a block of crystal like Starlight did to you in season five!XD
8:39 I'd have used a different term to describe Blackstar. Mostly because toxic masculinity carries with it a terrible connotation about the person using it.
Toxic masculinity is just a term used to describe someone acting in a way that is a detriment to themselves and others for the sake of looking masculine. Those who think it means being masculine in it of itself is toxic are mistaken.
The actual definition of toxic masculinity refers to boys and young men without a positive male role models-father figures. Because they are not taught what to do with their masculinity as they mature, these boys (and young men) become destructive as they have a creative outlet for themselves. It's toxic because it can lead to their deaths and the destruction of society. And women effectively marrying the State aren't helping the matter. And this stems from something proven anthropological time and time again, boys are born, men are made. This is why men that have been organizations like say the Boy Scouts, are net benefits to society, they have been made into men by trials and rites of initiations. Go check out Joseph Campell's Hero With a Thousand Faces.

its either cause 12. dad do a protec or 2.. maybe he understands that the same blood line shouldnt remain in charge, like in a manarchy, since his position seems to be a bit like a presidency or prime minister position
Herman Cillo Uhh your sutch a fucking loser/Nerd..and not the good kind of Nerd
Or showing favoritism, the dragons could claim him telling her how to win if he let her.
You _will_ remember her name.
you forget celestia was taken by surprise by a powered up chrysalis
Not only that, but her concern for everypony else in the reception hall caused her to limit her power. And this is not speculation. A Royal Problem revealed that Celestia has vast reserves of power, even greater than Nightmare Moon, but she doesn't use it because to do so puts her subjects at risk. (I am, of course, referring to Daybreaker/Nightmare Star/insert appropriate fan name here).

14:30 Firebrand would be great for MAD's snappy answers to dumb questions
5:08. OBJECTION!! Vincent Tong voices Donut Joe!
Tony Ten, and Feather Bangs, the Justin Timberlake sounding, pre-teen Justin Beiber looking pony.
Tony Ten hey are you from the p.o.r.n???
@@ants7279 .... why am I even trying?
Also he voices another character from a different show, ninjago, CN's longest running lego show and cartoon in general if im not mistaken. He's a great character there but i guess he doesnt count as he's not from the mlp universe
also congrats on the new relationship firebrand. I'm happy for you
this truly was an amazing episode
ZEADPOOL1991 no it wasnt fuck you
Night Shade the hell is your problem
ZEADPOOL1991 Their name is Night Shade. Think Deadly Nightshade, the poisonous plant. And there you have it.
Marc Haas finally someone! But I didn't base it on plant sorry dude, also screw you,JK your ok
@@ants7279 Hey, I’ve got a fun fact for you, did you know that what we see around us is actually a reflection of what’s going on within ourselves? Have you ever stopped to think that if you think all bronies are retarded pedophiles, maybe it’s because that’s what you really think of yourself? Just a thought - much love x
In my opinion, while dragons in the series do get a bad reputation, Garble, in trying to be the stereotype to end all stereotypes, actually surpasses the terrible dragon stigmas to become a full on sociopath, and he needs to be banished to Tartarus for everyone's safety.
Ise no Kami your profile says it all there's only room for one douchebag in this comment section be gone demon!
Or grounded like the edgy teenager he is
By the way, kudos for tackling this episode! Your Spike Trilogy also inspired me to review this over on Equestria Amino. Or rather, I set up a poll of Spike episodes, and this one won.
Ah, breaking josh’s psyche. Truly the best joke.
All I can say is thank you for the Wreck-It Ralph comparison because that is my absolute favorite scene from that movie I laughed so hard (and then started coughing but that’s besides the point)
This is why Spike is my favorite character, and it was another amazing review, always love your input
14:42. I remember the movie... but not it's name... help?
OI! You didn’t say anything about taking anything too seriously! You’re supposed to do that at the end of every episode!
Well i gess hes taking the "explanation" of how Kiden got his love the whole time, a little too seriously and litterly XD
Damien Kalish I think you're taking this too seriously.
+Neon Blade "Chitin." It's spelled "chitin."
Sry, im from germany and its was like 1 am when the video uploaded here ^^ Thanks though for the correction XD
+Ninja of Light - Well, to be fair, that’s what this show is all about, isn’t it? For god’s sake, it’s in the name.
Man, Spike was such a great guy in this.
Too bad his role was stolen by Starlight.
*Seinfeld Tune*
Neo Machine hey do you think my penis looks like a mushroom latest things still on it's going on here can't turn it off is this thing going hold it no greater like that I feel like it's frozen but I'm not sure if it's going you hold it like this no dually the charger on I keep clicking it but it's not doing anything Fastback no give it back just disconnect the charger and be connected and see what happens me you had some to do with the earbuds it's not working to keep pressing it that's not working

I fangasmed at spike’s determination.
Also his name is Burner?
6:13-6:27 *(jaw drops wide open in shock)* DANG, Vivid has an AMAZING singing voice! I wonder why he hasn't written any songs for Josh's reviews? He could totally do that!
Is Vivid allergic to Fairy-type Pokemon?
Blue Flare there isnt a fairy type....man...you mean ice type
....ok?... oh! !!! Ok
'Dragons don't 'do' friends' They find partners for life :P,
Arokh went to casino recent huge bro it's huge dismissive it's huge.
Oh fanfic call back!!!
Justin Sims you sound like my fifth grade teacher that molested me

Chitin. A type of insect plating.
ES21007 I know what it is, I just misspelled it.
Me too
9:37 Try saying that to an army of Fairy type Pokemon!
Confirmed, Vivid Dreams has a crush on Celestia
Thanks for giving DWK a shout out.
Munch KING I count this as headcanon
Munch KING
In a sense, the dragon lord has their own horde to call their own: other dragons who have yet to fully mature and establish their own hordes.
Hordes may or may not be tangible to someone, but it's worth having to them.
Munch KING he's the scientific fact younger penises last longer than older penises
Elderscrollsswimmer wow dragonlord is exactly what I call my penis!
This episode had me falling out of my chair laughing. I loved Vivid's eyebrow waggle at the end for Firebrand. Plus dragons YAY~!
Aww, Vivid Dreams has his very own snuggle-bug. (I'm jealous.)
Nice video.
that big blue dragon *really* liked that hug

God damnit! Now I have to pay Brawnybuck the royalties for using one of his catch phrases.

My apologies, I don't speak fragment comments.
"No, you go around the back and wait for the setting sun with the last light of Durin's Day. YES YOU GO THROUGH THERE!"
Still to this day I wish they dedicate an episode to Spike where he gets over his crush for Rarity. It's still a good lesson for young (and older) minds to learn. Crushes are called that because you feel crushed when it's over.
Spike at your service. I am so looking forward to that, Josh.
The Nerd Beast sure it id
How do you know that? But what did it eat until the reformation. ............ oh
Christina Hunt the dude makes good points. He's like the Zero Punctuation of reviewers.
joshscorcher He's just got the kind of "I don't give a fuck" edge I feel like we've been missing in this community ever since Drowning in Horseshoes "left the fandom."
Christina Hunt dwk stands for dick, weaving, contest
joshscorcher holy cow, I did not think of that comparison!
Also, I didn't know you watch Zero Punctuation! He is REALLY good! ^-^
Night Shade, I thought it was Dick Wanging Kooter
Seeing this in my subscription box made me so happy! This is still my all time favorite episode of the show even removing my obvious bias. Also, I'll find a way to utilize "that wasn't a joke, it was a fact" just you wait

14:30 The timing of that sarcastic joke is comedy plantinum. Firebrand...NEVER CHANGE
Think you should watch some of the previous videos on the changelings. It kinda went over a lot of this.
Nazo- kage your show sucks they constantly rip off Yugi's enemies and TV shows
Night Shade I do not know what you are talking about
Nazo- kage Your coment makes no sence you fucking donut you lack information and have failed to prove to know even the most basic knowledge.
Night Shade maybe instead of using curse words and just saying I don’t know anything do you have any proof?
When he used the line from wreck it Ralph i spit up my M and M's laughing. Thank you lord for that joke.
Wait, I thought Rainbow-lings didn't need to eat love anymore.

I think Vivid must make his own love for that changling... **Wink wonk**
19:20 Personally I wish we could see the show have a male character be masculine, dominate, and bold without resorting to demeaning gags.
Tirek. Next time wish for a HEROIC male character with those traits.
Oooook I admit I walked into that one, I'll owe you a beer (or whatever you drink).
Admittedly, he's hardly a role model, but he meets all those traits while still retaining a sense of humor, albeit a twisted one
Iron Will.
Flash Magnus and Rockhoof. Well we did not see much of them and there are more masculine guys in their demeanor but I think they qualify.
I like how even up to this date, Josh will never quit Appreciating Gauntlet: Dark Legacy.
Vivid Dreams at 18:13 ja YEET !!!!
Btw i think he is One Punch Dragon (or mam or whatever :D )
7:57 can’t stop replaying this
My theory as to why Josh skipped a bunch of episodes just to do this particular one:
Josh: "Oh shit!
I was hoping ud do this episode 😄
as much as i loved Gauntlet of fire...i was more blown away by the times they are a Changeling when it came to spike's portrayal
OC:"Twilight..one,your the element of MAGIC...TWO,YOUR A FREAKING ALICORN WITH GOD POWERS."Twilight:"*blink* Oh yeah!"
JUST BLAST GARBLE TO THE MOON INSTEAD OF BACKING AWAY FROM HIM!!! I mean, you could even trap him in a block of crystal like Starlight did to you in season five!XD
Alicorns can't just blast other creatures to the moon. That only happened once, and it was not Celestia's intention.
I'm 130 Years old male fallen nephalarpyrampus that means I'm an teenager.
Love the D&D inspired jokes... Also falling rocks are nothing compared to betrayals when it comes to many deaths in D&D.
9:00 but, it did become a meme.
Wasn’t expecting a soul eater reference, well done I’m impressed.
I know that. It's just that people who usually use toxic masculinity end up themselves being toxic for different reasons.
GIguyjoe Considering the people who use it tend to be tumbler SJWs I'd have to say you are correct.
GIguyjoe my butthole looks like a star I like putting a lot of things up there you know for safekeeping
"Where does he even get the love from?"
