    Great video. Those pink salmon did they spawn already and just waiting to die or eaten by a bear?

      They return to a hatchery and there isn’t enough places for them to spawn if they don’t make it back into the hatchery capture, so many end up dying without spawning and the bears squeeze out the eggs and lap them up. That bear was just bad at picking them and chose males instead of females. You could tell he was a little disappointed in his selection

    Do they ever swoop up the post-spawn pinks for fertilizer? Ya gotta think some of those wasted fish would be good for something like that

    • @HowtoAlaska
      @HowtoAlaska  2 роки тому

      They would but the legality with bag limits and such might be a grey area

    Love from Turkey. I have a couple of questions guys. Why are all those salmons got together and all those fish at the seaside dead?

    • @HowtoAlaska
      @HowtoAlaska  2 роки тому

      They are returning to spawn, and then they all die afterwards. It’s all part of their life cycle

      So, it is not OK to pick them because soon they are going to die?

    • @HowtoAlaska

      You can pick them up but they smell bad because their bodies are literally rotting while they are still alive… but that is natural for them

      last 2 weeks of August/First week of September are usually the best

      agree. last week is a sure thing. 3rd week...maybe good, could be nothing. Another thing to consider is mid Aug still has a bazillion pinks swimming in front of you. These silvers (and pinks) are chasing lures all day long
      If you're there strictly there to load up on fish, and not to enjoy the tourist things or the silver derby, the days before labour day can be the best. No crowds at all, absolutely no pinks in the way, tons of silvers left. You'll see them swimming up and down the shoreline. By this time, nearly all silvers are completely ignoring the lures, you need to snag them out which is a skill in itself..

      The salmon die after spawning, it’s a normal part of their life cycle.
