  • At the beginning of World War II, from October to December 1939, the Baltic-Germans emigrated from Latvia. They were the third largest, one of Latvia's wealthiest, politically most organised and nationally unified minorities. Their emigration was the direct consequence of the non-aggression pact concluded on 23 August 1939 between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.
