- On our way up to Surprise Lake we came upon a GMC truck which was blocking the trail. It was buried off the side of the mountain and leaning against 3 trees. It took us almost 2 hours but we were finally able to free the truck just about the time that the owner returned.

I've seen several vehicles on this road, (if you can call it that), that had no business being there.
This should be used to sow people what not to do
It is generally agreed that there are better ways to do this. Here is the big but, I would rather meet them on the trail instead of a know it all that will not help. They spent two hours of their time helping some one else out. They could have driven around and laughed at the idiot that got themselves stuck. My hats off to them and be nice to the people that help others out on the trail.

Great people with a good heart. I do agree that things could have been done differently. But everyone is a critic. Would be proud to go 4X4ing with you any time.
Wow, someone was very lucky standing next to that cable at 3:13. That's why you don't stand in places like that while winching... Someone seriously doesn't like their legs much. Also, Smittybilt = Chinabilt so that's not a surprise at all. Oh my god...this is the "what not to do while winching video" if I ever saw one....I was afraid for the old guy in the red shirt the entire time!
That's why I don't use a steel cable. A steel cable will store energy and stretch. A synthetic rope doesn't and when something happens under load the rope will simply fall to the ground as it did in this video...
There are always other ways to do something. The video doesn't show it well but it's a steep trail. We were not only pulling backwards but also uphill.
It would have been pretty simply if I could get around him but it was not possible.
My old truck can go anywhere. Spit ping.
It's a miricle the jeep battery didn't die. Should have had it running.
