Got the 'g' straight away. Took a while of thinking to get the 'ripe' because I just got stuck with 'Hot to go' song stuck in my head for 'Ready to eat' 😅
Took me some time and some help to figure this one. I figured the "g" part immediately, I figured that "beef" was the definition, and that it was a dispute, but it took me time to think of "ripe", and when I did, I didn't know "gripe" was a word so... I learned a new word today thanks to minute cryptic 😅
Got close to getting it, but I got stuck on "ready to eat" I thought of it the wrong way around, and couldn't think of any synonyms other than "hungry". Congrats on 100 of these!
This demonstrates also how the meaning of the overall sentence is generally not important, the answer is the sum of parts. Finding the parts is half the challenge! 😅 I enjoy seeing the ingenuity in these cryptics.
I was thinking on the lines of fight only, but the word gripe is something I've rarely heard so it doesn't come to mind. Got the belly clue but I thought ready to eat was another wordplay, like we had to do something with it... Finally looked up the synonyms of beef and got the answer
I spotted the definition and trawled through my mental list of synonyms for it - I spotted what I thought was the answer, got the “ready to eat” bit so felt confident, but took a minute to see how the first letter was obtained
Spent 5-10 minutes thinking of synonyms for a PERSON that’s ready to eat (seated? hungry?). Once I considered that it could be referring to food, I got it instantly.
thought “ready” and “to eat” could have been indicators in some way at first. but “ready to eat” is such good word play haha. another fun one - 2 under par!!!
I thought of tripe for belly, getting a bit stuck on the beef aspect, but once I realized the other meaning for beef got gripe, little roundabout way lol
Lucked out on this one (to get to par). I was trying to figure out what "belly" referred to - mostly thinking of n as the belly. Turns out I attached myself to the wrong letter and missed out on the wordplay.
I tried 'ga' as middle of vegan's, but could only think of 'ripe' as ready to eat, so I went with one letter instead. Since English isn't my native language, I didn't know the word 'gripe' but learned a new word through the wordplay.
would never have thought of gripe as a substitute for beef even tho i knew it could be the “don’t get along/something against them” definition and not the cow definition. knew to take the g from vegan but couldn’t get ripe from ready to eat cause i went the instant / to put another word for ready with the g
I’d love to know how these are rated; only a “2” where you have to use a synonym feels a bit misleading - surely that’s harder than a hidden word which is often a 2? I excluded all synonyms initially for this reason 🤦. Is the scoring logic available to see somewhere?
I think it must come from Liam and Angas' perception but, I agree, the 2 par clues stump me far more than the 3 par ones! 😫 Can't be on their wavelength . . .yet! 😂
Hey! Recently the share options changed on the website on Mac and instead of copying to clipboard, it gives me other share options which don't include copying to clipboard. Is it possible to get this feature back? Thanks!
I got the g part but then got stuck trying to think of a 4 letter word for ready to "eat" the g as in put in the centre of that word. I think I've gone from not spotting word play to seeing it even when its not there 😅
Am I the only one who took “vegan’s belly” as the “ega” from vegan, then realised that those three letters are all in the word “argue”, which is a word for “beef”, and never manage to move on from that incorrect answer?
I got the belly hint, although at first I tried ega. Ripe meaning ready to eat was a stretch, and beef as a synonym for gripe idk my vocabulary isn't big enough to understand that. I did understand that beef didn't mean meat but fight
I guess "argue" first" but realized the A and E should be switched. Then I got the G but somehow saw "ready" and "to eat" as separate clues instead of one whole clue. It's been a thing recently, where I'm trying to see the clues in a new way, but can't unsee the original way I'm seeing the clues. Slowly getting there 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
So, in this clue, the punctuation DID matter! Oh dear . . .the belly of 'vegan' not 'vegans', which threw me right off. Still learning the setter's tricks! 😂 Got it after a thinking break and coming back to it.
Another one guessed first time without wordplay purely by trying a synonym (I knew it wouldn't be meat related). Feels like cheating when you get them this way.
Another horror show. Took 3 letters and still couldn't see how ega fitted the clue. Went all around beef - argue, grate, etc, to no avail. Depressing. Annoying. Back for more tomorrow!
That's the point of cryptics, though: to figure out which definition gives you the answer. In this case, meat doesn't work, brawny doesn't work, but dispute does. Just need to use a bit of lateral thinking.
@@nicolaplays1134 oh im completely aware, it was more about what he said in the video, he purely said just one meaning instead of actually giving a full comment on it hence i posted it, i fully agree and understand that was the only reason i said it though
I've got beef with this clue. For me "vegan's" belly is not 'g' as vegan's is a 6 letter word. "Vegan belly ready to eat..." Would have been cleaner. (I got it regardless)
Yeah, that’s totally it. If it said “Monkey’s tail”, it would, IMO, be way more fair to take the letter “y” than “s”. “S” would actually be unfair, I reckon.
@@Alex_Meadows I'd totally agree, if this was simply a standard scentance. But this is a cryptic clue where every letter counts and you read between the lines, normal grammatical rules don't apply by definition.
4 days a week I feel like the smartest man alive when I play these. The other days I feel like the dumbest. Today was a dumb day.
That was me two days ago with Impulse. (I'm the smartest man alive today)
I tried taking "ega" unsuccessfully - perhaps subconsciously thinking about my own large belly!
I tried "ega" for like 5 minutes before going the synonym route
Same here. I thought belly was meaning 'interior', as in 'without exteriors, si I worked with vegan minus the first and last letter
same 😭
Got the 'g' straight away. Took a while of thinking to get the 'ripe' because I just got stuck with 'Hot to go' song stuck in my head for 'Ready to eat' 😅
Chappel Roan strikes again!
Needed to look at synonyms for beef to get this one .
Same
Never unsure if this counts as cheating
@@ruffswarmi7396 so you’re sure!
@@ruffswarmi7396it does… but I don’t think I would have gotten gripe for beef

I got the G right away and wanted to put it in center. Angus! Great! But removing the G left me with a word that I couldn’t make work…
This demonstrates also how the meaning of the overall sentence is generally not important, the answer is the sum of parts. Finding the parts is half the challenge! 😅
I enjoy seeing the ingenuity in these cryptics.
I was expecting it to be something with “ega” since that is vegan’s belly.
I was thinking on the lines of fight only, but the word gripe is something I've rarely heard so it doesn't come to mind. Got the belly clue but I thought ready to eat was another wordplay, like we had to do something with it... Finally looked up the synonyms of beef and got the answer
I got this one in 30 seconds. That is rare.😊
Nice pun about beef, Well Done...

Saaame, and also stuck on beef as the meat... a bad day overall

G from vegan gave me a start for beef synonyms. I knew the ‘non-meat’ definition of beef so worked on g synonyms- never used the “ready to eat “part.
Lucked out on this one (to get to par). I was trying to figure out what "belly" referred to - mostly thinking of n as the belly. Turns out I attached myself to the wrong letter and missed out on the wordplay.

I understood where the word play was but couldn’t thing of synonyms for Beef OR Ready to eat. Needed 2 hints and a synonym generator.
Wishing you a messy hard hyped pun!🎉 (5,7)
Indeed, congratulations to Minute Cryptic on the milstone!
Failed hard on this in the morning. Came back to it a few hours later and got it in ten seconds flat.
Great clue!
Didn't get the g from middle of vegan, but got tripe from beef belly and then figured gripe as alternative meaning of beef
So I figured beef is an argument, but the world play totally stumped me today. Did not think that belly would just be one letter... Ah well.
Got it immediately !
And here I thought it was a play on the word tripe
would never have thought of gripe as a substitute for beef even tho i knew it could be the “don’t get along/something against them” definition and not the cow definition. knew to take the g from vegan but couldn’t get ripe from ready to eat cause i went the instant / to put another word for ready with the g

I'm still quite new at this, but wouldn't there be some kind of anagram indicator if you change the order of letters?
@@thecayzers Yep. And I was trying to find it for quite a long time. I’m pretty new to this too 😂

I was stuck on "ega" for way too long before even considering the possibility that the middle might just be G 💀😭
As soon as I figured it out, it made sense but up until the last letter is was like no he’s got it wrong…
I guess "argue" first" but realized the A and E should be switched.
Then I got the G but somehow saw "ready" and "to eat" as separate clues instead of one whole clue.

You've got BAEF with them!
I was bang on with definition, but could not think of a 5 letter word except "issue". Only with a second letter (g) did it click -_-
3 over par today.
Had the G, but just had no idea about ripe
I got that beef was to mean argue. And I got the 'g' from vegan. Didn't take long from that point. Nice one.
I got the G then "tripe" popped into my head after seeing beef and belly. Then i realised gripe was probably the answer
Struggled with this, until I thought of synonyms for ready, with the middle of vegan!
I went for Tripe, a cow's stomach that you can eat! Cows are vegan I guess...
Got this one fairly quickly.
There’s absolutely NO WAY I was busy on this one and forgot to actually finish it before 12 am losing my streak AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Only got the G never even thought about beef to have a problem with. Dumbest day today
Same, got the G and then stuck on finding g words for the food beef
Absolutely no idea on this one. Ah well, still learning.
Yay got it !
I came up with ‘vegans belly’ to get ‘egan’. Then I took ‘r’ as short for for ‘ready’ and ‘to eat’ as an anagram indicator (chew it) for ‘anger’
When I saw the word “eat beef”. I know beef is not cuisine beef but complaint beef
Is it cheating to use a thesaurus? Looking up synonyms, etc?
Over par on today’s clue as a vegan. I’ve failed my people.
Guessed it was a word for argument, but I got no further. Tried to fit EGA instead of just G.
Failed.
This one totally p*ssed me off. Belly of Vegans is GA! 😢😢😢
I feel duped 😂
But it's not "vegans" (plural) - it's a possessive. Vegan's belly = belly of "vegan", which is "g" (or could also be "ega").
Another one guessed first time without wordplay purely by trying a synonym (I knew it wouldn't be meat related). Feels like cheating when you get them this way.
Is looking up synonyms not fair? Torn on this.
Aww completely failed today 😂
Didn't get this at all.

Hmmm...coment
Rubbish today !
Vegans belly was easy - G
Ready to eat - RIPE
Feel like beef meaning gripe is slang rather than an actual definition
If it's in the dictionary, it's fair game!
i mean.... beef can also mean to be bulky/brawny not just a dispute
That's the point of cryptics, though: to figure out which definition gives you the answer. In this case, meat doesn't work, brawny doesn't work, but dispute does. Just need to use a bit of lateral thinking.

I'd argue that "The belly of the word vegan" can legitimately be shortened to "vegan's belly".

Not at all for this one. Didn't get the other meaning of beef. Didn't understand belly as middle. In short it just didn't make sense
