  • Australians living with disabilities are urge the government to rethink
the machine to introduce compulsory independent assessments as part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
As things stand, potential applicants submit reports from their own specialist doctors, therapists and so forth and then they are evaluated by the National Disability Insurance Agency.
From this year, there is a new process. Applicants also undergo an independent assessment by a contractor employed by the government.
Dr George Taleporos is the Acting Chair of the Victorian Disability Council. He participated in the pilot process for the panel assessments and he says it was a very confronting experience.
Also in this clip: Craig Wallace, Head of Policy at ACTCOSS, and Oliver Hunter, stand-up comedian.
