- How much time do you need to make connections at Frankfurt Airport? Well over 2 hours!
This video was my connection experience arriving from Vancouver taking a connection to Vienna Austria.
The flight was delayed landing, then because of no gate availability taxied and parked in a remote area where we had to bus to the terminal. Going through immigration, security and the walk to the gate meant arriving only just before the flight started boarding.
I am a fast walker with a backpack only and no issues at immigration or security. Also it was not overly busy either at immigration or security. Others from my flight took longer to get to their connections and some didn’t make it in time.
If you are booking connections thru Frankfurt, leave a minimum of 3 hours between flights.

I agree! We just came back from Germany (Sept 23)our first trip there. Our flight started in Tampa to Nuremberg. The first flight took us to Dulles, then to Frankfurt with 1 hour and 15 minutes to catch our flight to Nuremberg, we are 66 and 64 in great shape. We made it barely it was very stressful. I think it was at least a half mile to walk to our gate. Same thing going back to Tampa 2 hour layover in Frankfurt plus this time we had to go thru security. We just made it. You need 3 hours minimum if you don't want to stress out.😮
Thanks for posting the video. It is very helpful. We will be going to Zurich via Frankfurt from Toronto in September. We only have a 2 hours window and hopefully we get lucky and be able to make it to our flight to Zurich.
Very helpful video, thanks!
thank you!
Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤
Very helpful video 👍
Glad it was helpful! thank you!
Always miss our connection in Frankfurt
The video can be helpful for first-timers. Frankfurt airport is very large and indeed can be confusing, but you just need to follow the signs. Recently I made a less-than 2 hour connection between a flight from Brasil and a Schengen country (with a security check) and a 1 hour 15 minute transfer between a flight from London (so, non-Schengen but also without a security check) to a Schenghen country, and in both cases I waited at the gates for the departing flights, with a lot of spare time. During your transfer you seem to purposefully bypass all the moving walkways - is there an underlying reason for it, or is it just for the "show", to demonstrate that it can really take two hours to transfer? The moving walkways are meant to help the traveller and are to be used if you want to make the connection. You also seem to have stopped in some areas for no apparent reason.
Two weeks ago we flew into Frankfur and arrived at the Z gates and had to transfer to gate C-4. It only took us a little over 30 minutes to make our connection. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was.
Glad you had a fast an easy experience. I think many do, but unfortunately there is the potential for longer times when it's busy and how it's structured, particularly if a plane parks on the tarmac instead of a gate.
@@yvrtravels True...we were on a 747 so no Tarmac! We were going to Israel so once we got to the gate we had to go through a pretty thorough security process. That's our 2nd time to fly through Frankfurt and both times on Lufthansa.
@yvrtravels It is kind of ridiculous not have a 747 unload their passengers at a gate with a jetway and use buses instead.
@@ohcanadaeh unfortunately they just do not have enough gates for the number of flights, it's fairly common.
Que bien me iso ver este video. Tengo que viajar a república checa y hacer conexión en frankfurt. Como no se inglés tengo un poco de dudas .para pasar al otro avión soy argentina
Next time take a train! :) Because the connection is good aswell
Small correction... the passport control you went through was actually in Area B, not Z. The Z concourse is on top of the A concourse.
oops, my mistake. I do find their concourse letters and gate numbering somewhat confusing.
@@yvrtravels It's really easy and "logical" as you would expect from a German airport. Concourse A, Z, B and C are in Terminal 1 and Concourses D and E in Terminal 2. If you would enter Terminal 1 from the outside, Gates A are to your right, B right in front of you, C to your left and then it continues in that direction with D and E. Z is called Z since it's directly on top of A! It all makes sense if you look at it on a map.
First time traveller to Europe, I'm transiting here to France in a few weeks, after immigration and all do i have to get all of my luggage from baggage claims to check in to next flight or just my hand luggage?
I believe checked in luggage goes straight to your next flight as I did not see any area to pick up luggage while going thru the transit area. But I am not 100% sure as I only have carry on baggage.
@@yvrtravels thanks for your response
@@VERA_OGELE Good luck, safe travels and hope you have an enjoyable time in Europe
Is Transit visa necessary for Indian passports holder onward connecting to london??
I do not believe you need a transit visa if you are connecting to London, but you would still go through a security and customs processing to get to the other gates in the airport. but best to check with your airline.
I checked and the information I found has a list of countries that need a transit visa in Germany and India is on that list.
Did you take transit visa??z
Do you have to go through immigration if you are just connecting there?
Yes, if you are coming from an international destination outside of the EU.
You don't need to go through immigration if you transit from Non-Schengen to Non-Schengen.
Bizarre they could not find an open gate for this wide body. Although if you are an aviation geek - the bus ride would be a bonus.
It's not unusual to not have an open gate, even for a wide body. They haven't had enough gates for the amount of flights for years. Hopefully relief will come when the new Terminal 3 opens in 2026.
@@yvrtravels 21:46 Is that separate security lines for Economy vs Premium classes?
@@DavidChapmanAZ It is a separate line for Gold Level. This is Business and First Class, but also members of Star Alliance Gold, even if they are flying economy.
Hai Ma'am i am travelling to Philippines From UK and lay over at frankfurt airport and from Frankfurt to Bangkok and to Philippines
Do i need a transit visa for Self Transfer?
I dont have any Luggage just only bagpack..
Hoping for your response.
Thank you
You will need to go through Passport control, but generally you don't need a transfer visa, but it is very important you check directly with the airlines as they have the most up to date information about what you may or may not need
@@yvrtravels Thank you very much Ma'am for the information
