Really nice crossing, I love the old Griswold barriers and lights. Interesting how they left one pair of old Western Cullen Hayes lights. Well done for filming in the nasty weather, most people (including me) probably would have chickened out!
Yep, The weather was so bad those two weeks of that school holidays that i ended up going and filming up in Palmy instead. Now that setting where the bells stop before the barriers lift, I think it was just a trial in the finnish, Because i have noticed level crossings that have been upgraded recently don't have that setting on them, Roberts Line, Tangiwai e.t.c, And i think it's the same story with the e-bell upgrades in Levin also, It's no longer being done.
My dad told me the white flashing lights inside the bells are there for the train driver to see. Because the driver cannot always see the red flashing lights to make sure they're working, so that must be what the white lights are for.

Yes thanks for your comment. I like the Griswold Barriers and Lights too as well as the Old Western Cullen Hayes Lights.
Yeah they are really nice
But bad news is that this crossing is currently being replaced :(
@@mkasrailwaysliftsmore8005 I already knew that
Wow! It seems to be constantly raining in NZ! Interesting old lights. Good video.
Thanks. I shot this video in the school Holidays and the weather was absolutely terrible.
Woah, a Griswold base! That's rare!
They are quite common here in New Zealand
Lift & Rail Photography In NZ well hope to get a trip there sometime then!
These Griswold barriers are now starting to get less and less common as KiwiRail are slowly phasing them out.
As of January 2022 this Level Crossing has now been replaced and has got all Western Cullen Hayes equipment.
I looked at this crossing on Google Maps. The white paint on the backs of the Griswold signals is now black.
LeaveTheMark Yes I’m fully aware of that.
