    Dana 35 in a TJ is a timebomb. You can beat on them but they will eventually fail if you trail ride. In the YJ it has better survival due to the spring perches being farther out from the carrier and under the axle. Trussing a 35 helps but the 8.8 is just a better more cost effective option.

    Air the tires down next time. Free traction. The skinny pedal is not always the answer

    Of you look the TJ has either a locker or limited slip in at least the rear end. The YJ has open diffs. This isn't a fair comparison.

    True I did the same when I went up to 37-13.50 pitbulls. But with the giant pumpkin on them I can feel the loss in ground clearance which ultimately decides what you can go threw or over. I find myself wishing I kept the 35 and upgraded it every since I switched

    It always shocks me watching people spin out on big solid rocks. You would think that even with the tires at standard PSI they would still get better traction than on loose dirt etc.

    I thought when in 4wd front tires would turn same as rear. There are times in this video when 2nd jeep looks like rear are spinning and front not rotating at all???

    • @domeslacker
      @domeslacker  9 років тому +5

      Tom Nelson
      That's because the differential is an "open" differential. Although it is in 4wd, the power shifts over to the side with least traction. So you'll see the tire not spinning, but on the other side it is. This is why standard 4wd is not enough and lockers are required to ensure that all 4 tires spin.

    I drive a 2002 Wrangler X with 31" tires out here in Arizona. My wife and I along with our fellow Jeepers have hit some of the worst trails and terrain that the Arizona Desert has to offer...and I have NEVER damaged my Jeep or snapped the D35 or D30 up front. You need to know what you can do and CAN'T do with a TJ...pure and simple. Might I suggest that these off roaders invest in a good winch...so when you are stuck...you winch your ass out and SAVE your Axles...and LEARN how to OFF-ROAD. Just my humble opinion...

    • @domeslacker
      @domeslacker  7 років тому

      Thomas Halley We're still not sure how his dana35 stood up to that. Likely was the fact that the tires are narrow and lighter than the standard 33x12.5. And luck. I say luck because I've had friends blow dana35s on the street running larger tires.

    • @thomashalley7258
      @thomashalley7258 7 років тому

      I ran my Wrangler with 33x12.50 cougaria m/t's and I never had a problem till the trans started grinding even with a fresh clutch and flushing clutch hydro system. Short of bouncing a locker in a stock 35 they probably won't give any issues. Now if I had run a 35 I'd probably have blown it out.

      White TJ has a 4cyl with 3spd auto. High pinion Dana 30 and 8.8 rear. 4.56 gears on 33s. Eaton locker up front and now an ARB out back.
