CS dominated my high school life as well, although that was from 2002-06. There hasn't been a single esport that has lasted and thrived as long as CS has. The closest was probably starcraft, although that game has really burned out badly in the last 5 years. 20 years from now, today's fad games like apex, overwatch, and valorant will be distant memories with niche communities much like quake is today, but CS will still be there at the top of the pack! nah, the community and audience is completely different. Still a good game, but the community is no where near as good as it was because valve it's now hyper focused primarily on Chinese oriented micro transactions.
CS truly is special, every time I occasionally boot up the game again it's like meeting an old friend and nothing has changed. Barely play anymore but I still remember smokes, I still know how people play, and sprays are second nature. I think so many of us fell in love with CS cause it was so competitive at times it felt like a sport, the game was so simple the skill floor is in hell and the ceiling has yet to be found. I'm just now realizing how much I miss playing with my team, we were terrible no idea how we managed to get out of open but those guys made me laugh so hard it hurt. So many of my friends stopped playing because of the map pool changes myself included. Wouldn't say I'm in the community anymore so Idk if we're just boomers but everyone I still talk to who played quit or cut back playing because of that alone. To guys who have been around since the tec-9 was a rifle taking out classic maps like Train, Cobblestone, Cache, and now Dust II and replacing them with mediocre new ones is just lunacy.
I honestly don't see how people like Anubis and Ancient... they are way too complicated in layout, too much clutter (at least for Ancient). My stack pretty much only queues Mirage, Inferno and Cache now, but I enjoy most of the other maps too (they don't).

Amazing video, you captured the zeitgeist of 2014-2017 CS perfectly. I think about those days fondly - waking up at noon and grinding ESEA pugs, watching tarik/dazed/steel stream FPL, that amazing C9 run in summer 2015 (when I'm C9 video lmao), etc. Even all these years later as an adult, I wish I could go back to those days sometimes.

my friends all play valorant now so so do I but man do I miss cs sometimes, it just feels so right everything has been tweaked and balanced over a decades to a point that valorant feels too plastic and clunky at times
Yea CS feels literally perfect. Maybe Valorant can reach that level in the future (I doubt it, it can't be perfect because of Riot's design philosophy), but CS will always be peak tactical shooter.

I felt many things about this video but most apparent one is despair. Despair that these times won't come back, that we'll never expierence these things again like the first time however that makes me happy, all of those things we've been fortunate enough to expierence all those moments, every emotion that has come with them.
