"What is the wanderer's name?" "It matters not. His efforts were not for the cause of creating a legend for himself." What a fantastic answer to the question. Nice job on the video!!
Excellent video. This was the game that showed me video games are art. I was so used to the good guy saving the day, getting the girl, and credits rolling. So when those credits rolled..I was taken aback. It really challenged me when I was young and it still stands as my favorite game of all time. Each time I play it I just love it that much more.
Loved the video, definitely deserves more attention! Just a little side thought. As Dormin is “Nimrod” backwards, Emon is “Nome” backwards, or gnome, implying the Colossi are in fact normal humans and it is the villagers who are small. This is also proof that Emon, or Emong as I will now call him, is the boy from The Last Guardian, because boy was small, and thusly Trico was normal bird-cat size. Or perhaps Emong was Ico, implied by his head wrapping covering what were once his little gnome horns. Either way, Wander travels to the land of giants and becomes a big and strong boy to save Mongnome.
I don't think of Dormin as Satan. Satan would never have told Adam & Eve "should you eat this fruit you may pay a heavy price". Satan is too manipulative to ever take such a chance that his own warning might foil his evil plans. You could say Dormin manipulated Wander, but Dormin also warned Wander of the heavy price he may pay, plus Dormin kept his word & brought Mono back to life. It really seems like Dormin just wanted to be free again. Whether or not it's for reasons of pure evil is left up to us to decide. Nice review/discussion.
It's not a perfect metaphor, and yes I do think you are correct. I just thought it worked in the context of larger symbolism and the archetypes that come with it. I was more referencing the root of those types of symbologies.
@@dutchritz I understood it was a metaphor. I just felt the need to comment. Dormin gets a bad rap & I'm not so sure it's warranted. However, should Dormin actually be evil, then your belief that Mono becomes the Queen in "ICO" would make perfect sense. Dormin could have foreseen what Mono would become, & therefore was more than happy to grant Wander's wish. It's just nice to still be discussing this game 19 years after it's release. Agro, not Argo. :)
It is really nice to still be talking about it... I had somebody correct me as far as agro's name in an earlier comment... It's just the way I always heard it with wander's accent, should have paid attention to the spelling a little bit better because I know I'll get a lot more shit the more people watch this 😂
I know, it was a mistake I missed when reviewing the edit. Also, the way Wander pronounces his name in the game made me not realize this for many years, so I often say it wrong as a force of habit.

It's so deep and layered and nuanced.

👍
It is not pronounced as Ai-co, it's pronounced as Ee-co.
Nitpicky much?
@dutchritz Yes. That's how the developers pronounce it.
@@Aczie042 The developers are Japanese, so I doubt there say it exactly how it's translated in english. It's not a big deal dude.
