I found that a small amount of engine oil leak from rocker cover onto coil pack rubber boot causes it to short, resulting in misfire. Clean up the oil, and inside the rubber boot plus chamber where it fits. Solved my misfire problem completely without having to replace the expensive coil pack. Good luck.
Thanks Kazzrich - Perhaps I should replace the rubber boots since I'm replacing the plugs. The check engine light came on a couple days ago, but it isn't flashing, which I've read is a very bad sign.
Just purchased a 2012 Kia Soul 2.0l. It is misfiring, really bad when idling in gear. I'm going to run through this test. I suspect the plugs need to be replaced but I'll use this dianostic tool first. It has about 96k miles on it. Thanks Steve!!!
I have a 2012 Kia Soul that has just developed a #2 misfire I am having surgery tomorrow and was wondering if it will hurt to run it til Friday when my husband gets home ( he’s a truck driver) my daughter will b driving? Thank you
@@Steve4x4 Thanks for the advice! Don't want to have an overheating issue because of a damaged CC! Bought our 2012 2.0l a week ago. It started doing this of course, after we finalized the purchase and brought it home. DOH!! test drove went fine and didn't notice an idling issue. More apparent while in gear.
I ended up replacing the ignition coils. There was a misfire happening on cylinder 4. The rough idling when in gear stopped. $100 for 4 coils from Amazon 👍
I didnt mean to offend. Its hard to answer your question over the internet. Last thing I want to happen is to waste ur time, and your money. There isn't a single fix that will work in your situation. Cause we don't know what is wrong. All we know is that there is a misfire. Wich can be cause by many different things. I hope you understand I wasn't trying to deceive you in anyway.
How do you replace the wire? I changed the coils and all are good now but number 1 still has a misfire. How do I change that connector piece or do I have to change the entire computer
Hi any chance you can help me with my kia soul diagnostics? I had the exact issue as the video you posted but that didnt seem to be the problem I believe my issue is the fuel injector. Any chance you can show us how to clean it?
No way to really clean the injector at home. If you have the injector out. U can try to find a special shop to try to sonic clean it. Even then its hard to clean a fully plugged up injector.
Halloween Kills - Oh, maybe that's my issue. I'm experincing rough idling while in gear (more so than in park). After I replace the plugs and PCV valve, if I still have issues, I'll examine this next. Oh boy...not impressed considering I just purchased it! But that's the risk with buying used.
P0304 all that mean is the computer had detected a cylinder misfire on cylinder #4. Verify the misfire. Do you know how to do a cylinder balance test? The spark plugs are only a small part that make a cylinder work. Is the coils making spark? Is the injecter firing? Is the injector spray pattern correct? This is what I never advocate code readers. People believe the code tells you what's wrong. Occasionally yes. But what a code is.. is just telling you what the computer is upset about. In your case the computer see that cylinder #4 is misfiring. The question that has to be answer before more parts and money is thrown at is it, is WHY does the computer thinks cylinder #4 is misfiring
@@dustinh4283 You can Ohm test em with a meter. But that only tests the the coil winding in the injector. Won't tell you if the injector is plugged or restricted. But in my experience... best practice if to verify everything else,... are u getting spark to the tip of the spark plug? Is the compression solid? Are you getting injecter pulse from the computer. If you can answer yes to all that then u can suspect injector. And u can get a noid light kit from harbor freight or Amazon cheap these days or check to see if local auto part store will loan it out. Use that to check for injector pulse. Old school trick... u can use a mechanic stethoscope to listen to the injector too.
Do you mean the engine cover? I cant tell you how to do that cause it was too long ago to remember specifically. Sorry. Most just lift up. Some have 10mm bolts. And other have lift one side and slide fwd.
I don't know why you're even asking that question because it's distributorless ignition meeting there is no change in the firing order because it's computer controlled. You can take coil number one and put it into coil number two or even number 4 in the computer will not care because it controls the firing of the coils.

What crappy cars for spark plugs to go out this early. I’m Korean and wouldn’t touch a Kia. My Lexus and Acura and Toyota have spark plugs that have 160k miles on them that ran perfect. I switched them out but still had good looking gaps. None of this nonsense.

Thanks!! I will examine for oil once I get the plugs out. I'm clearly having a misfire issue, worse when idling in gear, on my 2012 Kia Soul 2.0l.

It's not good for the engine to drive with a constant misfire.
It can also damage the catalytic converter.

Verify the misfire.

Is there a way to test the injectors? I'm mechanically incline but more of a old school carburetor type of guy lol

Pardon if this question has ben asked: Is this a 1.6 or 2.0 L engine?
Honestly I cannot remember sorry
Looks like the 1.6
how do you get the plastic cover off to get to everything?

Where did you get the tester and what brand is it? Very helpful video

Most likely to change wire, and the coil !!??
