The Walk - EP 137 - The Medieval & The Motorway - Hunting For The Lost Village Of Lund - Derbyshire

Ayup everyone. Thanks for joining me on another explore!
This time I am in the beautiful Derbyshire village of Heath, just outside Chesterfield.
I am taking a walk down to Junction 29 of the M1 motorway, which of course doesn't sound very exciting, but there is a medieval surprise hidden away.
The site that is now junction 29, was actually once the medieval village of Lund (or Lound). A village that appeared in the Doomsday Book of 1086.
The village was abandoned in the 12th century, so you would imagine there would be no sign of this place. Especially given the motorway, and the duel-carriageway to Chesterfield, now occupy the site.
But there is a small section between the two busy roads, that still exists!
Locally known as 'Heath Old Church', remains of the church that once served the long lost village of Lound, still stand, surrounded by gravestones, in some woodland just metres away from the endless streams of traffic.
