    Conservative family who relocated from California to Idaho to escape liberal politics reveal why they've now moved back - www.dailymail....
    "A conservative family who moved from California to Idaho have returned due to difficulties 'fitting in.'
    Melvin Galang and Coree Ray made the return trip to the blue state in April, taking to TikTok to announce the U-turn. Both cited 'judgmental attitudes' and gossip as reasons for fleeing.
    They first moved to Idaho in 2021, leaving the LA suburb they called home and taking along their two twin daughters for the ride, as well as Coree's four kids from other relationships."

    Reminds me of Obama's reelection when a bunch of conservatives got onto Twitter and said if he got reelected they'd move to Australia. Multiple Aussies reminded them that we have universal healthcare, restrictive gun laws, nationally legalised gay marriage, and abortion is considered a private matter between a woman and her physician. Turns out they wouldn't have liked it here. 😂

      In Florida in 20q2, I had students complain about Obama winning who were "joking" about moving to Canada. I informed them that Canada was more socially liberal than the US, and if they wanted someplace more conservative to try Russia. They weren't impressed.

      Not only that, it was policy that Australia required either a job or $1M in the bank to immigrate in. Not sure what the current policy is, but the intent was to keep people from moving in and going on the dole - like in U.S. red states.

    • @Iggsy81

      not sure where you got the legalised gay marriage thing from, like most things Aus was wayyyyy behind USA on that one, same as drug laws and the like, we are always 10-15 years behind USA on most social policies. So yeah gay marriage only became legal in 2017 and abortion only became legal where i live QLD in 2018, both well after Obama's time.

    • @dutchroll
      @dutchroll 3 місяці тому

      @@Iggsy81 my statement wasn’t a timeline comparison nor do I see how you could interpret it that way. It was pointing out the obvious fact that if Trump fans “fleeing” from a Democratic US President think they’d find their haven in Australia with their well publicised wishlist of highly restrictive abortion policies, lax gun laws, anti gay policies, and healthcare which isn’t “communist” (their generic description of universal healthcare), they’d be in for a shock.

    • @dutchroll
      @dutchroll 3 місяці тому +3

      @@Iggsy81 my comment wasn’t a timeline competition. Just pointing out that if you’re a deep MAGA conservative trying to “flee” your perception of an excessively liberal society or government, Australia (and almost any other modern western nation) is probably not the place you want to flee to.

    I live in CA. Have seen a bunch of conservatives complain about CA and move out of state, only to return in a year or two. One guy had an EV. Super common in CA. In the state he moved to, he got a LOT of flack for driving an EV, including political related insults. He moved back to CA. He said the people in the other state were not accepting of outsiders. The same complaint this guy had made, essentially saying the liberals in CA are too accepting of others. @WA_S_S_AW 3 місяці тому +2

      No, you are absolutely correct. But to really understand why being anti-democratic and un-Constitutional is so dangerous to this nation, consider this.
      There is no economy in the United States without democracy, because there is no dollar without democracy and here’s why- On the day that the United States is no longer a democracy, that is also the same day that all of the U.S. treasury bonds go to zero, because they must. The democratic government that issued, sold and guaranteed those bonds would no longer exist. Does anyone really believe that Trump would guarantee those bonds? The whole world knows this and that’s why every inch we get closer to not being a democracy inflation will get worse and worse. No one wants to be caught holding our treasury bonds when the United States ceases to be a democracy, and the central banks that bought all of the U.S. debt that was dumped during the 30 months after 1/6, do not count as currency held by foreign nations, because central banks are not nations. The dollar is a fiat currency and being such it requires three fundamental conditions be met for the dollar to even be a viable currency on the world stage. The dollar must be sought after by other nations, it must be held as a store of value by other nations and it must be used by other nations. Currently none of those conditions are being met and when those conditions are not met the dollar loses value and we see that as inflation.

    Idaho born and I love my state. We fought years to rid ourselves of the Nazi Aryan nation and the national bad rep they caused. We were doing pretty good until the rise of the ultra right Christian extremists who want to put the country back a couple hundred years and figure moving here means they can take over to create their own litt!e American Taliban sub nation.. Currently we are experiencing yet another population boom of immigrants from other states. Just like the 70's and 90's people move here and expect the same lifestyle and public services they had available where they came from. Which has always made me wonder why they moved to begin with if they weren't looking to change.

One thing many people get wrong though about leaving California is the thought that they can make the same amount of money in their new state. Not unless you are retiring. It’ll probably pay 1/3 the amount you made and the job pool won’t be even close to what you had. For those who say you can now work remotely, companies are now adjusting pay based on location.

It always has to happen to them personally, or someone very close to them, before they can understand. Whether that means someone they love being killed in a mass shooting, or being treated like outsiders for the first time, it all comes down to a lack of empathy. They can't look at another person's situation and say 'How would that affect me, were I in their shoes?' It has to happen to them. A microcosm of what always eventually happens in fascist regimes. Once the initial "undesirables" of the out-group have been "dealt with" and pacified/excluded/eliminated leaving just the in-group, their vitriol and hateful rhetoric inevitably turns inwards. It's like a law of the universe or something. And it's because every "conservative" lacks one basic trait: empathy.

      @AK-cr5pe you're right. Their sense of community is built on expelling "outsiders", so when there's nothing left to expel, they start expelling each other

      I mean they moved their two daughters to a state that treats women like complete trash. Do you honestly think they care about their children and their well-being all that much?

    Racism was clearly a factor. They just didn’t want to admit it. Diverse states are more kind in my opinion.

      People who live in diverse cities tend to mind their own business. They have more important things to worry about than gossiping about other people.

    Hopefully they realize how wrong they’ve been this whole time

      You've put your finger right on why I cannot be a Republican. The GOP is where the KKK, Nazis, and other types of white supremacists hang their hat. Only a fraction of the GOP base is virulently racist, in all fairness. But the white supremacists believe the GOP is their party. These are folks who would throw my wife and children into the ovens for being untermenschen. They'd torture me to death for being a blood traitor. The folks who claim to love the military would cry that my service doesn't count for anything because my choice to marry outside the white race proves I hate my country. There is nothing that the lunatics of the Left believe that is anything like the worst of the Right.

    In my experience, conservatives have a significantly lower capacity for empathy than liberals. That is a big part of what makes them conservative. Now, conservatives will generally deny this and claim that they are empathetic towards others all the time. The problem is that their empathy really only extends to people like them, so it's not really empathy at all. We see this all the time, where conservatives suddenly care about an issue when it affects them, when they may have been vocally on the other side prior to that. It's why they do things like give a pass to a Wall St banker with a cocaine habit while wanting the poor black kid with a crack habit locked up for life.
    In this particular case, the conservatives that these people met likely thought of themselves as all the good things that these people felt they weren't. The problem was likely that they were all those things to people like them but this family were not like them, despite obviously having some similar political views, and so they didn't get that treatment. They got the outsider treatment instead.

      Right. Like if their neighbor's house burn's down and there was no ins. they all will pitch in and donate but get mad about a kid taking his summertime free lunch home to his mom. All homeless people could just get off their lazy asses and work if they want to survive. Women should make sure to keep their leg's closed because we ain't giving no free handouts in Idaho. Drunk driver's are shown empathy here because "None of us were so innocent when we were young either". Male's here are giving weak sentences for D.V. because they "Have to make a living". Instead of feeding and housing their pets they get tattoos and dump the dog along a dirt road. The list goes on and on.

    Some of my family moved from California to Idaho. Thankfully, the housing prices shot up before my father could follow. I don't think he'd like the reality of the cold/snow, being unable to walk to his favorite Thai or Mexican restaurants, the healthcare deserts, and my refusal to visit until after I go through menopause (I have multiple high-risk factors for ectopic pregnancy and terrible luck when it comes to health issues; it would be just like my drama-queen body to have that kind of emergency in a place which has destroyed gynecological healthcare).

    It's the Mormons. I lived in Idaho for two years because I graduated from college in 2008 and there were no jobs in my state. Idaho has a perpetual pink collar worker shortage, so it is easy to find a teacher job there. The state was pretty if you like mountains and don't like deciduous trees, but the Mormons were kryptonite to my Midwest girl heart. They couldn't even fake being nice well. I started to do little things to purposely irritate them, since fitting in seemed impossible, like chaperoning school dances in sleeveless dresses.
