@ Oh dude. Can you imagine the collaborations? Would the boys from the Dead have become such good friends with the boys from Phish if Jerry had lived even ten more years? That’s only 2005, which is crazy. I think they would have been friendly for sure. This also makes me wonder how Phish’s music would have evolved if not for that massive influx in the fall of 95.
Phil's favorite album was WorkingMan's Dead. He liked it because of content and production. He drank at Nave's Saloon in Fairfax California. He drank Scotch and drove a Lotus. He owned a Porsche. He didn't take it personally that I didn't like the Grateful Dead. He could actually stand outside of it and appreciate somebody else's opinion. God speed.
As a cover band bassist myself I was always amazed at his sense of knowing when not to play. His talent for dancing around the rhythm instead of with it was just astounding. We have lost another true master of the craft
Fly on, fly free sweet pilgrim. The millions you touched and sent spiraling off into new galaxies of thought and inspired action. And for those who will discover the Dead, who have their lives to drink from that deep well, thank you for your passionate artistry!
Absolutely loved these conversations about the music. What they were doing with odd time signatures. Going from 7s to 10s to 1 all in one jam. That was the essence of the Grateful Dead. Phil was a genius so well studied in Classical music. Before he met Garcia he was writing orchestral music by ear. He had perfect pitch. He was writing parts for every instrument. Right up till the end his playing was so solid never missing a note and holding perfect tempo and groove. He really was the modern day Bach who played bass. His bass playing was a concert by itself. Thank you Phil for everything you gave to us. It's our turn to continue the journey. "Such a long time to be gone, and a short time to be there."
Phil pioneered innovative live sound acoustics for bass guitar like no one before him. I remember being at shows in The Phil Zone on the floor in the 80's & 90's, where some of his notes and broadcast frequencies seemed to flitter around at the boundary between audible and inaudible perception. Sounds dancing in and out between hearing a note and just feeling vibration in the body. Phil and his live sound engineers and technicians created a custom sound system to expand and control this magical threshold between hearing and feeling sound. Phil's mastery of the 6 string bass gave him a large pallet of notes to work with in this unique live sound experience. The only way to fully and truly experience Phil Lesh's musical genius was in a large venue live concert setting. Recent tours of Dead and Company, however wonderful and truly enjoyable, lacked Phil's utterly unique and intrinsic presence in The Grateful Dead soundscape. Thank you Phil "for a real good time"! ☮️✌️
Thank you, Phil, you gentle thoughtful brother. So sincerely interested in the art and love of music. You made the dead deeper and more interesting. So grateful for all these years with your music💓
If all Phil ever did was create the bass part for Touch of Grey it would have been enough. Clearly the most musical, innovative bassist in all of Rock. Thanks for all the love which you communicated through your music.
Thank you Phil for all the decades of fantastic music you created with the Grateful Dead and your own bands you are deeply missed and loved always ❤❤❤❤
Phil hanging out with his Leonberger dogs. He's raised Leonbergers for about thirty years. I used to raise Leonbergers and that's how I found out about Phil's love of the breed. He also used to have a black lab named Stella Blue. I will miss Phil every day just like I've missed Jerry every day. I'm old but still on the bus.
Phil, you provided me the highest state of musical enjoyment when you and your colleagues busted out Box of Rain; Hampton 3/20/86. Made me realize as long as you keep going to shows you'll eventually realize a musical mother lode.
Thank you Phil for everything. The music, your generosity with me and my friends with backstage passes, the great times before and after the shows. May the four winds take you to the promised land. God bless my friend. RIP.
Before I heard the news last night, all day on Friday I'd been hearing that thundering opening of the "The Other One". Lay down , dear brother, lay down and take your rest, Phil 🙏
I’ve always felt like Phil was a distant soul brother to me. I’m sure I’m not alone. His unrelentless love and devotion to his fans left a huge wave of unmatched legacy.
Phil you gave us so much. I could be going down the road. Listening to Dead music. That's like having a great passenger with you. Gave life even more meaning! Thank You! We did get that Band together. With your feedback you gave us. Journey on! Don't forget the bass!
The Cow Palace show, I believe it was the Beta test of their new system. I was going to school at Menlo College. Cow Palace - March 23, 1974. Exactly one year later Jerry Garcia and Friends (The Dead) played at the SNACK SUNDAY benefit at Kezar. Man......those were the days. "Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear through to another day.......maybe it's been seen before through other eyes on other days while going home."
Thank you Phil, you brought a lot of love to this world, and for that alone, we love you!!! I can't wait to see and hear all of you guys again, what a party that will be!!! 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤☮🐸
Rest in Peace sweet soul . The Earth got a little colder but now there is a new color in the sky . " It's all a dream we dreamed , one afternoon long ago " .
A peak musical experience for me was The Grateful Dead and Phil Lesh's bass solo on "Eyes Of The World" Rochester 1977. During the solo I was nervously looking at the ceiling because it seemed the subsonic frequencies would bring the roof down. You can hear my voice on various recordings of that show, requesting "Jack Straw" and yelling "Yeah!" during Phil's solo. Also, during Phil's solo someone used my shoulder to steady an 8mm movie camera to capture Phil's brilliance, so that might be out there. I highly recommend listening to this show with a great sound system or exceptional headphones to pick up the low frequency of Phil. Phil was my musical hero.😢
i was standing next to him while his son's band was playing in Angel's Camp, his smile was from coast to coast--Paul and Ox and Phil are my 3 favorites
Man these guys are so lucky to be hanging with Phil and his son, gosh i could just listen to him all day all the time. Wow what an honor. I would be so excited to be there, they would probably tell me to “relax man relax”. Thank you Phil for all the music, one of my favorites is 2-14-86 HJK Conv. Cntr. “Keep on Growing” with Brent. There’s a video on UA-cam 🤙 Did Phil get sick all of a sudden? He looks and sounds good here. Was he on hospice? What happened? Anyone?
Words cannot convey the importance of the impact that he and the band had (and still have) on the advancement of enlightenment and spiritual growth of humanity, in not only this world but all space and time.
Good bye, Phil. Thanks for the decades of fun and cheer.
More like half century 🎊
R.I.P. Phil Lesh. A rock music legend. You will not be forgotten.
Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there. R.I.P. Phil and God Bless You. 🙏
Words cannot convey just how wonderful Phil's playing was, fare thee well brother.
I’ve been listening to Phil / the Grateful Dead since I was in high school in the 60s. So long old friend. ♥️✌🏻
One of the greatest musicians of all time. May the four winds blow you safely home.
Thanks for it all Phil
84 years is a pretty good run
Thanks for the mesmerizing . . .
Phill Zone forever 🗿🧙🏻♂️
Almost infinitely better than Jerry's 53. It matters not now. Hopefully they are sharing the same relative space.
@@illuminotmereloaded6896 Almost 30 more years … at times I wonder how their music would have changed if Jerry had lived longer?

I picture him crossing over with that smart ass smile on his face that he got when he was in the zone on stage. Love you, Phil 💙

"You're rest shall be glorious"...thank you Phil

Why I was more of a fan of Furthur, Phil was in great form during that run. Subterranean bass notes indeed!
@bostonaudi Yes! Subterranean is the perfect description! ☮️✌️
Keep in touch Phil. Let us know how things are over there. Best band ever dude.
I saw that with Dalí … maybe with AI, anything is possible?
Thanks Phil. What a long strange trip it’s been!

Thank you, Phil, you gentle thoughtful brother. So sincerely interested in the art and love of music. You made the dead deeper and more interesting. So grateful for all these years with your music💓
No one has ever played bass guitar quite like Phil, especially during the wall of sound. It cannot be reproduced unless you’re inside his brain.
This ^
Phil dropped nukes on bass. RIP Phil 😢

RIP Phil! Thank you for everything! We’ll remain forever Grateful!
My favorite musician ever. I have literally had dreams of meeting him, and picking his brain about his approach to bass parts.
Thank you Phil for all the decades of fantastic music you created with the Grateful Dead and your own bands you are deeply missed and loved always ❤❤❤❤

It's such a perfect coda to his life that Phil spent his last days celebrating the music w the new generation. Lesh is love.

Thank You Phil. You know our love will not fade away❤
I got on the bus, in 93, in Yellowstone Park, they had a big Dead Head representation, I'm still planning to get back out there 😊
A sad but inevitable day. What a great musician who carried the spirit of the Dead experience throughout his life. Love you Phil!
Listening for the secret, searching for the sound....
Phil, you told me all those secrets and taught me all those sounds.
Thanks man.

Thank you Phil. You're a human gem.
Loved ol' Phil. Saw him at Fare Thee Well and several times in San Rafael, he played so beautifully and was a gracious host. Look out any Window.
