Saw an interview with Severn where he said that he could've escaped that triangle but it would've involved slamming Gracie on his head/neck and he didn't want to take the chance of crippling Gracie. Don't know how true that is but its cool insight.
@@chrismaynard8600 That sounds like an excuse since he was happy to back suplex an opponent on the back of his head/neck earlier that night and we’ve seen plenty of people taking slams from an attempted triangle in other fights since then without serious injury. Interesting to hear though.
Art Jimmerson apparently is currently a boxing coach at the UFC Performance Center in Las Vegas, so he must not be THAT much of a joke to the UFC itself, if not the MMA community.
Yeah but he is a joke in the boxing community, never was a world champion never beaten a former world champion or any other type of elite boxer lost his 7th fight by TKO against a bum with a record of 2:2 and won against guys with losing records such as 1: 24, 12: 27 and 8:28.

I always thought that the Shamrock fight is the one that truly could have gone either way in UFC 1, so arguably one of the pivotal moments in the history of BJJ, or in determining the future popularity of BJJ
Well Shamrock should have won by disqualification as soon as Royce used his Gi. Weapons weren’t allowed, they told Shamrock he can’t use his shoes as it’s a weapon. UFC1 was a sham.
They originally wanted Bas Rutten to be in UFC 1, but he couldn't due to Pancrase stuff, and suggested his friend Gerard Gordeau instead. Truthfully, if Bas signed up, who did have BJJ experience, I think the future of MMA may look very... different.
Both would’ve been far more representatives of Karate more so than BJJ, and with Bas even Muay Thai had more impact than that did, butI know you guys love to steal the credit from other martial artist like GSP
@@DADRB0B55 I don't know what you mean by this? I was more thinking that Bas would have probably won UFC 1, assuming he didn't match up with Shamrock, and if Royce didn't win, there is no UFC.
@@ArtworkByBoneless I mean Bas would have been experienced in many styles, Bjj is one but even styles that people discredit in mma like karate and boxing heavily contributed to Rutten and other well rounded fighters, although yeah Ken might still smash.. if he had his wrestling shoes
@@AztecUnshaven Pretty much my thought too. I actually said he'd probably have won, as long as he didn't get matched up with Shamrock. His shoot boxing and understanding of positioning would have been enough to utilize his 60 lbs weight advantage and massive reach on Royce.
Yeah 💯. Your combination of mma skills far surpasses whatever they had. Your bjj might not be to the level of royce but punching kicking takedown and the way you integrate all those skills makes you lethal back then. Winner of ufc 1....Ramsey Dewey!
@@bradanderson4192 Royce had no leglock game, because BJJ at the time *almost* considered it cheating. (Kind of like in Muay Thai in Thailand elbows are legal but historically seen as a bit sketchy... most fight wouldn't use elbows at all, unless someone starting throwing them and then everybody would start throwing elbows) This was intended to reduce injuries, because the Thai dudes fight 50 times per year.
I don't think I can beat any of these guys in the UFC.. Some of them have terrible striking, but I have no wrestling.. People forget UFC fighters are the best guys around. The best of the best. Even if they are not a top ranked fighter, they are still dangerous. They do not have the full kit and would lose in more specialized competition, but in the MMA, they are the best.
Bellator & ONE fighters are pretty solid. UFC isn't "the best of the best", UFC just have more good fighters than One and Bellator... There are still guys there that could easily beat Top 5 UFC's fighter.
I would not say this whole thing is a brag or something. In previous video you said you would squash without any issue your previous and younger self. So over time people who put the effort to improve get better (it would be quite sad if it didn't), so being able to at one point outperform even historical world champion in some certain field is not bad. It shows how we grow. The whole MMA is a fairly new sport historically speaking and it's still improves rapidly. I bet that in 20 years or so the trends will be even more refined and would watch at the strategies and today's competitors as 'good for their time'.
MMA was at its peak and the fighters were at their most skilled when the Greeks were training the world with Pankration. The first and only MMA of this planet came from the Greeks and it's called Pankration.
The Undertaker (Mark Calaway) was thinking of join cage fighting when it first came out But decided there wasn't enough money in the sport so he joined WWF
Jordan's channel has helped my jiujitsu IMMENSELY. He just always repeats the important small concepts during rolls ("get dominant grips", for example). So helpful.
This is an interesting question. The Gracie strategy is one of the most effective ones ever invented. I think that many modern day MMA fighters would not be as successful as Royce was. The Gracie strategy was more focused on self defence (I.e) minimising taking damage than trying to win a fight. Thus the claims by grandmaster Helio that he had never lost a fight. The Gracie strategy is essentially to shut down someone’s offensive capabilities. By attacking your opponent you expose yourself to counter attacks…….so the Gracie strategy would be more effective for a smaller person to use if he or she wants to take minimal damage.
I don't know, I think most modern decent mma fighters would basically tear through them. People have just gotten to much better, the sport has evolved incredibly quickly.
Royce didn't do anything wrong, mma just didn't exist in it's modern form back then. Fighters like Ramsey or any other modern mma fighter have a multitude of skills standing and on the ground, but most importantly they have the transitions from one to the other. Also stamina is determined by how often you have done a movement, so mma fighters nowadays would outlast the competitors back then as they've spent an incredible amount of time going through the movements necessary for mma. And then last but not least, knowledge accumulates over time, even a lot of fans nowadays know more about mma than most fighters back then, for the simple fact that mma didn't exist back then.
Fun fact... there was a young Hung Gar Kungfu fighter in the early No Holds Barred UFC Tourneys, and he was really good, he won both of his bouts with a fast finish. His name is Onassis Parungao. A lot of people didn't see him on the taped UFC events though, because there were some bouts that were considered "UFC Alternate bouts" and they were not on the "main" card. Not much money involved at that time so he fought over in a Russian MMA organization afterwards. Great guy, and very savvy on both old school Gongfu lineage history and modern Sanda and combat sports. I met him back in 2007, super chill guy, he used to train with Cung Le back in Cung's early Sanda/Sanshou days too.
@@AztecUnshaven I saw the videos of all three fights some years ago beat the wrestler Francesco Maturiago and Pavel Byshiv( I think a taekwondo fighter). Ricardo Morais was a monster though 122.47 KG and 6'8 foot tall.
Royce didn't use the gi the choke Ken Shamrock. That is a myth made up by shamrock. If you watch the video back you can see that Royce used an unconventional rear naked choke to finish the fight.
Manocchio Ichihara in UFC two was/ is a kudo black belt. At the time Kudo was still considering itself a form of karate (Daido Juku Karate) . Nowadays it’s Kudo as to distinguish itself from karate-do.
Myself, probably not. It has less to do with the martial arts themselves and more to do with their dedication to training. These guys train hard physically every day. Some of us have regular jobs and a limited amount of time for training (physically FOR a fight. In theory, as warriors, we should always be training at some level).
Interesting video Ramsey! I remember watching UFC 1 back in 1993 when I was 19 years old, and thinking it was going to be a standup tournament. Seeing Royce get those grappling wins was really new, and had me interested how he would win the next one. If it was a standup tournament in UFC 1 and 2 who do you think would have won?
7:22 So with his judo, wrestling, kickboxing and all the other styles he mixed, Bruce would probably kneestomp the hell out of this guy from a safe distance, or shoot a takedown and choke out, or armbar him, or heel hook, etc. According to Gene Labell, Bruce was a good grappler and he sparred with Pro kickboxers; I'm not saying he would win the tournament, but he definitely would be able to take down a boxer, back then especially. Anybody with decent distance management and grappling skills could. I'm just saying, a completely untrained person can tackle someone who just boxes and ground-and-pound them...even though people inflate and exaggerate Bruce Lee's capabilities, doesn't mean we can't look at his actual skills, physicality and training, for what it was. Just because people think Bruce was a God, doesn't mean we have to act like he was trash, people; he wasn't either...I'm not saying that to anyone specifically, just in general
A completely untrained person has a much better chance of kicking a BJJ black belt in the wedding tackle than he has of rushing from a distance and tackling some fit boxer to the ground IMHO. When you write "tackle" I'm assuming you're talking about someone accelerating football style and crashing against the other person. You have time to react if somebody bum rushes you like that (there's actually a famous video where this incredibly athletic TKD guy jumps over a big guy Tekken style who bum rushes him in the octagon*) but if a regular gym guy sucker punches the olympic judo champion on the street I'm putting my money on the regular gym guy who has done bag work. Any normal person will close their eyes, turn their head and take the punch unless they are a boxer; punches happen scary fast. If somebody grabs you, you are not in pain or peril and can use your muscle or strikes to escape. *Sadly because of the massive weight mismatch the TKD guy was badly hurt afterwards but to this day that's possibly the most incredible athletic feat I have seen on video relating to martial arts. There's a move in Tekken 3 where the Chinese woman fighter jumps over the opponent and kicks them in the back of the neck on her way down. It seems cartoonish and highly unrealistic but this TKD guy did it for real. It would be an easier feat for a callous and cold blooded person to jump on the head of someone who went for a double leg and possibly paralyze or kill them.
@@miesvaillanykyisyytta3252 tao of jkd has many takedowns used in MMA: double/single leg takedowns, judo trips and throws, jab to takedown, etc. Lee trained with champion wrestlers and judokas, like Gene Labell. When two boxers get into a street fight they often clinch and then the fight turns into a grappling fight
@@edstringer1138 yeah sure I'd agree with that, but I'm saying Bruce had a good takedown and grappling game, according to the excellent grapplers he trained with; so Bruce would have quite the few advantages, especially over a pure boxer back in the day. Not just in striking, but in grappling too
Without watching the video my bet: 1. Tkd kick, insta kill 2. Knock down via punching, 20 seconds 3. 3 times suplex, 30 seconds 4. Heelhook does work, win beetween 40 seconds
If Marco Ruas had been allowed into ufc1 I think it would have been a very different story, his background in Lutre Livre and capoeira, he was like from the other side of Brazilian martial arts with a lot of vale tudo experience and bigger than Royce as well as training in BJJ, I think the Gracie's were nervous with him as an element, considering UFC 1 was basically supposed to be a infomercial for BJJ.
Hi Coach Ramsey I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU, CAN I MAINTAIN MY BOXING SKILLS JUST BY TRAINING AT HOME OR SHOULD I FOCUS MORE ON STRENGTH INSTEAD? I am a college student and I don't have enough time to go to the gym and train. But I do love to train just for the fun of it and making progress. I've trained in Shotokan karate in high school for about 2 years and boxing ever since. I've been boxing for about 1 year now. though I haven't been in a real match ever I did use to spar quite intensely in my gym. The sparring sessions are what I miss the most but I do train from home. I also love training outdoors whenever I get the chance. My workouts usually involve bodyweight movements , heavy bag work and a lot of cardio up to 45mins per session(what can I say I just feel like running sometimes). I try to work out 5 days a week when I don't have exams going on. So can I keep my skills and improve as a boxer by training by myself or should I focus more on strength training instead?
Yes and no. You can maintain stamina and refine basic skills like your basic punches but you won’t have anyone checking your bad habits if you are training them and you need to constantly be sparring other people to keep your reactions and reaction time up to speed. Shadow boxing can only do so much, nothing is quite like having a real opponent in front of you.
I pretty much agree with what the other guy said you can definitely maintain your skills and depending on some of your mental traits you can even improve I recommend doing film studies study the film of boxers that have a similar style to you / to what you're trying to become or have something you wanna add to your style and study them and add there movements into your shadowboxing and heavy bag work I think with enough devotion you can definitely get better training only at home (especially if you can fin da friend to spar with even just light sparring) but training at an actual boxing gym is superior also if you can record your self shadowboxing or hitting the bag and think if you fought you what would you do to exploit your openings and whatever openings you find fix them
Hey Coach, I've always had a question that I've wanted to ask you because I think you're one of the few people who might have a real answer for an arguably silly question. There are a lot of fighting styles that don't hold up to reality, but what if we take the area of the pressure test out of reality. If you factor in super powers priorities become different. An example I always go back to is someone like the Flash could build a fighting style around Aikido and boxing with minimal takedown defense and no kicks. The logic is with super speed you could get the perfect position with perfect timing that aikido requires but a leg injury or being on the ground would completely neutralize the major advantages of the powers so you'd just learn enough grappling to never go to the ground. But with that as an example what are some other "bad techniques" can you think of that might be ideal in a reality that isn't ours used by someone who is more than human. Also a friend suggested a Collab between you and another Chinese UA-camr and I'm going to suggest it to you as well. But Naomi Wu was planning a video on fighting. He suggested you to her I'm suggesting her to you.
That's a good question I love it I might have to steal that video idea lol you can literally make any fighting style work with the right super powers (including no touch) I love super speed as a power to pair with martial arts because if you have a big enough speed advantage over someone you can do pretty much whatever you want to them
I had an 18-2 amateur MMA run in the early 2000s and at that time I think I could've done ok in UFC at that time, but if I were in my prime and at that same level of training right now, I'd likely loose to everyone in today's UFC seems the sport has evolved so much in that time. If I were to go in now at 40yo after have a torn LCL and ACL in my knee, broken ribs, fingers, toes, tendonitis etc...I'd just get creamed by anyone in the UFC maybe even the girls.
About Ron Van Clief... people forget he was 51 years old and way passed his prime by the time he entered the UFC. He's a legit old school Karate guy, and had full contact experience in his younger years. So an interesting question stands, how would a 51 year old Royce Gracie do in the early UFCs?
Royce didn't choke Ken with the GI, that's just an excuse Ken made up. If you watch the pcitures taken from the front camera you can unquestionably see it was a standard, GI-less rear naked choke.
1993 Ken Shamrock was scary. He did have to give up his wrestling shoes with 24 hours notice of the UFC1 fight. Just saying that was a factor back then which affected his footing and have trained wearing them. He had no idea because he that wasn't an issue with his previous fights in Japan prior.
Correction Ramsey. Hackney beat the sumo guy in UFC3 and withdrawn for breaking his hand. When he fought Royce in UFC4 it was from best josan by groin hits and choking him.
Gerard Gordeau was beast in his day. Seriously, that dude was no push over. Yeah, he didn't have a ground game, but his stand up was something to be scared of. He had that Muay Thai Paco mentality lol.

Since we're on UFC 1, I have a question. What would the martial arts world look like if Ken Shamrock had executed that heelhook he went for on Royce Gracie rather better and managed to get the victory? Would bjj be as big of a thing, or would we see catch/shooto schools in every town? Would MMA be as big (was one of the reasons for its success the narrative that a skillful smaller fighter could beat the big guys, and would the Gracies have continued to push forward with it)? Would the 'wrestler with submissions who could strike a bit' model in fact have advanced the progression of MMA towards its current position somewhat earlier? I suppose what I'm asking is about the impact of UFC 1 happening, vs the impact of Royce Gracie winning it. Would we live in a very different world if Ken Shamrock, who looked like the kind of guy you would expect to win it, had done so (assuming he beat Gordeau, which doesn't seem unreasonable).
@@aluisiofsjr completely true, but I'm sure you can see from the footage that the defense was made somewhat easier by a technical error on Ken Shamrock's part in the heat of the moment. I'm asking about a hypothetical alternate universe in which Shamrock had executed that heelhook with Gordon Ryan levels of ability, or even just gotten lucky with it, and won. I'm really just asking what would have happened if Shamrock won by any means, rather than the likelihood of that happening, but the heelhook seemed like a good moment to single out as a potential point that could have plausibly gone differently for the purposes of a counterfactual.
He should have won that fight. No weapons were allowed, so they told Shamrock not to use his shoes, then Royce uses his Gi to choke him. UFC1 was setup to favour the Gracies so they could make money and gain fame. It has no credibility.

@@RamseyDewey it’s all true dude. This isn’t a conspiracy they literally admitted to it out in the open. I’ll post a video that breaks it down. The Gi being legal is actually the point I’m making. Rules existed to help promote the Gracie system, not to create a fair fight. One item used as a weapon was allowed, another, disallowed, without informing the fighter that it’s a potential weapon. You must understand how ridiculous that is? Both were items of clothing that the fighter used in their fighting system. Only one was allowed to use it. Have you watched UFC1, end to end? It’s quite obvious it wasn’t about setting a fair tournament but instead to promote the Gracie system for fame and fortune.

I’m quite sure they didn’t want college to Olympic level wrestlers to have to worry about. Besides they bent the rules to favour Royce against Ken so 🤷♂️. It’s obvious why, after UFC1 as time went on wrestlers really starts to dominate. Gracie’s disappeared real quick. To be clear, from a BJJ standpoint I respect the Gracie’s, from an MMA standpoint, they were mediocre. I respect they got into a ring and fought hard and took serious punishment. From an integrity standpoint, I don’t respect them much.
That kimo fight put Royce into semi-retirement, kimo was tougher than the guy that put you into retirement, idt it's work out well for you at your age and condition.
False. Kimo was bigger than Wang Guan, not tougher. Wang Guan was a Chinese national sanda champion, national kickboxing champion, and a UFC veteran, at the time I fought him he was 14-0 in professional MMA with 14 wins by knock out. Kimo was a big dude fighting a guy with crappy wrestling skills trying to pull guard on him.
So I have a similar question. If you took Mike Tyson, like Olympics era, early in his career before he had that loss and everything went downhill. And you had him replace any fighter in UFC 1 (Other than Gracie), and gave him 6 months to train (with any training available at that time, ergo no MMA stuff, just whatever he would pick), how would he do? Who could he replace to have the highest level of effectiveness, how would he train? I think that is a pretty interesting hypothetical for me, because when people talk about Tyson in the context of "What if he was in MMA" it's always about him as a striker, but I think with his physical build, he would probably be pretty dangerous in any area he tried to master, and I think given his work ethic it's unlikely that he wouldn't work on grappling and kicks and that sort of thing.
@@eveningstar7812 yeah, I think it would be interesting especially if he had some period of time to train and could train for it specifically for that, given his work ethic. Just so long as he doesn't get on any flights on the way there. But yeah I think that it'd be very interesting. Cuz a lot of people have like speculated about what Mike Tyson would have been like in MMA probably cuz of his ferocity or whatever but they've all speculated that he be like a really prime striker and I think that given the right training I think you could actually be a pretty dangerous grappler he's got a lot of power and he's got that that bill that at least when I was wrestling guys that were built like that were scary

According to google you have an MMA record of 3-4 with your last fight occurring in 2011. Do you think you could beat your 2011 self or when you were in your physical prime? @@RamseyDewey Both good to know. That is why I asked as information listed can often be inaccurate. That's simply what Tapology and other MMA sources has your record as. Anyone who thinks they could beat those guys should as themselves - do I train/workout for 6+ hours a day, 4+ days a week? Probably 99% of the people who claim they could beat a professional fighter go to a McDojo 1 hour, 3x a week max.
I think I would have lost and probably get injured if I had to face Ken Shamrock, I'd do ok against the rest of the fighters in UFC 1, I am not certain about winning it but I wouldn't look like a clown.
well here's the thing... if you were to beat Royce you wouldn't face him again, it would be Rickson next time around. I think prime Rickson (as he was at that time) would still be a threat to all but the really elite fighters today. Not saying he'd smash people, but he would be a serious threat.
This was a fun video, Ramsey "Danger" Dewey vs Dan "The Beast" Severn sounds fantastic! This video would also make for a really neat time travel movie. What would motivate Ramsey to do this once he gains the ability to time travel? I would watch it.
I'd say today's Ramsey would be dominant in UFC 1 but that's not saying Ramsey is a monster athlete or a fighting prodigy. I'd say a fighter of today's standards is a ridiculously better suited than UFC1's competitors. Even with the difference in rules. Of course, you'd still need huevos de cemento to fight Shamrock or Royce... or Tank Abbot or Don Frye... on their prime. Not a fun prospect. Still, my money's on the Coach.
It is a very unfair question, because world of martial arts chaged after UFC 1... It is impossible to answer this question, because Ramsey is a product of that event, like all serious (MMA) fighters of today...
it is not bragging if you tell the truth. if you put today's good fighters against people back then, today's good fighters would dominate. I would trust your skills to dominate. also, this is both a personal and professional based suggestion: in a more former/serious setting, it is always beneficial to ask better, more clear questions. if you want answer in specific narrative, remember to ask in such narrative, never make assumption.
People forget that the Gracie family focused their bjj in self defense first and I have no doubt they used striking, etc in their training. Yes they were bjj practitioners first, but only a fool would believe they hadn't practiced other styles and done their homework on removing other styles tools prior to the ufc Obviously they competed often too prior ufc, so effectively had an advantage over many

You’d have been knocked out by Gordeau, or heel-hooked by Shamrock. But, since the first four UFCs were all GJJ infomercials it would never have taken place without a Gracie being in it so whichever Gracie was there would have won.
I was trying to be humble in this video, but dude… 1993 Ken Shamrock had a very rudimentary leg lock game compared to most submission grappling novices today.

People have just gotten to much better, the sport has evolved incredibly quickly.
do some googling and you will find this not to be the case. The "gracie strategy" was to make loads of money, which worked well.
Fascinating! What did Hoyce wrong and how is BJJ and MMA technique different/better today?
Onassis fought in UFC 7 beating a wrestler.

Not just in striking, but in grappling too
Very fun video
Keith Hackney was coming after a fairly easy match against the infamous Joe Son.
Without watching the video my bet:
1. Tkd kick, insta kill
2. Knock down via punching, 20 seconds
3. 3 times suplex, 30 seconds
4. Heelhook does work, win beetween 40 seconds
The 'current ' version of you - would win. Easy peasy.
Hi Coach Ramsey I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU,
CAN I MAINTAIN MY BOXING SKILLS JUST BY TRAINING AT HOME OR SHOULD I FOCUS MORE ON STRENGTH INSTEAD?
I am a college student and I don't have enough time to go to the gym and train. But I do love to train just for the fun of it and making progress. I've trained in Shotokan karate in high school for about 2 years and boxing ever since. I've been boxing for about 1 year now. though I haven't been in a real match ever I did use to spar quite intensely in my gym. The sparring sessions are what I miss the most but I do train from home. I also love training outdoors whenever I get the chance. My workouts usually involve bodyweight movements
, heavy bag work and a lot of cardio up to 45mins per session(what can I say I just feel like running sometimes).
I pretty much agree with what the other guy said you can definitely maintain your skills and depending on some of your mental traits you can even improve I recommend doing film studies study the film of boxers that have a similar style to you / to what you're trying to become or have something you wanna add to your style and study them and add there movements into your shadowboxing and heavy bag work I think with enough devotion you can definitely get better training only at home (especially if you can fin da friend to spar with even just light sparring) but training at an actual boxing gym is superior also if you can record your self shadowboxing or hitting the bag and think if you fought you what would you do to exploit your openings and whatever openings you find fix them
Hey Coach,
I've always had a question that I've wanted to ask you because I think you're one of the few people who might have a real answer for an arguably silly question.

@@oldironsides4107 Important to note that his opponents were old as hell too when he fought them. Van Clief fought a guy over 26 years younger.
Royce didn't choke Ken with the GI, that's just an excuse Ken made up.

Ken Shamrock did not got that heelhook because Royce Gracie did a very basic defense on that.
@@aluisiofsjr completely true, but I'm sure you can see from the footage that the defense was made somewhat easier by a technical error on Ken Shamrock's part in the heat of the moment.

He was matched against people who would be a disadvantage against him, and those he would put him at a disadvantage were matched up against those who would hopefully knock them out.
Bill Wallace told many lies about that. Ken Shamrock did know Wrestling, using the Gi was allowed since it was a No Hold Barred competition, Royce Gracie fought Kimo Leopoldo in his first fight.
@@aluisiofsjr cool. I still haven't gotten around to watching ufc 1 myself, so all I can do is say what I've heard and ask others' opinions.
@@aluisiofsjr Sure it was a set up and also Royce was in every possible steroids.
He was even caught later in his fight Life.
@@jaymthesn5981 , LMAO. Royce Gracie on roids in earliest UFCs? lol
So he take very bad steroids because he was never strong or in great shape...
@@aluisiofsjr Just a quick reminder that Anderson Silva was caught on steroids as well who wasnt very muscular either. There are many ways to enhance a fighters performance. Better endurance, speed, better recovery during training etc.. Muscle mass is only one of them.
I think Mr Wong could be UFC champion
How would you handle Tank Abbot?
Tank Abbot didn’t fight in UFC1.
I think you may have your weights wrong. Royce weighed around 180 pounds during ufc 1. Surely you aren't over 200 pounds ?
I weigh about 215 lbs
Those UFC 1 guys wouldn't stand a chance against my women's self defense skills. Give me a better challenge Mr.Dewey, those guys are lightwork compared to my hurricane kicks.
On the current roster I think a lot of us could get lucky and catch Paddy because his striking defense is so poor. Most regulars at a typical good boxing gym have better striking defense than Paddy.
I dont think you would have beat Dan Severn at UFC 4. At that point his game plan was to get the fight to the ground and just beat his opponents up with elbows, headbutts, punches, etc.
So… an average roll with a typical white belt, huh?
@@RamseyDewey I'd argue my boy Dan is a wrestler of 120 kg and some proficency, but what you said in the video is very true - anything can happen in a fight for either side.
@@RamseyDewey he is a dan severn sized white belt though...
1:10 I mean, you were the one who asked the question...
I'm a big, strong guy and I've got a few years of training under my belt. I'd get folded by any of the male fighters but he smaller female fighters....yeah, it might be a rough night for them before I get tired and need a nap because I am wayyyy out of shape.
I thought Ramsey Dewey beat Chuck Liddell in Pride FC?
Dewey was destroyed by fighters who only won a fight against him.
He only beat one guy who ever won a fight.
Alll theae early ufc guys were tough. Something Dewey never showed in any fight
@@oldironsides4107 how do you know? there are videos of Ramsey fighting?
Yo. Shitstorm called, it's for you Ramsey........
Course you can. They have a flyweight division now. You have seventy-five pounds on them, even if you can't fight.
Figuereido would whoop your ass. So does Kaira France. Also they're 125lbs for like a minute for the weight ins.
Royce Gracie would be beatable but you would have lost to some of the other guys.
He had the rules and matchups in his favour, and he also was allowed to cheat by using his Gi when Shamrock wasn’t allowed to use his shoes.
It’s only reason he won against Shamrock.
Using a gi was not against the rules. (And wearing a gi in an MMA fight is more of a liability than anything else) How is that cheating?
Which of the other guys do you think I would have lost to, and why?
@@RamseyDewey because it was used as a weapon against him while Shamrock was told his gear (shoes) cant be used as shoes are a weapon and weapons are illegal.
UFC1 was setup to favor the Gracie's, its well documented.
They excluded wrestlers, Art Davie wrote about it and the original ad specifically said so as well.
@@matsutendai Ken Shamrock was a wrestler. Using the gi was legal. Stop making stuff up.
It’s quite obvious it wasn’t about setting a fair tournament but instead to promote the Gracie system for fame and fortune.
ua-cam.com/video/mOxvfoS498w/v-deo.htmlsi=9600gMaow-8t12Fy&t=1406.
Shamrock had high school wrestling but the guy was a pro wrestler that did pancration.
"Stop fantasizing about beating women" - Ramsey Dewey
Not so funny thing is, UFC thinks its alright
Mr Dewey is there a martial arts called Wong-fu
I think he’d beat Royce but might struggle against Ken Shamrock.
@@eveningstar7812 and so you think his best ofds would be if he replaced Ken shamrock then
@@davidpeters6743 Yes because other than Royce, Ken was the only true mixed martial artist and was a bit bigger than Royce, just lacked the grappling, but was still a good wrestler.
@@eveningstar7812 Seems right to me. I do think that Royce having done a lot of sparring with people from other traditions gave him a really enormous advantage.
0:40 Yeah and it's like, if one of us got a lucky punch in ANYBODY can be knocked out; aside from a puncher's chance, it's not likely. Not even against the female fighters, until the size difference is too big. People know that they couldn't beat an Olympic boxer in a boxing match, do they really think they could beat an olympic-level fighter at fighting??
According to google you have an MMA record of 3-4 with your last fight occurring in 2011. Do you think you could beat your 2011 self or when you were in your physical prime? You assess yourself and think it's plausible that you could win those early UFC tournaments so I'm wondering what you think of yourself now versus when you actually fought.
I was not in my physical prime back then. I would dance circles around that guy now. Are you kidding me?
Also, that fight record is not accurate.
@@RamseyDewey Both good to know. That is why I asked as information listed can often be inaccurate. That's simply what Tapology and other MMA sources has your record as. Of course when I'm talking prime I'm discussing your physical youth. If you're in better shape now than in your 20s or 30s fair enough.
Anyone who thinks they could beat those guys should as themselves - do I train/workout for 6+ hours a day, 4+ days a week?
Probably 99% of the people who claim they could beat a professional fighter go to a McDojo 1 hour, 3x a week max.
Yeah this dude is delusional
Could you beat Mike Tyson in mma? 1986 version of Mike before he lost all his speed.
I'm a heavyweight, even if I had anything for them on the feet (which I doubt) I would be a fish out of water once taken down.
With royce as long as you stay on the feet you can have an easy fight.
I'd beat you...
...
In a hamburger eating contest.
Bring it!
Hahahaha
I think I would have lost and probably get injured if I had to face Ken Shamrock, I'd do ok against the rest of the fighters in UFC 1, I am not certain about winning it but I wouldn't look like a clown.
well here's the thing... if you were to beat Royce you wouldn't face him again, it would be Rickson next time around. I think prime Rickson (as he was at that time) would still be a threat to all but the really elite fighters today. Not saying he'd smash people, but he would be a serious threat.
Read the title of the video.
@@RamseyDewey my bad
This was a fun video, Ramsey "Danger" Dewey vs Dan "The Beast" Severn sounds fantastic! This video would also make for a really neat time travel movie. What would motivate Ramsey to do this once he gains the ability to time travel? I would watch it.
The question is could you have beaten Royce in your prime?
I'd say today's Ramsey would be dominant in UFC 1 but that's not saying Ramsey is a monster athlete or a fighting prodigy. I'd say a fighter of today's standards is a ridiculously better suited than UFC1's competitors. Even with the difference in rules.
Of course, you'd still need huevos de cemento to fight Shamrock or Royce... or Tank Abbot or Don Frye... on their prime. Not a fun prospect.
Still, my money's on the Coach.
I could maybe win UFC1, but there is Mr. Gracey. However, i might be able to beat him.
Thought you took Gracie out lol
14yr old Ramsey in 1993? Or Ramsey in prime? Because any MMA fighter from 2005 onwards would've won UFC1. Things evolve.
And then you woke up
It is a very unfair question, because world of martial arts chaged after UFC 1... It is impossible to answer this question, because Ramsey is a product of that event, like all serious (MMA) fighters of today...
It would create a space time paradox that would tear the universe apart!
it is not bragging if you tell the truth.
if you put today's good fighters against people back then, today's good fighters would dominate.
Yes they were bjj practitioners first, but only a fool would believe they hadn't practiced other styles and done their homework on removing other styles tools prior to the ufc
Obviously they competed often too prior ufc, so effectively had an advantage over many
there is no such thing as Brazilian jiu-jitsu there is only Pankration
@@HarryTzianakisTheGodOfSpeed easy does it mate, you've made the same claim on multiple comments here and I'm pretty sure it's a hard one to back. I doubt the ancient Greeks discovered all the techniques and applications and tactics used throughout the history of (mixed or not) martial arts. Pankration was just one tradition that had both grappling and striking.
@@raresmocanu1743 What i speak of is 100% truth. They renamed it
"Stop fanaticizing about beating women" hey, you asked, they answered.
I don't weight enough to win UFC 1
I am 135-166lbs even as a purple belt in bjj a judo and mauy Thai background. Even with my skill I would be over powered and knocked out
Those were some big boys in the early UFC events.
I say this while subbing all my opponents so far
No way I would leave in a stretcher
You’d have been knocked out by Gordeau, or heel-hooked by Shamrock. But, since the first four UFCs were all GJJ infomercials it would never have taken place without a Gracie being in it so whichever Gracie was there would have won.
I was trying to be humble in this video, but dude… 1993 Ken Shamrock had a very rudimentary leg lock game compared to most submission grappling novices today.
@@RamseyDewey Then he’d probably just stretch you out and g and p you. Six one, half a dozen the other.
