- Footage of Rehearsals, The Opening Night, and the Party after Opening night of the Original Broadway Production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Sorry for the watermark. Enjoy!!
I went to a Catholic high school and one of the priests who taught there took a bunch of us to NYC to see it. It was wonderful.
This is great footage. i wish there was a pro-shot of the original cast
WOW! Thanks so much for sharing, Ethan J! The best part is the toward the end where the entire company sings Hosana. Goosebumps.
RIP JEFF FENHOLT🎶✨️💞🙌 who really did turn his life to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
He was from Columbus wasnt he?
Yes
This is amazing thanks for sharing!!
Man, Ben Vereen was young back then!
This is great! Thanks for sharing.
Wow that was absolutely amazing and cool!!
This video has gotten my hopes up for a complete cast recording of this cast
I asked Barry Dennen about this back in the 90s and he said it was recorded "at the wrong speed" and in one afternoon
Half our dead or sick….Carl Anderson. Judas died of cancer in 2001-2002
@@shreddabgofficial He died in 2004 from Leukemia
I heard there is a rumored bootleg flying around of a sound board recording
@@DylansTheatreCorner Hope so!
Having only seen still photos from the original Broadway production I have come to the conclusion that either it was the biggest clusterf**k ever or completely mind blowing.
Love this!
Woah, thank you!!!
This is wild!!
I think it’s so ironic how the Mark Hellinger theatre where JCST played over 700 performances ended up being bought by David Wilkerson, awesome pastor and author of many books, most famously The Cross and the Switchblade Alondra 2 decades after the opening of JCSS!
Times Square Church has Bernard a long time, and has helped hundreds of people addicted to substances
God is AWESOME!!
Jeff Fenholt, became a evangelist for the REAL JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR!!!! Rip❤️
Love watching the dancing at that party! I'd bet that quite a few of those folks were coked up.
Jeff Fenholt for the win!
Jesus Christmas! Ben Vereen sounds like a parody of someone doing Judas. Carl Anderson was so much better, and originated it on the tour, and of course Murray Head, the concept album but i believe never did it onstage.
Please, bring this new poduction to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca!
Where did you get it? Is there a way to get it without the watermark?
Something that I never understood is, if it was so criticized and polemical on Broadway upon it's first release, then why was it's London release so different, so more respectful?
Different directors, different renditions. Compared to Tom O'Horgan's batshit crazy (but still memorable) production, Jim Sharman's rendition was much more stark and closer to Webber and Rice's original idea
Wish I saw it on Broadway
The UK is much less religiously fanatical than the US. Although on the other hand there was some similar sentiment to this in the UK when the Life of Brian was release 10 years later, though protesters were in the minority.
Still successful
,,,✨... THEY COULD HAVE BEEN WATCHING 'THE TWO RONNIES' @ 2:35 .. BUT NEVERTHELESS THE SHOW GOT FREE PUBLICITY...AS LONG AS ALL SIDES ENJOYED THEMSELVES & CLEANED THEIR KNIVES & HAMMERS THOROUGHLY.✨,,, 🎶✨✅✅✅✨🎶
5:18 Is Andrew Loyd-Webber?
Yes that's ALW and his wife at the time
Sir lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim rice music writers
Who's the conductor here please? I don't think it's Previn. They could have a better in tune piano...
Andre Previn only did the score for the soundtrack, the one who is on the piano is Gordon Harrell and the conductor is Marc Pressel
@@ethanj8131 I was at a special screening of the film in New York around 2011, both Andre Previn and Norman Jewison were there to speak. Previn said he took the job very reluctantly as he didn't care for the piece.
@@kennethwayne6857 The music benefitted from his conducting and arrangements IMO. 😊
@@beaed9296 Oh, I think so too.
The piano was possibly in tune! Film degrades and ages over time, including the audio you hear in this.
