  • The Rolling Stones were on a roll! Between 1968 and 1972, they put out four albums that many fans say are their greatest, and some even say they're among the best rock albums ever made. Their last album in this amazing streak was a double album called "Exile on Main St." It was a wild ride to close out this epic period, just like you'd expect from the Stones.
Most folks know the story behind the album's name: the band had to leave England for a while because of high taxes, so they rented a place in France to make their music. But even though they were in Europe, the music on "Exile on Main St." is a mix of blues, soul, country, and rock - a sound that's all over the map in the best way possible.
Sometimes good things come in unexpected packages! 'Happy' is a fun song sung by Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones' guitar legend. Believe it or not, it all happened because Keith showed up early for a recording session! Lucky for us, he did because 'Happy' became a huge hit for the Stones and a staple of their live shows. They've played it over 500 times! In this song, Keith shows off his talents on not just vocals and guitar, but also bass! He's a true triple threat."

I’ve taught my almost 5 year old granddaughter that KEEF is the RIFF MASTER and the Rolling Stone are the greatest rock and roll band EVER. I think I’ve done well so far.

Proof that Keith IS the sound of the Stones. Even plays the slide. Sounds exactly like The Stones should.

Brian Jones the real true leader of the Rolling Stones, was the best slide guitarist in the Stones. Brian Jones was one of the first people in Britain to play slide guitar !

@@SuperAnimelover100 I'll give you that....but the "Mick Taylor" Bros" bash Keith at every turn, as if he's just a "side note". He wrote the damn songs, SANG harmony and lead, played many memorable solos when needed, produced the records. Taylor needed the Stones as a vehicle for his amazing soloing ability. But In the end Keith didn't really need anybody. This song and many others are proof.

Mick and Keith are noted for Ripping people off .Bill Wyman has said that he came up with the song Jumping Jack Flash distinctive main guitar riff on a piano without being credited for it. It's said Mick Taylor co wrote several songs such as , Moonlight mile , Winter and so on but got no credit. Marianne Faithful said Ruby Tuesday was Brian Jones, and that Keith Richards only added minor parts. People will rip you off.

@@SuperAnimelover100 Yeah I realize that. I've been in many groups myself where you come up with an idea/lyric in a jam and suddenly it's the front man's idea. In the same light they should be credited for giving Ronnie Wood credit for "Hey Negrita" and others. So they weren't all evil. They had the publishing company btw so much just got published under their name - no matter where kernels came from. Many bands were like that. And they wrote 20 brilliant songs for every one they stole. You seem to be on the "Bash Mick and Keith" wagon too. Face it. They are the Stones. Brian was the impetus and a great augmenter - but they are the core. Mick Jaggers lyrics are the best in Rock and overlooked. And he wrote them for "Ruby Tuesday" undeniably and THEY put the song in Epic category. - though Brian seems to have come up with some of the music (and it's beautiful no doubt) . He never wrote a lyric or a full song according to Keith and many others. Keith and Mick's lyrics and songs are some of the Best in 20th century music.

Byrds musician Gene Clark said Brian helped him write eight miles high but didn't want any credit for it. He wrote the Rice Krispies jingle. When asked if he could write songs , he replied Always tried. I've written quite a few, but mostly in blues style."
      His girlfriend Linda Lawrence stated,
"I remember the beam of light that flashed on his face when he wrote something he liked. Writing was a comfort to him. It was like talking to somebody. He was always writing poems and words for songs on little pieces of paper."
      Linda's mother Violet added,
"Oh yes! Brian would often sit up well into the early hours of the morning writing songs at the kitchen table. It was very important to him. And they were such good songs. Brian wrote the soundtrack to A DEGREE OF MURDER.

This one, along with "Connection" (1967 studio version), "Before They Make Run" (1978 studio version), and "Little T & A" (live 1981 from Hampton Colliseum) are my favorites tunes sung by Keith.

A limo driver for over 35 years told me that ALL of the Stones are nice guys. Mick was funny, Keith friendly and funny and the rest nice guys. But yeah, I have always envied that rock n roll hair of his back in the day. How could it possibly look THAT cool?! God only knows. Twenty-eight years old with a mansion overlooking the French Riviera --- How did he do that?!! Drives me nuts.

I should probably try to form a log continue examples of how the dichotomy of the lead vocalist doesn't work this is definitely one of those examples. Nothing against Mick Jagger, even though he's not one of my favorite singers, but Keith Richards definitely holds his own.

Merry Clayton could've made this song even greater! but they probably didn't want to wake her up again. 1:27 Happy is a much loved song but a "huge hit"? NO. "Featuring guitarist Keith Richards on lead vocals, it was released as the second single from the album in June 1972, entering the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 69 on 15 July 1972 and reached No. 22 on 19 August 1972."
