Thank you for this reaction. When Angelina first released it, I realised I had never heard the song before, even though I was aware of its existence. It was so different to anything that Angelina had released before that it "blew my mind". Since her performance I have listened to several female singers covering this but not one of them, even the ones near the same age sing with as much passion and emotion.
In addition to bringing back the old classics, Angelina is introducing us old farts to some of the more contemporary songs, songs I would have never otherwise heard. I never heard of Allen Walker before, and now Faded and Sing Me to Sleep are 2 of my favorites.
I'm not sure what the mask signifies either, but I think it was made by Angelina. This is a hard one to cover, and as expected.... it's not hard for Angelina. I think she is constantly trying to find a challenge... Whitney, Amy, Freddie... these are all singers that can never be replaced... but I'm so glad we have Angelina to fill the void they left behind, and become the new challenge for singers of the future. But doing this at 13 years old... she might become a challenge that never gets matched.

"The show must go on", I always thought she used the mask to play with the name of the song.
She has hardly even started and in twenty years we will still be saying "WOW!" at every new song she puts out. She's like the rabbit that the greyhounds try to catch. Never happen.
The mask is the same pattern as her outfit on AGT
I interpret the mask to symbolize Freddy's life behind the scenes, "behind the mask". On stage, he had to wear a mask.

Thank you for your insightful reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are a person who appreciates the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I would say to all young singers: Don’t try to sing like Angelina, until you know how to do it, especially where she belts out in the high register. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that, comparatively, very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on UA-cam someday!
The great old souls from the past... I'm sure they're lining up in the heaven for Angelina Jordan to perform their great music. And the heaven is telling Angelina what to do next.☺️
She is just so talented, her ability to capture each songs true meaning, and the fact that each one is a tribute to one of our lost legends. I am sure that they are all looking down with pride at what she manages to do

I have always wondered what compells her to choose the artist and the songs she covers. I believe she is an empath. Her abilty to sing as if she is channeling the actual artist and the sentiments of that particular song. Maybe the mask signifies the fact that she has somewhat of an understanding of the fact that Freddie Mercury did hide himself (e.g. behind a mask) and his circumstances from the public. This may be her interpretation of that. Her Whitney Houston interpretation, her Billie Holiday, Lana Del Ray, Evis, and so on. These are songs she sings with the emotions of someone with lifelong experiences and after she sings with such emtion, she can smile that sweet smile and wave to us like the young person that she is. With a youthful innocence. Meanwhile, she has just taken us the viewers on an emtional rollercoaster. She's just a phenomenon! She never ceases to astound me.
For me, this may be her most perfect performance (before AGT). Her tone is beautiful, her pitch is perfect, and her breathe control is unbelievable. When she sings "the show must go on....the show must go on", I can't see a place where she takes a breathe. The amount of power she is exerting here is amazing, and she does it in one breathe. And she's 13. How can that be?? And I get a little tired of some people wanting to compare her version to Freddie's. She's not trying to be Freddie Mercury; she's honoring him. No doubt one of Angelina's finest! I'm always amazed, by Angelina's ability to take a classic song like this and just nail it like no other performer, especially at 13. I really can no longer even think of Angelina as a child when it comes to her music. Her voice, her arranging, her writing, her recording is so far ahead of her age, that it is really impossible to think of he that way, at least for me. I don't think there is anything she can't sing and absolutely smash it. It is also obvious that Angelina is now adding much more emotion to her songs. She not only goes to that magical place when she sings, she is taking us there with her. The world stops, the focus is on just her, and you just can't stop listening, and nothing else matters. Bravo Angelina, bravo!

When Queen did this I thought it was a good song, but Angelina has given it a new life. Her twist on songs is going to be legendary. They keep the integrity of the original, yet enhance the result....this is a perfect example! She sounds like an early Shirley Bassey. I think she could do "Goldfinger".

First time hearing this as well. Chills. Great interpretation!
Many of her videos have been produced in home studioes. And she makes great music just accompanied by a guitar or piano, or even A capella. But her perfomances live in concert give you a better perspective of her abilities and artistry. She delivers and does not need to hop around to entertain. When she opens her mouth, its all about her and she has our full attention.
AJ is in a lane of her own that no one is the universe can enter. AJ epitomizes the word ARTIST.

So I'd say Angelina got it perfectly right with that mask. Freddie was most certainly hiding his pain and anguish behind a mask of normality after he was told what was wrong with his health. And as his own lyrics say, "the show must go on"...

The mask is an intimate heads up to Freddie Mercury and the context in which this song was written.... Freddie was dying... trying to shield his fans from the gloom of his debilitating illness... So his last song was The Show Must Go On!

I do believe the mask which encompasses the colors of the LBGTQ community is your answer. Brian May wrote this song in honor of Freddie Mercury who at the time was dying of Aids. The last album they did before Freddie died. Angelina is giving Tribute to Freddie in this cover song and absolutely kills it. You may also notice that Angelina is dressed in all Black, as a tribute to the Great Freddie Mercury.
Dimash sounds like Dimash but you should watch his cover of the same song. It is on Singer 2017; his third song.
