I hang the entire plant, even with most of the root ball, less the dirt, upside down in my grow tent. I also cut off all the large leaves. I set my tent fans on a gentle breeze, and let the plant cure for a week or so. I check on them daily and do the stem snap test. Once done, I do a bud trim and put 1/2 oz. in Mason jars along with a 1 oz. size Boveda 62% humidity packs, burp them for a week, store them in the dark, and enjoy! Love the Boveda packs. Some solid information here. The only thing I would add is if you live somewhere with real low humidity and your flowers are drying too fast, put them in a large plastic tote and cock the lid open. The tote will help retain moisture. I do this and place my tote n the coolest place I can find. It helps A LOT!
For myself, I found 68 degrees farenhite and just under 60% humidity at 57/58 % humidity for 10- 12 days is perfect. Also, in my opinion, if you wait to full stem snap, it's already too dry. In my opinion, drying at 60-60 is no good that is actually full saturation it's like trying to dry in the rain forest 😂
I agree. When I dried at 60/60 at 14 days, there was still quite a bit of moisture, and I was starting to worry. To be fair, though, the whole plant was attached, but yeah, about 65 temp and 58 - 60rh. Temp can even be a little higher, even up at 70 degrees I still get a 10-11 day dry if my rh is at 60.
I like 66/56 here in MO...60/60 Is just too moist, 10-11 days I can start to roll one, see if I need another day or two, gotta to run a de-h this time of year to regulate.
@@davidbowman3509 Thought it was just me. 15 days and still too moist. Monitored with a couple monitors. Never outside 58-62 RH and 58-62 F. Took forever to dry and still not.

Then I cut to about ten inch sections and sweat it for a day or two, in brown paper bags. At that point its ready for the grove bags along with a moisture meter. I'm still tweeking my process, but it's getting better each go around. Funny isn't it, that all those who would panic if they got humidity in the tent above 60% when growing have no problem wanting moister in the centre of their buds for as long as possible knowing that it will decay. moister and terpine testing equipment has proven that a shorter 6 - 10 day dry is the best As the secondary moister that a long dry holds onto, only causes decay.

Hello, I would like to share my preferred post-harvesting technique with you. In the initial two weeks, I follow a consistent routine to eliminate nitrogen from the flower. Subsequently, I suspend the entire plant, including the leaves, for a few weeks, similar to your approach. After this period, I carefully separate the buds into baskets. To complete the drying process effectively, I maintain a constant environment of 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 60% humidity. This method requires patience, but it ensures optimal results without compromising quality.
I have a 6x6 trellis filled right now. It looks amazing. This is my thrid grow, and my first two where complete losses due to mold. I have my space ( in my barn) now insulated with a AC unit. And i am PRAYING i can get a good harvest. Im getting discouraged
Last harvest I had was middle of February so it was very easy to maintain a 60 degree room. Now that it’s warming up it will be a bit more challenging. I’m way down south by the way.
I believe terpenes are oils, so they'll evaporate with heat. Sublimation is when a solid turns directly into a gas, while volatility is the ability to evaporate under normal temperatures. Another point is that the green in leaves is from chlorophyll; so unless bud turns brown, there's still chlorophyll present. I think a lot of the curing processes are about enzymes using up stored/unused sugars in the plant instead. Purple bud has already broken down this chlorophyll, yet we still can taste that 'green' in it. Although with many things, I'm sure the answer is somewhere in between.
I have to cut into that cold temperatures, which are also able to dry all things, when the humidity and airflow are correct :) In theory, you could dry clothes in the winter outside, as long as the air is dry enough 😅 Greetings to you both, great content, as always ❤

Looking to get relief from my chronic knee pain instead of going on pain meds. Is there a particular strain I should be growing for that?
Depends on your area. If your area is very humid then trimming some of the extra veg. off early is fine, But if your area is dry then leave on as much as possible to help increase drying time. P.S. he has a very good video he explains this a bit more.

when i think bud is ready for jars, do a sample bud with humidity meter in jar, wait and check, if it at about 65% jar up the bud and burp daily until at desired humidity
65F & 60-65% RH for long as possible, ill use a dehu for 1st few days then add humidifier if needed for last 7+ days Once bud rests at 65% in the jar its good to start the burping process untill 60-63% which gives me smoothest and even when im halfway thru jar its still not too dry, Interga packx worked well but didnt like the boveda ones
@@ScottyReal420 hey Scotty. i was wondering if i should use 1 gallon pots instead of 3 gallon pots so i can keep my plants around 24 inches or less. ?im trying to grow more than one plant. i have a 27x27x60 tent.? thanks
I have a closet empty just for drying 60 60 is my aim . I waited this long, so 10 to 14 days ... safer to use bags, so no burping . Shake bag once in a while is this true
I lost my humidity level in the dry on day 4, the A/C ran all day and reduced the humidity to sub 40% humidity. humidifier couldn't keep up in the room. definitely lost flavor/smell. learning..
I'm on the other side - I hate dry trimming. Hate it hate it hate it. I do dry on the stem but take the leaves off at the start. I grow outdoors, harvest in September or October, I have to worry about too much moisture. Still, I can't keep the turps for a full year, I'm already thinking about next fall.
So would it be beneficial to heavily water your plants a day before, or during chop? To allow it to have as much water on board to extend the drying process?
I'm prepared for this to be a really dumb idea but what about a wine cooler? Take the racks out and maybe a small dehumidifier? I looked and they can be set as high as 65 F.
Okay. I immediately checked my dumb idea and confirmed it's dumb. But...in the wine industry there are wine cabinets available that maintain temperature and humidity. I would think that would be ideal.
If you leave your buds on the stem while curing they are better somehow too. Not sure of the science but I swear by it. They stay stickier longer and hold flavor for longer.
Hello Scotty I grow outdoors in fabric pots. I can provide shade netting but do you have any advice on how to slow down the drying? They currently dry out on me every 2 days and its getting old. I'm hand watering. I live in central valley California so the heat is intense.
I dry with my ACI app as a guide in my dry tent. In summer when in the mid 70's I put my RH at 68-70%%. In winter when it's 58f I lower humidity to 55%. As you know they say the perfect stats are 60% - 62f. Which if you achieved that, you would see a VPD of .77kpa. so try and aim for something between .77 - .85kpa I've seen commercial growers dry at 55% - 55f. He said "if your nipples ain't hard it's not cold enough in the dry room" .Like wise, some cali farmers dry with all the 7's 70% at 70f +. Having played with all these temp scenarios, I can confirm, they all end up with a rough VPD of .77kpa
@@LOVEisACTIONABLE No it doesn't as many cali award winning farmers who dry in barns will tell you. You need to understand VPD and the fact Humidity is relative.
@@LOVEisACTIONABLE Funny isn't it, that all those who would panic if they got humidity in the tent above 60% when growing have no problem wanting moister in the centre of their buds for as long as possible knowing that it will decay. moister and terpine testing equipment has proven that a shorter 6 - 10 day dry is the best As the secondary moister that a long dry holds onto, only causes decay. Drying using VPD as I demonstrated above gives me a 7 - 8 day dry with great results.
Hi,if I'm drying in my tent should I have the ac infinity exhaust at full speed ? Tent walls are sucking in. Im on day 5 of drying with 60rh and 20-23c° and I'm feeling like it's taking my trichomes. It don't smell potent in the tent .
So… I inadvertently slowed the drying process WAY down. I had a hard time keeping the humidity down with everything I had. So to combat the high humidity, I set my mini split on dry mode. That ended up cooling the room to like 52 degrees and only got the humidity down to 70% coming up on the end of week three now.
I've got no patience and dry a lot quicker usually in 5 days. Then jarred and burped for a couple of weeks. No grassy smell. Sure I probably lose a few terps but the final product is still great. Edit I wet trim as well.
You can have a fan in there you don't want it blowing on anything because it will dry it out too fast put it on the lowest setting make sure it's blowing away
@@mikeg1032 I’m going to put one fan above my drying plants and another below. Not blowing on the plants as that will dry it out faster. I mean just one leave blowing may be ok but just face the fan to the side out away from the plant.
you want air movement in the drying area just not directly on the plants. you still need air movement to make sure you don't have mold grow on the buds.
didnt hear u mention the enemyMOLD...constant soft air flow is a must. i learned the hard way one time! monitor humidity constantly,or if your rich get a cannatrol ...always a good vid from Scotty
I’ve not did this, but seems like trimming when plant is fresh cut the harder it be to knock tri combs off. After it’s dry brittle and u start trimming it seem be easier to knock off tri combs
Hey Scotty. Nitrogen produces chlorophyll which is obvious right? Chlorophyll has a shelf life of 48 hours MAX! Just thought this may help someone. Great into videos brother.
i use a disco ball rotator when drying.. to keep to mold away, the rotation keep the air from getting stagnant.. and i also aim for at least 7-10 days of drying.. but yes the longer the drying the better.. keep that moisture in plant the longer is the way to go.. mold will show as brown fluffy hairs.. on stems and flower.. if you have that you need to adjust and optimize the drying process
I am financially challenged regarding a dry tent. Best i can do is slow down the dry time by hanging them in a 2x2x4 high. plastic clothes bag with a zipper to vent it. A hygrometer tells me the humidty inside the tent and one outside which also gives temp. I regularly check it to adjust the humidity level. Every day I open it completely to allow air transfer. 30 minutes.Burping the dry tent. Seal it back up. Keeping it steadily dropping.
SHOW IDEA!!! I would really like to see your grow area, you guys should do an "age gated" show for your fans. Show us your buds! I bet your numbers would be over what the non-age gated shows are. Just make the show so people who would want to see it know to watch for sure.
New science says that the optimum dry is between 6 and 10 days. Professor Bugbee and others in the industry with the right testing equipment say drying is down to the dew point, like the much acclaimed Canatrol that dries in 5 days. I dry with my ACI app as a guide in my dry tent. In summer when in the mid 70's I put my RH at 68-70%%. In winter when it's 58f I lower humidity to 55%. @@PryceFarms No one has claimed it is smokable in five days. as it would also need to cure....So how long does it take you.? 6 -7 days and not 14 As I'm going on what Chris (mr Grow it) has said about his and his ambiant RH is 28% and the inventor of the Canatrol when he was explaining it on the show.... But the theory used to dry is still sound as they us the dew point which irradiates the secondary moisture. So how long does it take you to dry and cure and what is your ambient climate.

Scotty doesn't ;like it pointed out that the long dry theory is just bro science as they had nothing better to gauge the results by. Now they have all the testing equipment and better envirement control. It is now proven by terp profiling, that a shorter 6 - 10 day dry is the best. @ScottyReal420 thanks I think they costs around 385 dollars . I uses my grow tent to dry .I live in southern mn so its not to much of a problem. Thank you very much
Yeaaaa i got a feeling growing during the summer was a mistake. I flipped to flower from the 1st. I live in the Caribbean and its currently almost 90°F outside and like 75% humidity. make sure you have good air flow, and try to keep the fluctuations to a minimum and you should have a descend smoke. You may loose some terps due to temperature but can make it through.
@Mad_Medz I run my lights at night also. Definitely less Heat at night , Sometimes electricity is cheaper at night because of less demand and even though it's legal in my state I don't like lights and fans running in the daytime when family and friends may be over. I do 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Hay smell is that just a common thing because I had my tent dialed in at 60/60 and still got the smell do you still get the smell and if so is it hurting anything?
Maybe in the near future we will have local bud storage lockers that open with face recognition and thumb print. It may be more efficient to have a storage facility than multiple homes tied to the grid trying to maintain 60/60. I came up with idea when I have a room that maintains 60/60 without using electricity.
I still have problems with the drying process, all homegrown smells like grass or hay chloroform. I had great smell while they were in the tent, but after they dried, the smell went away.

when i think bud is ready for jars, do a sample bud with humidity meter in jar, wait and check, if it at about 65% jar up the bud and burp daily until at desired humidity
Nice what type of meter do you use?
I do the same over time you figure out the best way all trial and error
I can only get around 68f-68%. Hung whole plants, maybe I should split them in two?
65F & 60-65% RH for long as possible, ill use a dehu for 1st few days then add humidifier if needed for last 7+ days
Once bud rests at 65% in the jar its good to start the burping process untill 60-63% which gives me smoothest and even when im halfway thru jar its still not too dry,
Interga packx worked well but didnt like the boveda ones
the boveda packs are salt based where as the integra packs are not.
you need to sell those recharge shirts.. the product is awesome
We do, there are two option for shirts and a recharge Hat. www.realgrowers.com/product-category/clothing/
Great video love your advice Scotty
Glad to hear it
very well explained! Now i know why my stuff taste like hay and is crap! Back to the bat cave I go!!
Scotty your Recharge is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
Man I got some not to long ago..
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Very informational!🔥 Thanks
Always keeping it real Scotty real lol great video brother.
Thank you!
To allow it to have as much water on board to extend the drying process?
this could lead to mold issues, it is best to water your plant a day or two before harvesting and not that day.
I live in central valley California so the heat is intense.
sounds like you need some type of auto watering systems, check out blumat soaker tape of their drippers.
I dry with my ACI app as a guide in my dry tent. In summer when in the mid 70's I put my RH at 68-70%%. In winter when it's 58f I lower humidity to 55%. As you know they say the perfect stats are 60% - 62f. Which if you achieved that, you would see a VPD of .77kpa. so try and aim for something between .77 - .85kpa
I've seen commercial growers dry at 55% - 55f. He said "if your nipples ain't hard it's not cold enough in the dry room" .Like wise, some cali farmers dry with all the 7's 70% at 70f +. Having played with all these temp scenarios, I can confirm, they all end up with a rough VPD of .77kpa
70° and 70% is going to mold fast
I just cut up the main stalk for feeder bugs!
I've ran commercial grow team, always dry trim.. Unless you are using freeze dry process.
Don't worry too much about the outside of the Bud.There's way more tricomes on the inside
I'm going to do just that I'm going to leave them on I've tried other way not a good turn out hayfield lol
I've got no patience and dry a lot quicker usually in 5 days. Then jarred and burped for a couple of weeks. No grassy smell. Sure I probably lose a few terps but the final product is still great.
Edit I wet trim as well.
Do light bulbs in a house degrade the tricombs and terpenes?
they will, but not as much as natural light from the sun that has UV in it. for drying and storage it is best to keep the area as dark as possible.
What about fans. Direct fans? Indirect? Should they have any wind at all getting on them? Wish you went over drying more
You can have a fan in there you don't want it blowing on anything because it will dry it out too fast put it on the lowest setting make sure it's blowing away
@@Catch_u_reloadn So if there is even the slightest movement on any of the leaves or stems that's not good right
@@Catch_u_reloadn I hope you're not a new grower because this is my first harvest this weekend
Good call!
Glad to hear y’all described it as green taste, that’s exactly how to describe the taste! You might add shit to that description.
How do you know when they are ready to dry
Is 74 to 75°F ok for the terps?
Correct 14-day dry 60° 60% humidity well be dank medicine...mine always sticky and smokes great.
hmm in 40 years of growing I never tried dry trimming. Dunno why ...Ill give it a go
So if i dried it too long am i screwed? I was waiting for the small stems to almost snap and the jar humidity is only 50% sitting after a day
Waiting for answer as well if possible!! Just jarred my buds yesterday, sitting at 50% hum for 14hrs so far
Thanks for the vids Scotty I emailed you 😅
i use a disco ball rotator when drying.. to keep to mold away, the rotation keep the air from getting stagnant.. and i also aim for at least 7-10 days of drying.. but yes the longer the drying the better.. keep that moisture in plant the longer is the way to go.. mold will show as brown fluffy hairs.. on stems and flower.. if you have that you need to adjust and optimize the drying process
What do you do with a plant does not like light, yet always want water?
All plants love light your either to close or to hot
Sounds like your light is too intense.
@@ScottyReal420 It's gelato. I left it out of light 2 days and reduce the time the lights were on. And it is pretty nice looking. And yes: growdots
Starting my drying next week, stop stalking me scotty
I can get recharge through amazon but not grow dots and they don't ship to canada. Wish i could try them out
Due to changes in the Canadian fertilizer act, we are not longer able to ship our products to Canada
Good technique.
SHOW IDEA!!! I would really like to see your grow area, you guys should do an "age gated" show for your fans. Show us your buds! I bet your numbers would be over what the non-age gated shows are. Just make the show so people who would want to see it know to watch for sure.
We are not doing any age gated videos on this channel, if you would like to check out our grows, join us over at realgrowlab.com
Good to know I just found that app, and signed up the other day. I'll totally check it out!
@@PryceFarms Who claimed it would be smokable in 5 days? You seem confused. As you would also need to cure it. Are you sure you actually have one. Or did you get a refund as you thought it would be ready to smoke in 5 days for some reason.
@@UbiquitousRomp why you deleted your comment that i was replying too? You asked me what i ended up using and i told you
@@PryceFarms I'm not deleting them. It's annoying as I have plenty to say on this subject
Scotty doesn't ;like it pointed out that the long dry theory is just bro science as they had nothing better to gauge the results by. Now they have all the testing equipment and better envirement control. It is now proven by terp profiling, that a shorter 6 - 10 day dry is the best. Hesse the canatrol drying in much less time than 14 days. most are drying with it in 5 to 7 days depending on their local ambient.
What do you think about og drying tents
looks like a stripped down tent with a Hanging system with moving parts, I am wondering how those hangers hold up over time? They are not something I am interested in trying myself.
My closet is currently mid 80s with humidity in the high 50s. And while that doesnt sound too bad the problem is the constant fluctuation. I dont think the plants like it much.
I would grow more sativa dominant varieties and a controllable dehumidifier for the flower room or tent.
@@Toneloke-3000 i think they'll be fine cuz they actually are sativa doms, ones a white widow but i have no idea what the other one is bc i accidentally mixed up some of my beans with bagseeds😬
make sure you have good air flow, and try to keep the fluctuations
to a minimum and you should have a descend smoke. You may loose some terps due to temperature but can make it through.
@@ScottyReal420 preciate the tips man. What i did was flip my light cycle around so the lights will be on during the night when its much cooler👌
If you are still getting that smell and taste, it maybe the there is to much chlorophyl still in the plant at time of harvest.
Im at 68% and 72f, trying to get it right
Bags they say is better is this true
Depending on how big your buds are. If your buds are the size of pop cans it might mold before its dry.
If they are that size you may need to change up the way you dry or take the buds apart so they don't mold.
Maybe in the near future we will have local bud storage lockers that open with face recognition and thumb print. It may be more efficient to have a storage facility than multiple homes tied to the grid trying to maintain 60/60. I came up with idea when I have a room that maintains 60/60 without using electricity.
what you described it's sublimation
Anyone use a cannatrol!? Usually dry and cure the old school way but got a cannatrol to check out the wave
@@PryceFarms thank you for your tips I’ve heard from others that modifying the times may be a good idea :)
I found harvesting in November is better than harvesting in July because of the temperature. So I bought a used portable AC for 100 bucks.
🙌
And one more thing, make sure you're room is 65 to 60 degrees before 75 humidity before you cut anything?
Scotty Real, and Hi C I like your show better than the DGC... just saying. Have a good day!
Its like youve been watching my searches 😂😂😂
😂
??Has anyone used a temp control humidor for drying??
Colorado has its challenges, a bubbler in a bucket for humility .
Then cure in an airtight cooler in open jars , burp it all at once.
Interesting. Colorado is a hard place it dry and cure.
I still have problems with the drying process, all homegrown smells like grass or hay chloroform. I had great smell while they were in the tent, but after they dried, the smell went away.
