- Diggle Diaries: An attempt to film all daylight running freight and interesting workings from Diggle Junction. Situated on the picturesque Trans-Pennine, Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds route, Diggle Jn lies at the top of a steep incline leading into Standedge Tunnel. Providing beautiful scenery, varied freight and trains working hard up the hill, there aren’t many better places for a bit of trainspotting.
This month includes:
TPE Mk5 set rescued by Freightliners one and only 47
Class 40 D213 on a birthday private charter to York
Double DRS Class 37's on a railtour
Quick bogey fix on a Class 37 Test Train
Northern Belle
And much more...
Thanks for watching!

Loved seeing the 40 at full chat, all the memories from the 70's came flooding back 😆
Can’t imagine what it was like seeing those things regularly! Glad to bring you some nostalgia Phil haha.
Nice seeing the Brush to the rescue .
Always good to see the old ones come to the rescue!
@@DiggleJunction I used to work on them always loved the older locomotives
Just came across your channel mate... what a fantastic video. The aerial shots were great and the editing etc is tv quality. And what a fantastic place to film and live, beautiful scenery. You have a like and subscribe from me!
Ah cheers mate that means a lot as a lot of effort goes into the editing 👍🏻 very lucky to have such a nice backdrop for the vids around here. Great to have you along for the ride!
The drone sequence at 9.08 is superb
Cheers Robert, our drone pilot Will really is a wizard with that thing. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
A great one Luke, thanks a lot. Liked the speaker icon.
Cheers Bill, much appreciate the support as always. There was some clips that just called for it this month. I didn’t put one on the 68 coming out the tunnel at night because the horn would have busted eardrums haha.
nice video it allways amazeing that one loco can pull so many cars un real! the power thay have.
Cheers Dave, I think that’s one of the main reasons I do this, the power is awesome.
Excellent…… well done and Thank you
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate that 👍🏻
Great footage & awesome anon pics! Well done Luke!
Many Thanks Alasdair, love those pics, I’m very fortunate to know a good few people in the ‘biz’ thanks to this UA-cam lark.
Think that was one of your best Luke - absolutely brilliant stuff! The FL 47 is beautiful, I was expecting it to be in FL livery like the ones I photo'd back in the 90's! Cracking video again! Keith
Thanks a lot Keith, definitely no disagreement here from me. To be honest I wouldn’t have minded it being in the old FL livery, would definitely have made it more unique!
@@DiggleJunction That's true!
I enjoyed that footage thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it mate 👍🏻
ahhh the Brush type 4.... once regular performers along that line.... as well as the 56s! (now 57s) and the 37s of course! Cracking video that! need to stick our heads together again pal... :)
Wish I’d have been around for those days mate, bet it was class! Yeah for sure! 👍🏻
Great content as per mate thankyou what a great month for variety .!!👍👍
Thanks a lot mate, 100% one of the best episodes to date. Even after editing I’ve watched it over a handful of times! Always appreciate the support pal 👍🏻
Just seen your video come up and I’m glad I’ve come across your channel. Great content mate
Ah cheers Jack, thanks a lot. The UA-cam algorithm doing us a solid for once lol.
Good introduction, great sound, interesting content and well framed and lit footage in beautiful scenery. I’m surprised you’ve not got even more views. Great work!
Thanks very much mate, a lot of effort goes into those things so it’s great to see it’s noticed. Appreciate that, cheers.
I remember when the trains from Edinburgh the Glasgow were pulled/pushed by a 47 - that's a very evocative sound!
Good times mate, glad we can at least partially relive those days with the LS Scotrail push pull set.
VERY IMPRESIVE. THANK YOU
Thanks very much mate 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed it.
A lot to watch in this video!! 👍
Definitely was an epic one, cheers John!
Some Great thrashing locos there including 47830 rescuing 68031 fantastic
Love to see it mate, had to be the best sounding episode to date!
This has to be one of your best yet. Even your introduction was captivating.
Nice one Ken mate cheers, definitely agree it was one of the best yet. Hopefully Sept is just as good!
Thanks so much for another great selection, including the atmospheric night time action. Great seeing the added locations too!
Thanks a lot mate, been trying to think of some extra shots since loosing three of my favourite shots because of the new Network Rail yard.
Absolutely brilliant 👏 ariel shots breathtaking 🛤
Thanks so much, I love the drone shots, Will is a wizard at flying that thing around railways.
Brilliant video luke love 37s especially under stress and full throttle lol maybe look at Peterborough or crewe for 24 hrs or even up north like carlisle
Cheers mate, can’t beat the sound of a 37 in my eyes, or ears ha. Definitely considering Carlisle for the next one although would have to think where I could go when inevitably kicked out at night!
@@DiggleJunction carlisle do allow overnight spotters if you ask staff I think they leave the loos open lol
Yet another outstanding video luke, thanks for the massive effort 👍
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate the support as always 👍🏻
so annoyed i missed the 47 and the 40. i just cant keep track haha. Great video
I know the feeling mate I check for workings at the start of every day and still miss some!
Love the bridges shot Luke and the mix of content especially the 47 recovering the TPE! Congrats on the 250k, no surprise to me!❤
Cheers mate, definitely going to use that shot more just a minor risk of falling in the canal trying to get back down! 👍🏻
That was your best one ever mate 👌. Loved the new shots and the drone! And that 47 - wow!
Cheers Andy, I hadn’t realised what a good month it had been until I started stitching all the footage together!
Very enjoyable 👍
Thanks very much!
Thanks for putting these together, excellent, I managed to see the 70/66 trio passing through Stockport on the 4th, also 47830 has been to Stockport a few times, great to see a 47 still around
Cheers mate 👍🏻 yeah I guess you’ll get most of the stuff over there that comes through plus some extra stuff going to Manc.
Another superb video
Cheers Alan, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Another good one Luke. I am sure the 24's are helping the Diaries as it is quite apparent that your filming and editing techniques are improving in leaps and bounds. A really good watch this one.👍👍👍
Cheers mate I appreciate that, good to know because I don’t want things getting too stale.
Wow what a great video Luke, you really put the time and effort in, to produce these video’s and it shows.
Thanks John that means a lot as the editing and production is one of those things that I try to make stand out.
Could well be your finest work yet...and you caught the quad 66s in the best scenic location 😍 ...also, nice red shorts at Stalybridge 😉
Haha I got wind of it in the gym and ran outta there! Some things are more important than health and fitness 😂 cheers mate.
Another great video! I’d love to do the full Northern Belle ride in the future it’s high up on my bucket list
Thanks Katrina, same here it looks like a marvellous way to travel!
Nice video!
Appreciate the effort made in filming, editing and producing this.
I will be working my way through your back catalogue!
You have a like and a new sub!
Cheers Darren, it’s very much appreciated. Hope you enjoy going back through, you’ll have to let me know if you see any highlights 👍🏻
another great video Luke how good did the 37 sound and a class 40 happy days
Cheers mate, definitely worth staying up late for that 37 powering away!
Excellent channel and videos! For Carlisle action, I can recommend Leslie Gilpin Railways. Cheers from Australia
Thanks a lot mate, I’m a big fan of Les’, always plenty to see up there!
Great video luke you can see 47830 has been looked after especially as it was an ex gwr loco keep up the good work pal
Cheers Jamie, she’s a beauty inside and out for sure 👍🏻
Excellent as always Luke. No pressure for you to capture every tpe 68 working till December 😂
I’m on it mate! 😂
You should do a 24hr water orton .
Nice channel👍👍👍
Thanks Arnold, I’ve been put on to WO by a few people - I think perhaps a test run needs to be on the cards.
👍
Cheers mate 👍🏻
I highly doubt that the Nova 3's will be scrapped, as they're too new. They'll most likely go to either TFW or Chiltern Railways.
Would be shocked if they were, they’ll no doubt just go into storage till a new home is found. Not sure who would want to touch them after the near constant issues TPE have had with the mk5’s though. Genuinely believe if TPE had have gone the Chiltern route of mk3’s they’d have had a lot better reliability.
Are groundworks on the upside after Standedge for a feeder?
I’m not sure in all honesty mate. Seems like it’s prep work for signalling upgrades which are going on all down the route.
Did the exhaust fall off the network rail train and he was wiring it back on.
The old cable tie trick should sort it haha.
Why are the 68s going for hope they, don't scrap them
TPE are looking to streamline their fleet apparently and to be fair they’ve had a lot of issues with the mk5 sets. They won’t be scrapped, they just won’t renew the lease and they’ll go back to DRS 👍🏻
Thank goodness for the likes of 37's and 40's still being around. Otherwise no real sounding locos anymore.
Hopefully they stick around for many more years! Although do love the sound of the big cat 68’s.
👍
Cheers Elliott 👍🏻
