Oh my gosh. THANK YOU!! I spent hours trying to navigate and understand the many Shopify apps for adding tabs onto product pages for ingredients. None of them made sense to me. This literally was the answer I need!!

@@theecomacademy well, looks like the metafields are not readable for my online store. I made contact with shopify support, and they told me that there are some dawn theme that does not support metafields like multiline text. i have online one line text available when I want to connect my metafields to my store…..

Thanks for this video. Could you take this one set further to then make a collection of products filterable by those custom metafields? For example: in a collection for coffee, you could set up a metafield for "Origin" with a set or pre-defined values to set for each product in that collection (Guatemala, Columbia, Mexico, etc). Then filter the collection by Coffee Origin, and the user can see only all coffees from "Columbia."

This is often built into the theme, check to see if your theme has badges on it

Hey, this one is helpful thanks, but what if my product has variants which will update the details (7:06)... Let's say I wanted to display product weight and your soap has 100g and 200g variants. Can that be linked to automatically update along with the variant picker?
Can this metafield information be added via a bulk product import CSV file? And if so, what do your column headings need to match?

Is there a way to populate the metafield value directly to product import csv file? After creating the metafield and downloading the csv file template, i do not see any column headers for the newly created metafields. Would bulk editing via admin portal be the only way to do this? This vid is GREAT btw and such useful content. Cheers mate!
Yes! Manually add a value to the metafields on one product, then export the data from the product export. You will then see a new column with the metafields
Is there a way to format this text? It seems to be plain text only and I would like to add bullet points and bold text. Pasting HTML doesn't work unfortunately.

hey, how do you turn off metafields on certain products? Like you suggested, you wouldn't need an ingredients metafield for a toothbrush, so how do you prevent it from showing on that product page?
You would need to create these as different product templates.
Add the metafield to the template you want and remove it from the other.
So in your case you would create a 'toothbrush' template
How can I add a custom name field that doesnt appear on every product? i've watched 'custom liquid' videos but this puts it on every product and not all my products can be customised. please help! thank you for this video though, it helped me add the ingredients at least!
You use product templates to achieve this
hey quick question: I noticed that since you added the metafield 'ingredients' to the product pages, that specific metafield was still visible on the toothbrush page. Should a certain metafield not be applicable to all products, how do you use metafields without having metafield sections on products that don't require them?

Yes you do that using product templates. You can then bulk update using the bulk update action directly in Shopify
Thanks for the video. You said you did the 'Best Sellers', etc labels with metafields. But they are also in colour. So how did you add them? As a file? or are they metaobjects?
These are text fields, so it's real text with CSS to style them like that

I want to make my product descriptions different for all of my products but I’m getting nowhere, when I used metafields, I can’t store anymore single/multi line text to another meta field due to the metafield limit being 20 am I doing something wrong? Or is this another flaw with Shopify
Metafields aren't designed for long form content. Why aren't you using the product description field in the main product section?
Alternatively you could link to page content if you need longer content.
