Really fast and loose demo of how I approach balances, levels, etc. Part 1 of I don't know how many...but I'll keep them short. I know some are more advanced than this, but hey, start with some tiny steps...although very important. thanks!!
👍 I liked the -6 the best. Thank you for all the 💎 you’ve been sharing, by the way! And your stories from back in the days are the icing on the cake! 😁
I'm going to watch this tutorial over and over again. Thanks Tony. My mixing has been a weak point that I've needed to work on. This is invaluable. I'll try to just apply the same principles to the DAW I use.
Any chance you could do a 90s style rap with all instruments being mixed individually including vocals. Would be awesome to see your workflow and approach on getting that gritty 90s rap style in today's modern DAWs and plugins 👍
I found it really interesting that because the vocals sat so well within the mix that changing its volume in the mix was more a matter of personal taste rather than mixing from a more decisive/engineer-like perspective. Thanks!
I wonder if their want for the vocal to be excessively loud translates to something else that would satisfy that, maybe a thining out or the drums or scooping something that makes the vocals feel excessively loud yet keeping the relative levels more together. Just wondering as ive found over the years mix clients can seem stuck on what seems like a counter productive idea when really they mean something that they cant articulate. Great video and example/demonstration, loving the content!
Unique voice. But I feel like its missing some "feel".. Perhaps that's why they want the vox loud? Track does feel like its missing something. The vox does sound well recorded too.
Hey Tony quick question. When using analog gear EQs and Compressors for hip hop, which do you use first for chaining? Are you an eq before compressor guy and vice versa?
I went and checked it...yes, the indicators light up...I only worry about it when I hear clipping. I'll do a video about the drums soon...keep in mind those drums are very dirty to begin with. thanks.

Thanks this is awesome 🫡💯🎶
Thanks Tony. This is what I hoped Pensado’s place would evolve into.
Agreed!
that's interesting...I guess it's more of an entertainment channel? I popped in on a few...seems to have some shilling also.

The lower level make it sounds more like a real band performance

Amen
Nothing to add other than thanks for posting.
I’m watching on a TV with halfway decent speakers and that first-4db drop made the drums pop.
Really great sounding track. Thanks for sharing.

yes. When the overall mix is in a good place, there are multiple subtle options.

Tony, fascinating BUT...we missed you at the Inn tonight. Let's get together soon.
This is not a Hip hop song though ! 😂 love your work Tony B
hard af!!!
I was about to say, the vocal sounded a bit high to me before you even said it. Gotta give the client what they asking for tho.

I tend to compress first, limit last...but I change it up sometimes
seems this doesn't need fixing before mixing.
always a good thing
Goofy question but do you prefer the tools and equipment of today rather than what you were using in the 90s?
A little of both
Great video as always!. The kick seems to be clipping always, , do you usually set it so high ?
