At that time Tomb Raider Legend was a great game and it was very cool for me, that they've made a Legend-Version out of the first game. Although now playing the remastered the old version is definitely better
When i was 8 my aunt got me the disk of tomb raider 2 for pc. I seriously enjoyed it and it was one of my best childhood memories. 3 years later, "santa" through my grandma, got me tomb raider 3 for psx (i cound never finish it) When that game came out, tomb raider one, being the one i had never ever played, i snatched it right away. It quickly became one of my favorite games in general and it is in -my annual rotation of games since 2013 i believe. I wish they would remake the rest of the original trilogy like this one Το this dαy ιτ is still one of the most beautiful games i have ever played.
I'm not sure they'll ever remake other games. Remasters are the ones we have got for the first 3 tomb raiders, and maybe we'll get for TLR and Chronicles. But, who knows
I thought Anniversary was great. Looked fantastic, fun update to the classic levels but with more action. The commentary by Toby Gard is great too, with the reveal that people thought the waterfall in Lost Valley was huge when it was really only 4 blocks high. Fantastic video!
I have played this before trying the original and I loved it and I think it's a good game but after playing the original I understood why people don't like it so much but still the game is good in my opinion 😌 I like you're honesty great work 👏💜
I’ve always felt this game was a lot better than most of the fanbase often make out, despite still being inferior to the original. I actually preferred the game making the fights with Larson and Pierre only happen in cutscenes or QTEs, partially because I don’t like combat with human enemies in the series, but also because those cinematics make Lara look really badass. Her fight with Larson especially and how she knocks him out at the end.
Haven't seen the full video yet so idk if you mention this, but considering Anniversary was my first TR along with Legend, holds a special place in my heart. However, after having played the classics and experiencing most of the TR experience, i can say the biggest takeaway from Anniversary are the checkpoints. I wish they wouldve removed them at least from the harder difficulty, and made you have to save on your own, or better yet implimented the save crystals from the original, that would make for a great challenge, but now all you have to do is unalive yourself after having found a checkpoint and boom, hp fully restored. Medipacks become completely useless outside of battle, and most normal enemies can be instakilled sooner or later with the focus shot in the eyes, which while a very flashy experience, is too easy to pull off and takes away any challenge.
@kristijan893 I saw yes, all points you made were extremely valid, which kind of begs the question if Anniversary is moddable in any way? We dont exactly have a level editor for it, at least i dont think, but shouldnt it be possible to create a modded difficulty and change some stuff around?
I very much enjoyed the Anniversary, from stunning visuals, level designs, puzzles etc, overall i found myself emmersed in the game and wanting to play it. Legend was kind of underwhelming for me and i hated Underworld for maaany reasons, I just couldn't wait to get it over with.
Tbh I like anniversary visual upgrade and level design than the original tr1. Sure they make anniversary levels shorter but some levels in the original one, like atlantis & pyramid, made me bored and tired with long ass corridor and platforming jump. Anniversary is a good treat for the fans with plus and minus gameplay aspect of its own. Btw, I always enjoy your Tomb Raider series retrospective as it is my fav game since I was young.

TR1 only had Larson, Pierre and Natla's lackeys as human enemies, even the mummies in Egypt used the same 3D model and animations as the atlantean mutants, TRA just repeated that
Its good but 1996 is better. This game controls are not trustworthy, her magnetized jumps are random, too many cutscenes spoil the moment (trex, mummy.. everything needs a f cutscene?), pressing buttons in cutscenes is not fun (make it optional). The game is alright but 1996 is almost perfect and this is no match.
scripted boss fights, a stupid back story that contradicts the original lara croft, convoluted levels full of trial and error deaths with a hit and miss control system, this game was a big disappointment for me, what did i like about it? lara looked amazing and the mansion level is great

i dont know why people hated this game so much. i played it in the time of its release, and i tought it was a very decent remake, specially the remade of Egypt levels. Yes, maybe they took away some parts, but added new ones, that make the game more interesting. i really like this game, even more than the awfull TR underworld, where lara movements are too unrealistic and camara too much annoying
Yes, Egypt levels look awesome.Maybe a room or two or puzzle or two more would make them even better. And yes, camera in the Underworld is really twitchy. They could have just copy paste this camera work from the Anniversary and that'd be it

Its good but 1996 is better. Positives: The mansion was the best mansion til that point! The graphics on ps2-3 were great, and the length was ok too.
I thought TRA was just meh. it's not a bad game but i just don't think it's as good as the original.
Original is still a superior experience, but this remake is very solid. Overall, I really can't complain
