No 99% of these plant fire all over the USA are on purpose
I work out at this facility and it really is a very saftey orientated plant. Its shocking yes but we're talking about 1000s of gallons of gasoline precursors. All it takes is a little leak and an ignotion source. Its really basic science and not that hard to grasp that these things happen. Especially during a turnaround.
Yip...my entire family worked and grew up there since the 50's working in those plants. Without them, we'd all be in the stone age still.
I worked as an operator at the ARCO refinery on Sheldon road in the seventies and we had shutdowns in parts of the refinery for maintenance. The safety was taken so seriously that we could only have a certain flashlight in the plant.
Safety levels oriented?any fail safes over safeguards--no.any precautions over fail safes-no.any ⚠ caution ⚠ over precaution.any emergency measures-yes but not properly equipped with not enough numbers and equipment.hopefully-crisis level measures are equipped.diisturbing.

That plant is massive. The plant is not "fully engulfed".
I remember the explosion at this exact same plant back in 1997, at the unit just to the right of where this fire is burning. The shock wave damaged the building I worked at on Georgia Ave, blowing out the roll up doors, knocking all the ceiling tiles down, cracking sheetrock.

Another explosion at a local refinery, we already live in an EPA sacrifice zone where we are more likely than not to get cancer and die in what would be our natural lifetime. God help us.

That's a small fire know the area well worked some of the plants. It does make good news to keep people afraid. Very little gas is made in Houston. @@MainmanbeeI live in Pasadena about 15 miles from Deer Park. I could see the black smoke burning up. In 2019 when the tanks caught fire but didn’t explode, there was benzene and cancerous stuff in the air.
