@dutchritz But that's a point for or against game Jedi Academy, a game which I love.

Idk I think the expanded universe was blossoming at that time with games, books and shows. The movies were mid in many ways but late 90s-mid 2000s had a great volume of content. A lot of that content elevated the bad movies too.

That's a fair opinion to have. It is a fairly formulaic story structure in these games, but I think the performances and writing are fairly decent. The Next Generation is a very high standard though for comparing most media to writing wise. I feel bad for Star Trek fans these days as well, the shows will never be the same.

I should clarify too, the overall story is great! I love morally grey characters, and bode should have resonated with me more. But the moment to moment character interactions did feel natural they felt written which caused this disconnect for me, I could have enjoyed this much more than I did

They believe certain emotions lead to the dark side. Fear, anger, hate... Natural human emotions that need to be worked through.

That is what they do; work through those emotions, and then let them go, rather than hold onto them. They dont say 'stop feeling', but rather, things like 'be mindful of your feelings', or 'dont focus on your anxieties'. Sensible stuff.

@@smartalec2001 to an extent, but Anakin was literally reprimanded for having attachment in several instances. This was literally the reason that he turned to the Dark Side. Yoda tells him that attachment leads to jealousy and that it's the shadow of greed. Intimacy and jealousy are important elements of close relationships, but the Jedi's philosophy views them as greed? Having a natural jealousy for your significant other is not a bad thing in all cases, and the fact that Anakin didn't feel comfortable enough to ask for assistance in getting his mother back is very telling as well. I would say there is plenty of precedent for saying that the Jedi actively promoted the idea of suppressing and abstaining from emotions.

@@dutchritz well, the Jedi clearly aren't robots. They smile, they laugh, they tell dry jokes, they're pleased to see people. They get anxious, annoyed at times, but that's ok because they're able to take a breath, relax. They're not against emotion, they know it's natural. They simply try to keep things light (pun not intended). When it comes to an attachment, that's not the same thing as a relationship, or a connection. The Jedi know everything is connected, that's how the Force works. What they try and do is open themselves up and feel the world around them, to let the Force flow in and out. They practice letting emotion flow away because it clogs you up and makes it hard to be open; even if repressed. They try not to get too focussed on something that they can't feel everything else. What was going on with Anakin was that he started getting too inside his own head. Rather than being open, and feeling the relationship between him and Padme, he started closing up and focusing not on her, but how he felt about her. It became less about her, and more about his internal thoughts and feelings. He couldn't focus on her in the here and now, because he was too fixed on the past and future, and trying to control them. That's attachment. An anchor pulling you down into yourself. That's the point when things become obsessive and toxic. Some slight jealousy is one thing, but being so wound up and in his own head as to rationalise committing multiple murders is another entirely! In short, Anakin didn't fall because he followed the Jedi way, but rather, because he didn't.

I was actually really impressed by the speed disney torpedoed the entire franchise. I expected one or two trilogies they couldnt get through 2/3 of one without flopping the entire thing. It literally sells itself like Dune.

Well, we don't have to accept Đi$n3y's "movies" as canon.

I wish Disney explored novel concepts that were briefly mentioned in the canon, such as Grey Jedi. Imagine if they had made a new storyline set after RoTJ where a school of Grey Jedi who were inspired by the initial Je'daii was created, and the potential diplomacy, conflict and resolutions that could occur between them, the sith and jedi in that era, as well as the philosophical and spiritual questions regarding the force that could be explored by these new characters.

It was the one game in the series I didn't play, and the comment section is definitely letting me know it 😂

Legends stories, like this game, weren't considered canon by Lucas. He only counted the films and Clone Wars.

@@Avenger85438 That’s just false propaganda. Lucas had multiple references to the EU in his six movies. The Outrider cameo from Shadows of the Empire in episode IV. Aayla Secura from the Republic comics in episodes II and III. Obi Wan mentions Quinlan Vos and the defeat at Salucami from the Republic comics in episode III. Coruscant appeared in multiple EU stories before the prequels.

Yeah, maybe over the years more creative control will be given to individuals and it'll be less micromanaged by people like Kathleen Kennedy. I don't really ever see them selling it off as an IP though.

@ I don’t see it either… it honestly just kills me though…. Luke in this game embodied the type of person he would’ve actually become after the empire. This version of Luke truly brought balance to the force. The sequels completely undermined every aspect of the originals. They turned something timeless into corporate slop.

@dutchritz I mean in terms of mainstreaming computer-generated imagery, and developing a lot of new technologies, yes, I would agree with that. However, the movie's over relied on a technology that just wasn't there yet, and a lot of the stuff, particularly in episode 1 and 2, just didn't age well. And that's comparing it to contemporary works that use CGI in a more restrained fashion, like Jurassic Park and Lord of the rings.

@dutchritz the level of prequel hate among so-called "real fans" back in the 2000s was INSANE. Like you couldn't throw a rock on the internet without hitting some forum post about how the movies make no sense (they don't) or how the effects suck (they do) and how the pre-1998 EU books were so much better, blah blah. You get the picture. The only thing missing was people whining about politics, and I'm sure someone was doing that. Point is, time is a flat circle. Star Wars fans are impossible to please, and I say this as someone who is a lifelong fan

@@TomQuoVadis Yeah, I kinda have to criticize old Star Wars for that. For all the shit we give Rey for being a Mary Sue or a bad character, we kinda have to look at some of the BS output that Legends did back in the day. We had characters effectively transcending themselves into godlike Force wielders that would make Marvel or DC do a double take. Not saying Disney Star Wars is perfect, but I think people tend to wear a bit of the rose tinted glasses on how much quality was actually in the Legends era. There was a *lot* of chaff in between the wheat of the glory days that we know and love.

The Disney situation has killed it for me in many ways... My immersion into the world is totally broken.

Idk, i think theyre really setting up Cal Kestis to be the disney version of Katarn, if they have one at all. If they manage to stick the landing with their next game ill be all for it. I was neutral on the character for most of Fallen order, but Survivor really sold me on him. Hes literally the only character introduced since disney bought the franchise that i give a single damn about. Honestly I'll be disappointed if they dont find a way to call Jedi 3 some sort of variant of Jedi: Knight or Jedi: Outcast cause it feels like such a easy layup.

@ I'd argue there's one proper use of that term, and that is, as a slang for jedi that simply delved into gray area use of the force, but kept their morals and objectives grounded in the light. There is no such thin as a Gray Jedi Faction, and honestly there doesn't need to be one.
